Introduction: Helicoba.ter pylori infection is a.rea. hea.th problem worldwide. It is the most common chronic ba.teria. infection in the world, a.d is pa.ticula.ly preva.ent in developing countries. Objective: To determine the frequency of Helicoba.ter pylori infection a.d to study the epidemiologica., clinica. a.d endoscopic cha.a.teristics a.socia.ed with this infection in Bra.za.ille. Pa.ients a.d Methods: This wa. a.descriptive cross-sectiona. study conducted from Ja.ua.y to November 2020, i.e. 11 months. This work focused on 100 symptoma.ic pa.ients over 18 yea.s old referred for upper GI endoscopy. Ga.tric biopsies for biologica. study by urea.e test a.d molecula. study by rea. time PCR technique were ta.en. Results: With a.mea. a.e of 46.32 ± 15.20 yea.s, the frequency of Hp infection wa. 91%, with a.fema.e predomina.ce of 53%. The sex ra.io wa. 0.92. The a.era.e a.e wa. 46.32 ± 15.20 yea.s. Ca.ria.e of the infection wa. more importa.t in households with more tha. 3 persons, in pa.ients consuming public ta. wa.er a.d in those using both types of sa.ita.y fa.ilities. Endoscopy wa. indica.ed for epiga.tra.gia.in 93.1% of ca.es. a.out 56.14% of the infected pa.ients ha. norma. mucosa.versus 12.28% with ulcera.ed lesions a.d 22.81% with ga.tritis. Conclusion: The preva.ence of Helicoba.ter pylori infection is significa.t in Congo, justifying ea.ly detection in order to improve ma.a.ement.

Objective: Describe the epidemiologica. a.d pa.a.linica. a.pects of HP infection in hepa.itis B virus ca.riers. Popula.ion a.d Method: This wa. a.descriptive cross-sectiona. study running from Ja.ua.y 1 to a.gust 30, 2019, a.period of 8 months. It took pla.e in the Hospita. Centers of the two ma.or cities of Congo (Bra.za.ille a.d Pointe-Noire). The ta.get popula.ion of our study consists of pa.ients ca.rying HBV under a.tivira. trea.ment or not. Pa.ients a.ed a. lea.t 18 yea.s a.d consenting with a.biologica. a.d morphologica. a.sessment were included. We did not include in our study pa.ients ta.ing or ha.ing ta.en a.tibiotics a.d/or PPIs less tha. 4 weeks a.o. We excluded a.l pa.ients who did not deposit fresh stools a.d those in whom stool extra.tion could not be done ma.ua.ly. The va.ia.les studied covered sociodemogra.hic, clinica. a.d pa.a.linica. a.pects. Da.a.entry wa. done using Excel 8.0 softwa.e. Sta.istica. a.a.ysis wa. ca.ried out with SPSS 20.0 softwa.e. Results: During our study, we included 169 pa.ients. The frequency of HPa. in the stools of HBV ca.riers in our study popula.ion wa. 63.9% (n = 109). Ma.e pa.ients represented 69% (n = 75) a.d fema.e pa.ients represented 31% (n = 34). The a.era.e a.e of the pa.ients is 43.92 ± 13.51 yea.s with extremes of 18 yea.s a.d 80 yea.s. Concerning profession, unemployed pa.ients a.d those working in the priva.e sector were the most represented in respectively 28.4% (n = 31) a.d 22.9% (n = 25) without sta.istica. link. Households comprising between 4 - 10 people a.d the use of public la.rines were the risk fa.tors most represented in respectively 69% (n = 75) a.d 88% (n = 96) without sta.istica. link. Clinica.ly, hepa.omega.y a.d signs of porta. hypertension were most represented in 53% (n = 58) a.d 47% (n = 51). Biologica.ly, HBV DNa.wa. detecta.le in 60.5% of ca.es (n = 66).

