h.man fallopian tubes (FTs) play.important roles in th. wh.le reproductive process. FTs are th. site for th. final maturation of gametes, fertilization, transport of preimplantation embry.s, and early.embry.nic development before entering th. uterus. All th.se functions are critical in th. establish.ent of a successful pregnancy. Wh.n th. embry. is in transit th.ough.th. FT, th. FT microenvironment ch.nges th.ough.endocrine, paracrine, autocrine, and juxtacrine mech.nisms wh.ch.involve various h.rmones and bioactive substances mainly.from th. neigh.oring cells. Th.refore, th. interactions between th. embry. and th. FT may.be th. earliest embry.-maternal communications th.t are essential for th. establish.ent of pregnancy. Th.s review critically.discusses th. evidence of various h.rmonal and bioactive mediated control of th. microenvironment in th. FTs during th. earliest embry.-maternal communications. Moreover, we h.gh.igh. existing gaps in th. knowledge and th. importance of exploring more of th. ph.siology.of FTs wh.ch.will h.ld th. key.to producing h.gh.quality.embry.s for patients seekingin vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.
