Antibiofilm activity of a-mangostin extracted from Garcinia mangostana L. against Staphylococcus aureus

Objective: To isolate a-mangostin(AMG) from the peels of mangosteen(Garcinia mangostana L.), grown in Vietnam, and to investigate antibiofilm activity of this compound against three Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) strains, one of which was methicillin-resistant S. aureus(MRSA) and the other two strains were methicillinsensitive S. aureus(MSSA).Methods: AMG in n-hexane fraction was isolated on a silica gel column and chemically analyzed by HPLC and NMR. The antibiofilm activity of this compound was investigated by using a 96-well plate model for the formation of biofilms. Biofilm biomass was quantified using crystal violet. The viability of cells was observed under confocal microscopy using LIVE/DEAD Bac Light stains. Biofilm composition was determined using specific chemical and enzyme tests for polysaccharide, protein and DNA. Membranedamaging activity was assayed by measuring the hemolysis of human red blood cells in presence of ***: The results indicated that the isolated AMG, with a purity that exceeded 98%,had minimal inhibitory concentrations in the range of 4.6–9.2 mmol/L for the three strains tested. Interestingly, the MSSA strains were more sensitive to AMG than the MRSA strain. Minimal bactericidal concentrations were 2-fold higher than the minimal inhibitory concentration values for the three strains, indicating that AMG was a bactericidal compound. AMG also prevented biofilm formation effectively, albeit that again the MRSA strain was the most resistant. Interestingly, biofilms of the MRSA strain contained protein as a main component of the extracellular matrix, whereas this was polysaccharide in the MSSA strains. This might relate to the resistance of the MRSA 252 strain to *** using human red blood cells indicated that AMG caused significant membrane damage with 50% of cell lysis occurred at concentration of about 36 mmol/***: Our results provide evidence that the isolated AMG has inhibitory activity against biofilm formation

The Process of Immobilization of ZnO Nanorods Surface with Galactose Oxidase

ZnO nanorods, with the c-axis orientation used for transparent conductors, solar cells, sensors especially the functionalized ZnO nanorods with some kinds of enzymes have been used for biosensor. In this work, we describe the process immobilization of galactose oxidase on ZnO nanorods surface with glutaraldehyde as a cross-linker molecule to make the working electrode in electrochemical biosensor. ZnO nanorods were grown on FTO （Fluorine-doped tin oxide） substrate by solution method at low temperature. The crystalline phase and orientation of ZnO nanorods were identified using X-ray diffraction. The efficiency of the immobilization was calculated by Braford method showed that about 36% enzyme content was immobilized on ZnO nanorods surface. The working electrode based on the immobilized ZnO nanorods was tested in galactose solution by CV （cyclic voltammetry） method indicated the value of current intensity is about 0.14 μA. These results clearly demonstrate the potential of galactose sensor based on ZnO nanorod.

Sustainable marketing,often known as green marketing,has grown in popularity over the last two *** is currently putting pressure to encourage firms to become environmentally aware in multiple aspects like human and financial utilization,advertisement,and product *** types of companies are including many environmental campaigns into their own products to take advantage of the *** many scholars have addressed the relevance of green marketing as well as theory development,this study is unique in that it examines both techniques in a fuzzy *** integrated Fuzzy Multicriteria Decision Making Model(MCDM)of the analytical hierarchy process(AHP)and a Portuguese-acronymous MCDM method(TODIM)are used to select the best marketing strategy from five alternatives:(i)Green Design,(ii)Green Positioning,(iii)Green Pricing,(v)Green Packaging,and(iv)Green *** on criteria such as the scale of the green market,price parity,and the commitment of top *** for evaluating green marketing strategies was established in the study as contributions for decisionmakers in this field under unclarified *** research also a useful guideline for ranking alternatives in others industry.

