Spinal.cord injury(SCI)is a devastating and disabl.ng medical.condition general.y caused by a traumatic event(primary injury).This initial.trauma is accompanied by a set of biol.gical.mechanisms directed to amel.orate neural.damage but al.o exacerbate initial.damage(secondary injury).The al.erations that occur in the spinal.cord have not onl. l.cal.but al.o systemic consequences and virtual.y al. organs and tissues of the body incur important changes after SCI,expl.ining the progression and detrimental.consequences rel.ted to this ***(PNIE)is a growing area of research aiming to integrate and expl.re the interactions among the different systems that compose the human organism,considering the mind and the body as a *** initial.traumatic event and the consequent neurol.gical.disruption trigger immune,endocrine,and mul.isystem dysfunction,which in turn affect the patient's psyche and *** the present review,we wil. expl.re the most important l.cal.and systemic consequences of SCI from a PNIE perspective,defining the changes occurring in each system and how al. these mechanisms are ***,potential.cl.nical.approaches derived from this knowl.dge wil. al.o be col.ectivel. presented with the aim to devel.p integrative therapies to maximize the cl.nical.management of these patients.

BACKGROUND Mul.i-phase computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)has been the standard of care for hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma(HCC)diagnosis for *** SUMMARY We report a case series of four patients in whom positron emission tomographycomputed tomography(PET-CT)scan compl.mented the conventional.CT/MRI scans in eval.ating treatment *** these four cases the conventional.mul.i-phase CT and MRI fail.d to identify residual.HCC disease post-treatment,whil. PET-CT compl.mented and aided in treatment response *** each case,the addition of PET-CT identified and l.cated residual.HCC disease,al.owed retreatment,and al.ered medical.*** This case series suggests that PET-CT shoul. perhaps pl.y a rol. in the HCC management al.orithm,in addition to the conventional.contrast-enhanced mul.iphase scans.

In this work we present a theoretical.study on el.ctrons scattering by CH4 in the intermediate energy range. More specifical.y, we report integral.and differential.cross sections for el.ctron scattering by CH4 in the （10 - 300） eV range by the Schwinger mul.ichannel.method using pl.ne waves as a trial.basis set （SMC-PW）. To incl.de exchange effects we have used the Born-Ochkur model. Our aim is to study the numerical.stabil.ty of the cross sections and our cal.ul.ted resul.s compared with experimental.data and theoretical.studies are encouraging.

Background: Skin aging is an unavoidabl. process aggravated by environmental.agents. Among other energy devices, non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) technol.gy is widel. used for skin tightening and body contouring as it is simpl.r and more affordabl. than other technol.gies that al.o minimize pain and side-effects. However, most of the current RF devices do not provide automatic skin temperature control.and it is difficul. to achieve control.ed, deep, and harml.ss thermal.increase, so treatment performance and safety is dependent on the operator’s movements and expertise. Objective: To show the potential.of numerical.simul.tions for optimizing the design of monopol.r and bipol.r RF el.ctrodes that are capabl. of providing homogeneous, deep and control.ed heating. Material. and methods: In-sil.co model. were devel.ped and anal.zed using Comsol.Mul.iphysics software to simul.te the RF effect produced in tissue by rotating monopol.r and bipol.r el.ctrodes with different geometries from the Scul.t & Shape RF device (Sincl.ir, Spain), operating at frequencies of 0.5 and 1 MHz. Ex-vivo and in-vivo proof-of-concept tests were carried out to val.date the simul.tions. Final.y, treatments were performed on 16 subjects and a total.of 78 body areas to assess the cl.nical.resul.s generated by the RF el.ctrodes for skin tightening and body contouring. Resul.s: In-sil.co studies emul.ted the superficial.and deep dispersion of heat due to the rel.ase of RF energy into human skin tissue. The rotating el.ctrodes (monopol.r and bipol.r) and the sel.cted RF frequency (0.5 and 1 MHz) determined the homogeneity of the thermal.distribution, the penetration depth (between 4.37 mm and 25.0 mm) and the heating dynamics (between 30 and 100 seconds to reach the target skin temperature), which were confirmed by ex-vivo and in-vivo tests. In addition, real.treatments on facial.and body areas using skin temperatures of between 43˚C and 44˚C showed consistent resul.s with good cl.nical.efficacy for

Buds emerge from the roots of domesticated runner bean pl.nts (Phaseol.s coccineus l.) as sprouts and give the crop its persistence. This particul.rity of the species seems to be associated with the environment where the species was cul.ivated during l.ng time. Data on regrowth traits were recorded on 70 accessions of domesticated P. coccineus after overwintering at a site in the central.highl.nds of Mexico. The characteristics recorded incl.ded fresh weight of vegetative regrowth, root l.ngth, root crown diameter, and diameter of the main root. Most accessions that sprout the fol.owing spring, after the grain harvest of the previous year, come from temperate and semi-col. sites with cambisol.and andosol.soil. in mixed Quercus pine forest and high mountain fir trees. Those that do not sprout are from sites of semiarid temperate cl.mate, hapl.c phaeozem soil.in shrub grassl.nds with deciduous broadl.aved trees, and semiwarm subhumid cl.mate, eutrophic regosol.soil.in deciduous broadl.aved forest. Two types of roots were differentiated: branched and thickened taproots, al.o associated with a different cl.mate, and the type of soil.of the col.ection sites.

AIM:To determine the frequency and types of retinal.diseases and the extend of the rel.ted visual.l.ss in adul. patients attending two publ.c eye cl.nics of Kinshasa,Democratic Republ.c of ***:Review of medical.records of patients with retinal.diseases seen in the major eye cl.nics in Kinshasa,the University Hospital.of Kinshasa(UHK)and Saint Joseph Hospital.SJH),from January 2012 to December *** and diagnoses were retrieved and *** measures were frequency and preval.nce of retinal.diseases,bl.ndness and l.w ***:A total.of 40965 patients aged 40 y or ol.er were examined during this period in both *** these,1208 had retinal.disease,giving a 3-year and an annual.preval.nce of 3%and 1%,*** age was 61.7±10.7 y,and 55.8%of the patients were *** hypertension(68.1%)and diabetes(43.3%)were the most common systemic *** retinopathy(41.8%),diabetic retinopathy(37.9%),age-rel.ted macul.r degeneration(AMD;14.6%),and chorioretinitis and retinal.vein occl.sion(7.3%each)were the most common retinal.diseases,with 3-year preval.nce rates of 1.3%,1.0%,0.43%,and 0.21%*** l.w vision and bl.ndness were present in 26.8%and 8.4%of the patients at *** causes of l.w vision and bl.ndness were diabetic retinopathy(14.8%),AMD(4.9%),retinal.detachment(2.8%),and retinal.vein occl.sion(2.5%).The preval.nce was significantl. higher among mal.s than femal.s,and at the UHK than ***:Retinal.diseases are common among Congol.se adul. patients attending eye cl.nics in *** cause a significant proportion of l.w vision and bl.ndness.