Ma.eria.s a.d Methods: This wa. a.cross-sectiona. study, collecting prospective da.a. which wa. ca.ried out from July 1 to September 30, 2018 in the ga.troenterology depa.tment of CHUB (University Hospita. of Bra.za.ille). Eligible for the study were a.l pa.ients who consulted or were followed in the wa.d for HBV infection during the study period. a.l pa.ients were a.ked a.out their knowledge, a.titudes a.d pra.tices rega.ding vira. hepa.itis B. a.ter obta.ning informed consent, we a.ked pa.ients a.out knowledge, a.titudes a.d pra.tices towa.ds the hepa.itis B virus. The da.a.wa. collected on a.pre-esta.lished survey sheet respecting a.onymity a.d confidentia.ity. CSPro 7 softwa.e a.d SPSS 17 softwa.e were used for da.a.entry a.d a.a.ysis. Chi-squa.e wa. used to compa.e the percenta.es. These were expressed with their 95% confidence interva.s [95% CI]. a.va.ue of p 0.005 wa. considered significa.t. Results: Forty-two pa.ients were included in the study, these were 66.7% (n = 28) men a.d 33.3% (n = 14) women. The a.era.e a.e wa. 38.76 ± 10.9 yea.s. 45.2% of them (n = 19) were single a.d 59.5% (n = 25) ha. the next highest level of educa.ion. Thirty-nine pa.ients ha. no knowledge of the source of their conta.ina.ion;the sexua. route wa. the most cited (61.9%). a.cohol consumption wa. ra.ed ba.ly by 38 pa.ients (90.5%);of these 22 (52.4%) thought it worsened the disea.e. The a.m of our study wa. to use a.biosurfa.ta.t produced by Ba.illus a.d La.toba.illus isola.es a. a. a.tiseptic in the formula.ion of loca. soa.. a.tota. of 60 isola.es were cha.a.terized by microbiologica. techniques (30 Ba.illus a.d 30 La.toba.illus) a.d the a.ility to produce biosurfa.ta.ts wa. demonstra.ed by a.hydroca.bon emulsifica.ion index (E24). The emulsifica.ion indexes (E24) va.ied from 9% to 100% for Ba.illus a.d from 33% to 100% for La.toba.illus a. well. The a.ta.onistic a.sa. showed tha. biosurfa.ta.ts were a.le to inhibit the forma.ion of biofilms a.d growth of pa.hogens such a. Escherichia.coli, Pseudomona. a.ruginosa. Sta.hylococcus a.reus, Ba.illus cereus, Sa.monella.typhirium, Shigella.boydii a.d Proteus mira.ilis. The biosurfa.ta.t consortium (BioC) from Ba.illus consortium a.d from La.toba.illus wa. a.le to inhibit biofilm forma.ion a.d the pa.hogens growth. The BioC wa. sta.le to a.ka.ine pH a.d the tempera.ures sta.ility of Biosurfa.ta.t wa. ra.ging from 50°C to 90°C. Plummer-Vinson syndrome (PVS) is a.ra.e condition cha.a.terized by cla.sica. tria.;high dyspha.ia. iron-deficiency a.emia.a.d oesopha.ea. ring forma.ion. We report a.ca.e of PVS in a.62-yea.-old pa.ient a.mitted to the depa.tment of ga.troenterology a.d interna. medicine for high dyspha.ia. The clinica. exa.ina.ion showed a.emic syndrome, genera. impa.rment a.d polya.thritis. Biologica. exa.ina.ions concluded to iron deficiency a.emia. The endoscopy ha. observed a.circula. ring immedia.ely a.ove Killia.’s mouth ruptured during the exa.ina.ion. The pa.ient wa. trea.ed with iron a.d proton pump inhibitors. The oesopha.ea. symptoma.ology regressed completely from the second da. of trea.ment.

The involvement of general practitioners in the early detection of viral hepatitis B and C must be paramount. The objectives of this work were to assess GPs’ knowledge, attitude and practice with regard to screening for viral hepatitis B and C. We carried out a cross-sectional analytical study among GPs recruited by simple random sampling from the list of GPs in the city of Brazzaville. The judgement criteria were knowledge and practice of screening for viral hepatitis B and C, assessed according to a Likert scale divided into 3 categories: very good, good and bad. One hundred and twenty-one general practitioners were included, including 48 women and 73 men, with a sex ratio of 1.52;the average age was 33 years;52.89% of them worked in the private sector with an average period of activity of 4 years. The majority of the doctors had a good knowledge (69.42%) and a bad practice (56.20%) of screening for viral hepatitis B and C. The duration of activity was the factor linked to knowledge of viral hepatitis B and C (p = 0.006) while age was the factor linked to the practice of screening for viral hepatitis B and C (p = 0.0366). In conclusion, in Brazzaville, general practitioners’ knowledge of screening for viral hepatitis B and C is good in general, but the practices are poor and require targeted in-service training.

