Since ancient times,the inhabitants of dry areas have depended on the date palm(Phoenix dactylifera L.)as a staple food and means of economic *** example,dates have been a staple diet for the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula and Sahara Desert in North Africa for millennia and the local culture is rich in knowledge and experience with the benefits of dates,suggesting that dates contain many substances essential for the human *** dates are considered one of the most important types of dates in the Arabian Peninsula,with Ajwa being one of the most famous types and grown only in Madinah,Saudi *** seeds are traditionally used for animal feed,seed oil production,cosmetics,and as a coffee *** compounds that have been detected in date fruits and date seeds include phenolic acids,carotenoids,and *** acids are the most prevalent bioactive constituents that contribute to the antioxidant activity of date *** bioactive properties of these phytochemicals are believed to promote human health by reducing the risk of diseases such as chronic *** dates especially are thought to have superior bioactivity *** investigate these claims,in this study,we compare the metabolic profiles of Ajwa with different types of dates collected from Saudi Arabia and *** show by UHPLC-MS that date seeds contain several classes of flavonoids,phenolic acids,and amino acid derivatives,including citric acid,malic acid,lactic acid,and hydroxyadipic ***,GC-MS profiling showed that date seeds are richer in metabolite classes,such as hydrocinnamic acids(caffeic,ferulic and sinapic acids),than flesh *** N fruit extract(minimum inhibitory concentration:27 MIC/μM)and Sukkari fruit extract(IC_(50):479±0.58μg/mL)have higher levels of antibacterial and antioxidative activity than Ajwa ***,the seed analysis showed that seed extracts have better bioactivity effects than fruit extr

Smartphone Applications for the Radiologist

Smart phone applications (apps) for radiologists are on the rise. Not only do they assist the radiologist in reference to information but they can also aid in their day-to-day functioning too most notably through image viewing apps known as Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) viewers. These kinds of apps signal a transition towards an increasingly mobile medical environment in what could be an exciting but cautious time for radiologists as these apps are not without their own concerns. In this review we provide basic information on how to create an app, highlight the current state of play of pivotal radiology apps and discuss the legal issues surrounding them.

A new al-based amorphous alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and high thermal stability was produced in the al-Co-RE(Ce-La)*** this regard,two different amorphous-nanocrystalline ribbons:al_(87.6)-Co_(6.4)-Ce_(3.8-)La_(2.2)(M_(1))and al_(82.3)-Co_(10.1)-Ce_(4.8)-La_(2.8)(M_(2))were prepared using melt *** results reveal the supercooled liquid region(ATx)of 218℃which shows that the M2alloy has higher thermal stability in comparison to the *** M2ribbons present the superior corrosion resistance because of the formation of amorphous *** icorr,Ecorr,Epit,and Epit-Ecorrvalues of fully amorphous al-Co-Ce-La metallic ribbons have a better trend of anti-corrosion performance compared to other crystalline and amorphous aluminum alloys.

Nuclear facility aging is one of the biggest problems encountered in nuclear engineering. Radiation damage is among one of the aging causes. This kind of damage is an important factor of mechanical properties deterioration. The interest of this study is on the Es-Salam research reactor aluminum vessel aging due to neutron radiation. Monte Carlo(MC) simulations were performed by MCNP6 and SRIM codes to estimate the defects created by neutrons in the vessel. MC simulations by MCNP6 have been performed to determine the distribution of neutron fluence and primary knock-on atom(PKA) creation. Considering our boundary conditions of the calculations, the helium and hydrogen gas production in the model at a normalized total neutron flux of 6.62×10^(12) n/cm^2 s were determined to be 2.86 × 10~8 and 1.33 × 10~9 atoms/cm^3 s,respectively. The SRIM code was used for the simulation of defects creation(vacancies, voids) in the aluminum alloy of the Es-Salam vessel(Esal) by helium and hydrogen with an approximate energy of 11 MeV *** coupling between the two codes is based upon postprocessing of the particle track(PTRAC) output file generated by the MCNP6. A small program based on the Mat Lab language is performed to condition the output file MCNP6 in the format of a SRIM input file. The concentration of silicon was determined for the vessel by the calculation of the total rate of ^(27)al(n,γ)^(28)Si reaction. The DPA(displacement per atom) was calculated in SRIM according to R.E. Stoller recommendations; the calculated value is 0.02 at a fast neutron fluence 1.89 × 10^(19) n/cm^***-MRx standard for 6061-T6 aluminum was used for the simulation of the evolution of mechanical properties for high fluence. The calculated values of nuclear parameters and DPA obtained were in agreement with the experimental results from the Oak Ridge High Flux Isotope Reactor(HFIR) reported by Farrell and coworkers.

