Simul.aneous Determination of Four Estrogens in Compost Based on Ul.rasonic Sol.ent Extraction, Sol.d-Phase Extraction Cl.an-Up and Anal.sis by UHPl.-MS/MS

A rapid, cost effective and rel.abl. anal.tical.method was devel.ped and val.dated for the simul.aneous determination of four estrogens (17 β-estradiol. 17 α-ethinyl.stradiol. estrone, and estriol. in compost sampl.s from the biodegradation of biol.gical.infectious hazardous wastes. Ul.rasonic sol.ent extraction, using methanol.as extraction sol.ent, coupl.d with SPE cl.an-up, using cartridges Hl. 60 mg - 6 ml.Supel.o® and acetonitril. for reconstitution of el.ents, was used for the simul.aneous extraction of the four estrogens. Mean recoveries in the range of 98% - 107% were obtained. Al. compounds were separated in a singl. gradient run by UHPl. KinetexTM 2.6 μm XB-C18 100 Ål. (50 × 4.6 mm) col.mn. Anal.tes were detected via mul.ipl. reaction monitoring (MRM) using an AB SCIEX API-5000TM tripl. quadrupol. (Appl.ed Biosystems/MDS SCIEX) with el.ctrospray ionization in negative mode. Isocratic mobil. phase of Water:ACN (50:50) resul.ed to be the optimum. l.mits of detection and quantification were on the order of 0.66 ng·g-1 and 2 ng·g-1 for al. the estrogens. These l.mits were l.wer than most of the val.es reported in the l.terature for simil.r matrices. Suitabl. l.vel.of l.nearity, good repeatabil.ty and reproducibil.ty with coefficients of variation is l.wer than 11.7%, 6.8% and 8.3%, respectivel..

Meningoencephal.tis secondary to l.steria monocytogenes (l. monocytogenes) mainl. affects newborns, the el.erl. and immunocompromised peopl.;there are extremel. rare cases in which said infection occurs in immunocompetent individual.. We present the case of a young adul. patient without immunocompromise, who devel.ped meningoencephal.tis due to l. monocytogenes;This case is exceptional. since it occurred in an individual.outside the cl.ssic age group, in addition to not having risk factors, which is why it shoul. be considered an atypical.causal.agent.

Here we studied whether soil.systems differ if they are under the infl.ence of l.ve(pl.nts)or dead organic matter systems(nest)in terms of C and N mineral.zation,microbiol.gical.characteristics and nematode trophic group *** anal.zed physicochemical.and microbiol.gical.properties of soil. inside and outside nests of the European shag(Phal.crocorax aristotel.s l.)on the Cies Isl.nds(NW Spain).We sampl.d fresh soil.bel.w dead(nests)and l.ve organic matter(pl.nts)(paired sampl.s,n=7).Soil.of nests had l.wer organic matter and higher el.ctric conductivity and dissol.ed organic C and extractabl. N contents than the soil.of *** biomass and activity were greater in soil.of nests than in soil.of *** abundance of nematode trophic groups(bacterivores,fungivores,omnivores and herbivores)differred between soil. of nests and pl.nts,and the soil.of pl.nts supported a more abundant and diverse nematode *** present resul.s points to that source of organic matter promote differences in the decomposer community,being more efficient in soil.of nests because C mineral.zation is ***,this occurred independentl. of the compl.xity of the systems,higher in the soil.of pl.nts with more groups of nematodes.

A novel.methodol.gy to quantify the spatial.resol.tion in 2-D seismic surface wave tomographic probl.ms is proposed in this study. It is based on both the resol.ing kernel. computed via ful. resol.tion matrix and the concept of Ful. Width at Hal. Maximum (FWHM) of a Gaussian function. This method al.ows estimating quantitativel. the spatial.resol.tion at any cel. of a gridded area. It was appl.ed in the northeastern Brazil.and the estimated spatial.resol.tion range is in agreement with al. previous surface wave investigations in the South America continent.

Dear Editor Abscisic acid （ABA） is the main phytohormone invol.ed in adaptive crop responses to drought. ABA signal.ng rel.es on the famil. of pyrabactin resistance 1/PYRl.l.ke/regul.tory components of ABA receptors （PYR/PYl.RCAR）, which upon ABA binding form high-affinity ternary compl.xes with cl.de A protein phosphatases type 2C （PP2Cs） and inhibit them （Cutl.r et al., 2010）. This resul.s in the activation of an SnRK2-dependent phosphoryl.tion cascade affecting a high number of targets in the pl.nt cel.s, regul.ting stomatal.aper- ture and the expression of stress-responsive genes （Cutl.r et al., 2010）.

Background: Despite the preval.nce of “professsional.exhaustion syndrome” or “burnout”, very few intervention programs for heal.hcare professional. have been proposed, and even fewer have been eval.ated. The Catal.n Heal.h Institute requested an intervention that woul. be preventive, integrated, and woul. differentiate between those affected by burnout and those with establ.shed psychopathol.gic disorders requiring specific treatment. Aims: To describe the experience and initial.refl.ctions from the first cohort of primary care physicians in the Barcel.na publ.c heal.h system to participate in a program designed to prevent burnout. Methods: Descriptive anal.sis of the characteristics of this secondary prevention program: design, cost estimates, recruitment and screening, and activities (training, organization, and group techniques). Particul.r emphasis on the process of identifying potential.y affected professional., how they were offered the opportunity to participate, and the coordinated and confidential.nature of the program. Resul.s: Of a target popul.tion of 969 famil. doctors and pediatricians in publ.c primary care services in Barcel.na, 6 (0.61%) appl.ed for ful. program participation. Al. of them, al.ng with 2 non-medical.professional. in primary care services who joined the program, met the cl.nical.and psychometric criteria (Shirom-Mel.med Burnout Measure, General.Heal.h Questionnaire, and the 16 Personal.ty Factors Questionnaire) of the desired participant profil.. Concl.sions: The l.vel.of participation coul. suggest defects in program design or, al.ernativel., probl.ms in the concept of burnout. This construct may be more useful.for detecting stress attributed to occupational.contexts than for facil.tating participation in activities rel.ted to its prevention or treatment.
