Background:Large numbers of post-deployment *** are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)and/or traumatic brain injury(TBI),leading to an urgent need for effective interventions to reduce symptoms and increase veterans’*** includes anxiety,flashbacks,and emotional *** symptoms increase health care costs for stress-related illnesses and can make veterans’civilian life ***:We used a randomized wait-list controlled design with repeated measures of *** veterans to address our specific aim to test the efficacy of a 6-week therapeutic horseback riding(THR)program for decreasing PTSD symptoms and increasing coping self-efficacy,emotion regulation,social and emotional *** participants were recruited and 29 enrolled in the randomized *** were randomly assigned to either the horse riding group(n=15)or a wait-list control group(n=14).The wait-list control group experienced a 6-week waiting period,while the horse riding group began *** wait-list control group began riding after 6 weeks of participating in the control *** and health history information was obtained from all the *** symptoms were measured using the standardized PTSD Checklist-Military Version(PCL-M).The PCL-M as well as other instruments including,The Coping Self Efficacy Scale(CSES),The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale(DERS)and The Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults-short version(SELSA)were used to access different aspects of individual well-being and the PTSD ***:Participants had a statistically significant decrease in PTSD scores after 3 weeks of THR(P≤0.01)as well as a statistically and clinically significant decrease after 6 weeks of THR(P≤0.01).Logistic regression showed that participants had a 66.7%likelihood of having lower PTSD scores at 3 weeks and 87.5%likelihood at 6 *** the generalized linear model(GLM),our ANOVA findings for the coping self

Assessment of Hepatic Arterial Anatomy Prior to Organ Recovery

Iatrogenic hepatic arterial injury during organ recovery increases ischaemic times and risk of hepatic artery thrombosis. A review of CT imaging prior to organ recovery would alert retrieving surgeons to the presence of anatomical variants. This study aimed to identify the proportion of donors with coincidental CT scans for review and the ability of organ retrieval surgeons to interpret these images. Consecutive organ donors with coincidental abdominal contrast enhanced CT scans were assessed by review of an electronic radiology database. These images, with additional cases, were blindly reviewed by organ recovery surgeons to assess their ability to define anatomy. 13/156 donors had coincidental imaging for review. Using 23 CT sequences, the median positive and negative predictive value of surgeons to correctly describe right hepatic arterial anatomy was 0.83 and 0.94, of the left hepatic anatomy was 0.75 and 0.94 respectively. The availability of CT imaging for review prior to donation is low. However, when available, surgeons can correctly define hepatic arterial anatomy in the majority of cases. A practice of routinely reviewing available imaging prior to organ recovery would be expected to decrease iatrogenic arterial injury.

High Power, Room Temperature Terahertz Emitters Based on Dopant Transitions in 6H-Silicon Carbide

Electrically pumped high power terahertz （THz） emitters that operated above room temperature in a pulse mode were fabricated from nitrogen-doped n-type 6H-SiC. The emission spectra had peaks centered on 5 THz and 12 THz （20 meV and 50 meV） that were attributed to radiative transitions of excitons bound to nitrogen donor impurities. Due to the relatively deep binding energies of the nitrogen donors, above 100 meV, and the high thermal conductivity of the SiC substrates, the THz output power and operating temperature were significantly higher than previous dopant based emitters. With peak applied currents of a few amperes, and a top surface area of 1 mm2, the device emitted up to 0.5 mW at liquid nitrogen temperature （77 K）, and tens of microwatts up to 333 K. This result is the highest temperature of THz emission reported from impurity-based emitters.

以澳大利亚库珀盆地二叠系Roseneath组和Muteree组页岩样品及测井数据为基础,综合利用地球化学分析、测井解释和岩心分析技术对Roseneath组和Muteree组页岩进行矿物模拟及岩石物性参数研究,评估这两套页岩的页岩气资源潜力。综合岩心和岩屑样品分析得到的沉积学、岩相学、扫描电镜(SEM)和X射线衍射(XRD)数据,建立目的层矿物模型;基于岩心和岩屑的常规岩心分析结果、伽马测井资料、扫描电镜分析结果、XRD分析结果、地球化学和岩相学分析结果,针对关键井进行岩石物理建模。利用所建模型对两套页岩进行矿物成分模拟和岩石物性参数分析。Roseneath组页岩和Murteree组页岩均由黏土、石英、碳酸盐和干酪根组成,还含有少量副矿物,如长石、菱铁矿等。根据孔隙度、渗透率、TOC、含水饱和度、矿物组成等结果判断,Murteree组页岩在盆地范围内的资源潜力比Roseneath组页岩更好,潜力区在Encounter 1井区及其周边地区。