Physiological Races of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Ciceris in Iraq

Twenty isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris were isolated from wilted chickpea plants obtained from different districts of north part of Iraq to assess variability in pathogenicity of the populations. Each isolate was tested on 12 differential chickpea varieties. Isolates showed highly significant variation in wilt severity on the differential varieties. Based on the reaction types that induced on differential varieties, isolates were grouped into four groups, First group included isolates FocSl, FocQ7, FocQ 10, FocFI3, FocH 17 and FocHl8; the second group included isolates FocS2, FocS3, FocS4, FocQ5, FocQ8, FocQ9, FocF11, FocF12, FocFl4 and FocH19; the third group included isolates FocF15, FocHl6, FocH20; where the isolate FocQ6 was placed in the fourth group. Results showed that the percentage of genetic similarity was ranged 42% to 100% and was 42% between the first group and other groups and 72% between the three groups the rest and thus this indicate the presence of four races of the fungus which are O, 4, 5 and 1B/C, this represent the first record of these races in lraq.

Desiccation versus Re-Flooding: Heavy Metals Mobilization—Part 1

From the restoration point of view, heavy metals distribution and seasonal variation were studied in the re-flooded marshes of the Mesopotamia, southern Iraq. As part of the ecological recovery assessment of these newly inundated marshes, it is important to investigate the extend impact of 13 years of desiccation after five years of inundation on the heavy metals mobilization from the marshland downstream into the Shatt al-Arab River and examine whether these marshlands retain their role of acting as sink of metals. The result shows significant differences between the re-flooded marshes versus the reference marsh, which indicates that desiccation cased changes in environmental variables and divided the one homogeneous system of the Mesopotamia into separated systems. In addition, the special distribution of heavy metals show that al-Hawizeh and al-Hammar marshlands were efficient for metals reduction, especially for Ni, while the Central marshland has the major contribution as source to metals. As a conclusion, the recovery potential of three marshlands is strongly controlled by the hydrological status of the marshland and the degree of the desiccation impact. The environmental status of the semidried marshes, al-Souda north and Um al-Niaaj, as well as the completely Abu Zarag dried marsh are exhibiting a positive recovery degree than the other monitored marshes in the Mesopotamia in comparison to the reference marsh.

Characterization， wear behavior and biocompatibility of HA/Ti composite and functionally graded coatings deposited on a Ti-6al-4V substrate by a mechanical coating technique

In this study， characterization， wear behavior， and biocompatibility of HA/Ti composite and functionally graded coatings (FGCs) deposited on a Ti-6al-4V substrate by a mechanical coating technique were compared. The composite coating was produced using the initial powder mixture of 50Wt% Ti/50Wt% HA， while the FGC was deposited by two separate layers containing 75Wt%Ti/25Wt% HA and 25Wt% Ti/75Wt% HA， respectively. The XRD results exhibited no phase changes during the deposition process. Moreover， due to the presence of Ti particles in the primary powder mixtures， a continuous interface with a superior bond was formed between the coating and the substrate， especially in the samples coated by the FGCs. The wear test results of the non-graded composite coating showed a coefficient of friction (COF) of about 0.37 with an abrupt change at the interface， while the COF of the FGCs increased from 0.32 to 0.5 with a gentle change at the interface. The SEM images of the worn surfaces indicated the dominance of the abrasive wear mechanism. The biocompatibility evaluations revealed better cell attachment and proliferation of the FGC-coated samples.

Effects of heat treatment on the intermetallic compounds and mechanical properties of the stainless steel 321–aluminum 1230 explosive-welding interface

The effects of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of intermetallic compounds in the interface of stainless steel 321 explosively bonded to aluminum 1230 were investigated in this study. Experimental investigations were performed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and microhardness and shear tensile strength testing. Prior to heat treatment, increasing the stand-off distance between samples from 1 to 2.5 mm caused their interface to become wavy and the thickness of intermetallic layers to increase from 3.5 to 102.3 μm. The microhardness increased from HV 766 in the sample prepared at a stand-off distance of 1 mm to HV 927 in the sample prepared at a stand-off distance of 2.5 mm; in addition, the sample strength increased from 103.2 to 214.5 MPa. Heat treatment at 450°C for 6 h increased the thickness of intermetallic compound layers to 4.4 and 118.5 μm in the samples prepared at stand-off distances of 1 and 2.5 mm, respectively. These results indicated that increasing the duration and temperature of heat treatment decreased the microhardness and strength of the interface of explosively welded stainless steel 321-al 1230 and increased the thickness of the intermetallic region.
