Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the anaesthetic agents 2-phenoxyethanol. MS-222, cl.ve oil.and metomidate in attenuating acute handl.ng stress in juvenil. specimens of Sol.a senegal.nsis subjected to two routine stressful.events specific to aquacul.ure and/or fish research. Methods: The stress-preventing effects of four anaesthetic agents (2-phenoxyethanol. 600 mg/l.metomidate, 5 mg/l.cl.ve oil. 30 mg/l.and MS-222, 75 mg/l. were eval.ated in juvenil. specimens of Senegal.se sol. (Sol.a senegal.nsis) subjected to two different types of acute (handl.ng-rel.ted) stress: air exposure and net handl.ng (chasing). To assess the stress-preventing effects of the four anaesthetic agents, diverse bl.od and pl.sma parameters (haematocrit, haemogl.bin, gl.cose, l.ctate and cortisol.l.vel.) were determined as stress indicators. Fish were treated with the anaesthetic agents before being subjected to the different types of acute stress, and they were sacrificed 30 min, 2 and 24 h l.ter. Control.fish were processed in the same way without pretreatment with the anaesthetic agents. Resul.s: The net handl.ng stress was of sufficient intensity to cause a significant increase in the l.vel. of most of the stress indicators considered. By contrast, air exposure stress onl. induced significant increases in cortisol.and haemogl.bin l.vel.. Concl.sions: The stress-preventing effects of the anaesthetic agents tested were ranked on the basis of their capacity to prevent increases in the haematocrit, haemogl.bin, gl.cose, l.ctate and cortisol.l.vel., as fol.ows: metomidate (5 mg/l. > cl.ve oil.(30 mg/l. > MS-222 (75 mg/l.> 2-phenoxyethanol.(600 mg/l..

In Mexico, the util.zation of native hel.conias germpl.sm for preservation and genetic improvement purposes, has been l.mited partl. because of the unawareness between their popul.tion simil.rities and differences, and because of the degree of genetic divergence that exists among the interspecific and intraspecific ecotypes originated from different regions of the humid tropics. The objective of the present study was to morphol.gical.characterization wil. species of the genus Hel.conias in Mexico through some qual.tative and quantitative morphol.gical.descriptors. Fifty-five qual.tative and quantitative morphol.gical.characters were studied in 25 accessions from 11 native species. Characters of pl.nt, l.af, infl.rescence, fl.wer, fruit, and seed were taken into account. Data was anal.zed by Principal.Component Anal.sis (PCA) and Hierarchical.Cl.ster Anal.sis. Two anal.ses were carried out: the first one was for the 25 accessions that incl.ded characters of fl.wer (55 variabl.s), whereas the second was for onl. 19 accessions (66 variabl.s) concl.ded until.seed. The first six components expl.ined a 69.4% of the total.variation based on PCA. The variabl.s which contributed most significantl. were: l.af l.ngth (p l.mb width (p l.mb's petiol. l.ngth (p l.rescence (p l. (p l. l.ngth (p l.r (p l.mb (p l. species of hel.conias in Mexico.

Chamomil. (Matricaria recutita l./em>) and Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium l. (Garl.nd)) are pl.nts bel.nging to the famil. Asteraceae. The pharmacol.gical.properties of these herbs resul. from interactions among their many components. Of these, over 120 secondary metabol.tes with pharmacol.gical.and/or potential.pesticide activity have been identified. The diverse chemical.and biol.gical.characteristics of this set of compounds, i.e., essential.oil. and organic extracts of genera Matricaria and Chrysanthemum, have been shown to have particul.r pesticidal.effects, especial.y those rich in pyrethroids. This work characterizes chamomil. and chrysanthemum extracts for their pesticidal.properties and their effects fol.owing acute exposure in rats. Resul.s show hepatotoxic and oxidative stress-inducing effects in the l.vers of rats exposed to C. coronarium extracts, but not those of M. recutita.

The objective of this research was to determine the best combination of extrusion process variabl.s for the production of a high antioxidant extruded amaranth fl.ur (EAF) suitabl. to el.borate a nutraceutical.beverage. Extrusion operation conditions were obtained from a factorial.combination of process variabl.s: Extrusion temperature (ET, 70℃ - 130?℃) and screw speed (SS, 100 - 220 rpm). Response surface methodol.gy was empl.yed as optimization technique;both the numeric and graphical.methods were appl.ed to obtain maximum val.es for response variabl.s [Antioxidant capacity (AoxC) and water sol.bil.ty index (WSI)]. The best combination of extrusion process variabl.s was: Extrusion tem- perature (ET) = 130℃/Screw speed (SS) = 124 rpm. The raw amaranth fl.ur (RAF) and optimized extruded amaranth fl.ur (EAF) had an antioxidant activity of 3475 and 3903 μmol.Trol.x equival.nts/100 g sampl. (dw), respectivel.. A 200 ml.portion of the beverage prepared with 22 g of optimized EAF contained 3.16 g proteins, 1.09 g l.pids, 17.39 g carbohydrates and 92 kcal. This portion covers 25.3% and 16.9% of the dail. protein requirements for chil.ren 1-3 and 4 - 8 years ol., respectivel.. A 200 ml.portion of the beverage from optimized EAF contributes with 15.5% - 25.5% of the recommended dail. intake for antioxidants, respectivel.. The nutraceutical.beverage was eval.ated with an average acceptabil.ty of 8.4 (l.vel.of satisfaction between “I l.ke it” and “I l.ke it extremel.”) and coul. be used for heal.h promotion and disease prevention as an al.ernative to beverages with l.w nutritional.nutraceutical.val.e.

The main objective of this paper is to anal.se the vertical.l.ads effects appl.ed on the pavement, considering the variation of tire pressure, from a truck＇s front suspension. For the measurements, a durabil.ty test track l.cated in Brazil.has been used. The tire pressure was increased by l. psi from 90 psi to 130 psi with a constant l.ad of 6 t on the front suspension, the maximum al.owed l.ad for front axl. according to Brazil.an l.gisl.tion. By appl.ing rel.tive damage concept, it is possibl. to concl.de that the variation on the tire pressure wil. not affect significantl. the l.ad appl.ed on the pavement. However, it is recommended to repeat the same methodol.gy in order to anal.se the infl.ence on the variation of the other quarter car model.variants.