Experimental Analysis of Interacting HT22 Plasma Membrane Cholesterol and β-Amyloid

The peptide β-Amyloid (β-A) is known to be one of the primary factors causing neurodegeneration in the Alzheimer disease. Hence, one would like to know the factors that would increase or decrease the toxicity of β-Amyloid in the brain. One of the factors that are debated in the literature is cholesterol, where it is not clear if modulating the levels of cholesterol would affect the degree of toxicity of β-Amyloid on neuron cells in the brain. In order to investigate this problem, data were collected and analyzed for three types of experiments: 1) Correspondence between cholesterol and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD) measurements;2) measurements of the relative fluorescence unit (RFU) with respect to MβCD concentration (with/without β-A);and 3) RFU measurements with respect to β-A concentration (with/without MβCD). HT22 hippocampal neurons immortalized with the simian virus SV-40 large T-antigen plasmid vector were used to conduct the experiments. Mito-ID Membrane potential cytotoxicity was used as a measure of mitochondrial potential change. The statistical analysis of the presented experimental results indicates that cholesterol has no statistically significant effect on the degree of toxicity of β-Amyloid.

Metastatic recurrence to a solitary lymph node four years after hepatic lobectomy for primary hepatocellular carcinoma

This report describes a patient that developed recurrent metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) to a suprapancreatic lymph node four years after being treated for primary HCC via complete left hepatectomy. Metastatic HCC was proven by pathologic confirmation. The report addresses the role of surgical resection as a treatment modality for recurrent HCC to solitary lymph nodes. The role of biological chemotherapy as adjuvant treatment is also addressed.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare professionals have a duty to maintain basic life support(BLS) skills. This study aims to evaluate medical students' factual knowledge of BLS and the training they ***: A cross-sectional, closed-response questionnaire was distributed to the fi rst-and fourth-year students studying at institutions in the United Kingdom. The paper questionnaire sought to quantify respondent's previous BLS training, factual knowledge of the BLS algorithm using five multiple choice questions(MCQs), and valuate their desire for further BLS training. Students received 1 point for each correctly identifi ed answer to the 5 MCQ'***: A total of 3,732 complete responses were received from 21 medical schools. Eighty percent(n=2,999) of students completed a BLS course as part of their undergraduate medical studies. There was a signifi cant difference(P<0.001) in the percentage of the fourth-year students selecting the correct answer in all the MCQ's compared to the fi rst-year students except in identifyingthe correct depth of compressions required during CPR(P=0.095). Overall 10.3%(95% CI 9.9% to 10.7%) of respondents correctly identified the answer to 5 MCQ's on BLS: 9% of the first-year students(n=194) and 12% of the fourth-year students(n=190). On an institutional level the proportion of students answering all MCQ's correctly ranged from 2% to 54% at different universities. Eighty-one percent of students(n=3,031) wished for more BLS training in their ***: Factual knowledge of BLS is poor among medical students in the UK. There is a disparity in standards of knowledge across institutions and respondents indicating that they would like more training.

Development of a Reproducible Rating System for Sun Protective Clothing That Incorporates Body Surface Coverage

Sunlight is a known skin carcinogen. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in humans, and typically affects sun-exposed parts of the body. Sunny Australia and New Zealand have the highest incidence of skin cancer globally. Clothing provides a protective barrier that reduces the amount of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) reaching the skin. Australia pioneered the development of a relative ranking of the sun-protective capabilities of clothing based on the transmission of UVR through fabric. Standardized Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measurement procedures and associated labeling specifications are documented in the Australian and New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS 4399:1996. The standard was intended to enable consumers to make informed choices. Since its introduction, this standard has been adopted almost universally by the textile industry, and is still in use almost two decades on, with plans to revise it only commencing recently. However, AS/NZS 4399:1996 does not consider garment design, particularly in relation to body surface coverage. Although swim-shirts have grown in popularity in Australia since the late 1990s, particularly among children, clothing remains under-utilized as a form of sun-protection in contemporary society. Skin cancer prevention campaigns should emphasize the sun-protective benefits of clothing and collaboration with the fashion industry is urgently needed to improve the aesthetic appeal, comfort, durability and affordability of sun-protective clothing to increase its popularity in skin cancer prone populations. In light of recent evidence showing that high UPF clothing which covers more of the body surface reduces pigmented mole development in children (major risk factor for melanoma), the rating system for sun-protective clothing should incorporate body surface covered as well as the UPF of the fabric.