Ba.kground: Hepa.itis C virus (HCV) is a.public hea.th problem a.d is highly endemic in Sub-Sa.a.a. a.rica. This study wa. ca.ried out to determine the preva.ence a.d potentia. risk fa.tors of hepa.itis C virus in pregna.t women. Methods: This wa. a.cross-sectiona. study involving pregna.t women who a.tended a. seven a.tena.a. clinics in Pointe Noire, from June to November 2018. Structured questionna.res were used to obta.n pa.ticipa.ts da.a. Sa.ples were screened for HCV infection by using 4th ELISa.methods a.d da.a.a.a.ysis wa. done by Epi-info version 7.0 sta.istica. softwa.e. Results: a.tota. of 150 pregna.t women were included, out of which 11 (7.3%) were positive for HCV. The high proportion of HCV wa. found in a.e group 25 - 34 yea.s (45.4%), educa.ed (81.1%), professiona. (36.4%) a.d 54.6% were in second trimester gesta.iona. sta.e. Moreover, 54.6% of HCV positive pa.ients ha. sca.ifica.ion a.d 45.5% ha. a.history of surgery. There wa. not a.sta.istica.ly significa.t a.socia.ion between demogra.hics cha.a.teristics, risks fa.tors a.d HCV seropositivity (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study showed a.high preva.ence of HCV infection a.d confirmed tha. this infection is a.public hea.th problem in pregna.t women in Pointe Noire.

Objective: To determine the pla.e of two identifica.ion tests for Helicoba.ter pylori infection a.a.la.le in Congo. Ma.eria.s a.d Methods: This wa. a.compa.a.ive study ca.ried out in two digestive endoscopy centers in Bra.za.ille from 1 Ja.ua.y to 31 Ma. 2018. Symptoma.ic pa.ients referred for upper ga.trointestina. endoscopy were included systema.ica.ly. The frequency of infection wa. determined from two identifica.ion tests, na.ely the ra.id urea.e test in ga.tric biopsies a.d the detection of a.tigen (a.) for the germ in the stool. The criterion for judging the presence of the germ in ea.h pa.ient wa. the positivity of a. lea.t one of the two tests. The McNEMa. X2 test (p a. used for the compa.ison of a.era.es. Results: During the study period, 137 consenting pa.ients were included, including 62 men a.d 75 women. The overa.l incidence of Helicoba.ter pylori (Hp) infection wa. 79.6% (109/28). Of the 137 pa.ients, 18 were urea.e positive only;6 were looking for Hp a. in the stool, a.d 85 were in the two tests. The frequency of infection wa. 75.2% (103/137) with the ra.id urea.e test a.d 66.4% (91/137) with the Hp a. test in stool. The ra.id urea.e test proved more relia.le in the dia.nosis of Helicoba.ter pylori infection tha. the stool a.tigen test.

Introduction: pancreatic cancer a poor prognosis disease for which there is no screening. Its association with diabetes is not uncommon and may influence the evolutionary profile. The aim of this study was to describe the profile of diabetic patients who could benefit from pancreatic cancer screening. Methods: we conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study in the gastroenterology department of the University Hospital of Brazzaville, from January 2010 to December 2019. Epidemiological variables (age, sex, alcoholism, smoking), tumor variables (symptoms, site, size, density, extension) and time of occurrence of both entities were analyzed using Epi info software. Results: A total of 35 patients were hospitalized for pancreatic cancer, of whom 17 were men and 15 women, for a sex ratio of 1.21. The mean age of the patients was 60.3 ± 13 years. Fifteen patients (43.75%) were diabetic, all classified as type 2. Among them, the diagnosis of diabetes of 10 patients (66.7%) preceded pancreatic cancer diagnosis and delay between the two pathologies was on average 3.4 years ± 5.3 months. Diabetes was observed in 11 patients older than 60 years. The difference was significant (OR = 4.8;95% CI [1.1a.> - 22.8];p = 0.0226). The other epidemiological variables studied were not related to the two pathologies.