A new species of the genus Leptolalax (Anura： Megophryidae) from southern Vietnam

We describe a new species of megophryid frog from Phu Yen Province in southern Vietnam. Leptolalax macrops sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following morphological attributes：（1） body size medium （SVL 28.0-29.3 mm in three adult males, 30.3 mm in single adult female）; （2） supra-axillary glands present, creamy white; ventrolateral glands indistinct; （3） tympanum externally distinct; （4） dorsal skin roughly granular with larger tubercles, dermal ridges on dorsum absent; （5） rudimentary webbing present between fingers I-II and I1-111; rudimentary webbing between all toes; fingers and toes without dermal fringes; （6） in life ventral surface greyish-violet with white speckling; （7） supratympanic fold distinct, dark brown in life; （8） iris bicolored, typically golden in upper half, fading to golden green in lower half; （9） tibia short （TbL/SVL 0.44-0.45 in males）; and （10） eyes large and protuberant （ED/SVL 0.15-0.16 in males） From all congeners for which comparable sequences are available, the new species differs markedly in the 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene sequence （P-distance〉5.7%）. The new species is currently known only from montane evergreen tropical forests of Song Hinh District, Phu Yen Province, and M＇Drak District of Dak Lak Province at elevations of 470-630 m a.s.l.. We suggest the new species should be considered as Data Deficient following the IUCN＇s Red List categories. We also report a previously unknownLeptolalax mtDNA lineage from an evergreen tropica forest in the Hoa Thinh District of Phu Yen Province which may also represent an undescribed species.

Determination of fuel burnup distribution of a research reactor based on measurements at subcritical conditions

This paper presents the determination of the fuel burnup distribution of the Dalat nuclear research reactor(DNRR) using a method of measurements at subcritical conditions. The method is based on the assumption of linear dependence of the reactivity on the burnup of fuel bundles and the measurements at subcritical *** measurements were taken for seven selected fuel bundles in two different measuring sequences. The measured burnup values have also been compared with the calculations for verifying the method and the measurement procedure. The results obtained with the three detectors have a good agreement with each other with a discrepancy less than 1.0%. The errors of the measured burnup values are within 6%. Comparison between the calculated and measured burnup values shows that the discrepancy of the C/E ratio is within 9% compared to unity. The results indicate that the method of measurements at subcritical conditions could be well applied to determine the relative burnup distribution of the DNRR.

An advection fog event response to future climate forcing in the 2030s-2080s:a case study for Shanghai

Fog may continue to inhibit industry in the ***,we focused on a specific advection fog event in Shanghai,China,and applied a pseudo global warming method to examine advection fog under the RCP8.5 highemission *** method involved downscaling the future atmospheric conditions over the ensemble average of 19 global climate models from the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP5).We used the Weather Research and Forecasting Model coupled with a single-layer urban canopy model(WRF‒UCM)to run four sensitivity experiments and examined the advection fog and its relationship to changes in meteorological *** results showed that:1)The advection fog event tended to remain in Shanghai despite global warming;2)advection fog will not change greatly in the future;however,the onset and dissipation times will change slightly;3)relative humidity(RH)locally increases prior to the onset of the advection fog,and decreases at the dissipating stage,despite the current and future experiments having the same RH initial and boundary conditions;4)a small increase in surface air temperature and an increase in RH contribute to the early advection fog onset,and vice *** facilitates the early onset and dissipation of advection fog.

Design of Retarded Fractional Delay Differential Systems Using the Method of Inequalities

Methods based on numerical optimization are useful and effective in the design of control systems. This paper describes the design of retarded fractional delay differential systems （RFDDSs） by the method of inequalities, in which the design problem is formulated so that it is suitable for solution by numerical methods. Zakian＇s original formulation, which was first proposed in connection with rational systems, is extended to the case of RFDDSs. In making the use of this formulation possible for RFDDSs, the associated stability problems are resolved by using the stability test and the numerical algorithm for computing the abscissa of stability recently developed by the authors. During the design process, the time responses are obtained by a known method for the numerical inversion of Laplace transforms. Two numerical examples are given, where fractional controllers are designed for a time-delay and a heat-conduction plants.
