Diabetic corneal neuropathy as a surrogate marker for diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is a prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus,affecting nerves in all parts of the body including corneal nerves and peripheral nervous system,leading to diabetic corneal neuropathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy,*** peripheral neuropathy is diagnosed in clinical practice using electrophysiological nerve conduction studies,clinical scoring,and skin ***,these diagnostic methods have limited sensitivity in detecting small-fiber disease,hence they do not accurately reflect the status of diabetic *** recently,analysis of alterations in the corneal nerves has emerged as a promising surrogate marker for diabetic peripheral *** this review,we will discuss the relationship between diabetic corneal neuropathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy,elaborating on the foundational aspects of each:pathogenesis,clinical presentation,evaluation,and *** will further discuss the relevance of diabetic corneal neuropathy in detecting the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy,particularly early diabetic peripheral neuropathy;the correlation between the severity of diabetic corneal neuropathy and that of diabetic peripheral neuropathy;and the role of diabetic corneal neuropathy in the stratification of complications of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Predicting Supermassive Black Hole Mass with Machine Learning Methods

It is crucial to measure the mass of supermassive black holes(SMBHs)in understanding the co-evolution between the SMBHs and their host *** methods usually require spectral data which are expensive to *** use the AGN catalog from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey project Data Release 7(DR7)to investigate the correlations between SMBH mass and their host galaxy *** apply the machine learning algorithms,such as Lasso regression,to establish the correlation between the SMBH mass and various photometric properties of their host *** find an empirical formula that can predict the SMBH mass according to galaxy luminosity,colors,surface brightness,and *** root-mean-square error is 0.5 dex,comparable to the intrinsic scatter in SMBH mass *** 1σscatter in the relation between the SMBH mass and the combined galaxy properties relation is 0.48 dex,smaller than the scatter in the SMBH mass versus galaxy stellar mass *** relation could be used to study the SMBH mass function and the AGN duty cycles in the future.

Status monitoring and health assessment of Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China

The monitoring survey and health assessment for benthic community were carried out in Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China in 2002. Monitoring survey included manta tow, line intercept transect, video transect and digital photograph. The mean live coral cover was 23.40%. Comparison of used monitoring methods showed that video transect can replace line intercept transect, and 50 m transect is better than 20 m transect in uneven coral region. Survey data and comparison with previous research work showed that Luhuitou fringing reef has been damaged severely and has a general declining trend with live coral cover from about 85% in the 1960s down to 20% in 2004, but it still has quite high biodiversity and therefore has special protection value. Main factors of Luhuitou fringing reef declining were human activities including reef rock digging and curios collecting, destructive fishing, sediment and pollutant from coastal land, and recent marine aquaculture. Only strengthening integrated management can reach improvement and restoration of Luhuitou declining coral reef ecosystem.

Detection of diverse viruses in alimentary specimens of bats in Macao

Bats carry a variety of viruses, and some of them cause public health problems. Macao, which is famous for its gambling industry, has a complex population structure. The globalization in such an international metropolis has enhanced the chance of disease transmission. Therefore, surveillance of zoonotic viruses is necessary for the early warning of potential emerging infectious ***, we report the first surveillance of bat viruses in Macao. In this study, we collected 1004 samples involving 10 bat species from 7 sites from April 2015 to May 2016, and examined the presence of viruses using nucleic acid-based methods. Coronaviruses, adenoviruses and paramyxoviruses were detected in these samples, with a high prevalence of coronaviruses. While,none was positive for hepatitis A virus, hepatitis E virus or hantavirus. Co-infections are not common in those bat species, but coronavirus HKU6 and adenovirus can be found commonly occurred in Myotis ricketti.

CDK4/6 inhibitors are the standard treatment in advanced HR+/HER2-breast cancer ***,the resistance to CDK4/6 inhibitors is inevitable and the strategies to overcome resistance are of great ***,we show that the palbociclibresistant breast cancer cells expressed significantly higher levels of Cyclin D1 and CDK4 proteins because of upregulated protein *** Cyclin D1 or CDK4 led to cell cycle arrest while silencing Cyclin E1 or CDK2 restored the sensitivity to ***,PI3K/mTOR pathway was hyper-activated in palbociclib-resistant cells,leading to more phosphorylated 4E-BP1 and higher levels of Cyclin D1 and CDK4 *** PI3K/mTOR pathway with a specific PI3Kαinhibitor(BYL719)or an mTOR inhibitor(everolimus)reduced the protein levels of Cyclin D1 and CDK4,and restored the sensitivity to *** tumor samples expressed significantly higher levels of Cyclin D1,CDK4,p-AKT and p-4E-BP1 after progression on palbociclib *** conclusion,our findings suggest that overexpressed Cyclin D1 and CDK4 proteins lead to the resistance to CDK4/6 inhibitor and PI3K/mTOR inhibitors are able to restore the sensitivity to CDK4/6 inhibitors,which provides the biomarker and rationale for the combinational use of CDK4/6 inhibitors and PI3K/mTOR inhibitors after CDK4/6 inhibitor resistance in breast cancer.

We operated a p-type point contact high purity germanium(PPCGe)detector(CDEX-1B,1.008 kg)in the China Jinping Underground Laboratory(CJPL)for 500.3 days to search for neutrinoless double beta(0νββ)decay of^(76)Ge.A total of 504.3 kg⋅day effective exposure data was *** anti-coincidence and the multi/single-site event(MSE/SSE)discrimination methods were used to suppress the background in the energy region of interest(ROI,1989–2089 keV for this work)with a factor of 23.A background level of 0.33 counts/(keV⋅kg⋅yr)was *** lower limit on the half life of^(76)Ge 0νββdecay was constrained as T_(1/2)^(0ν)>1.0×10^(23)yr(90%C.L.),corresponding to the upper limits on the effective Majorana neutrino mass:<3.2–7.5 eV.

Genome-wide identification and analysis of the regulation wheat DnaJ family genes following wheat yellow mosaic virus infection

The co-chaperone DnaJ plays an important role in protein folding and regulation of various physiological activities, and participates in several pathological processes. DnaJ has been extensively studied in many species including humans,drosophila, mushrooms, tomatoes, and Arabidopsis. However, few studies have examined the role of DnaJ in wheat(Triticum aestivum), and the interaction mechanism between TaDnaJs and plant viruses. Here, we identified 236 TaDnaJs and performed a comprehensive genome-wide analysis of conserved domains, gene structure and protein motifs, chromosomal positions and duplication relationships, and cis-acting elements. We grouped these Ta Dna Js according to their domains, and randomly selected six genes from the groups for tissue-specific analysis, and expression profiles analysis under hormone stress, and 17 genes for plant virus infection stress. In qRT-PCR, we found that among the 17 TaDnaJ genes tested, 16 genes were up-regulated after wheat yellow mosaic virus(WYMV) infection, indicating that the TaDnaJ family is involved in plant defense response. Subsequent yeast two-hybrid assays verified the WYMV NIa, NIb and 7 KD proteins interacted with TaDJC(TraesCS7 A02 G506000), which had the most significant changes in gene expression levels after WYMV *** into the molecular mechanisms of Ta Dna J-mediated stress tolerance and sensitivity could inform different strategies designed to improve crop resistance to abiotic and biotic stress. This study provides a basis for future investigation of the TaDnaJ family and plant defense mechanisms.

Effective Common Chinese Herbal Medicines Used in Treating Chronic Cholecystitis with Liver-Gallbladder Dampness-Heat Syndrome: A Review of Clinical Studies in the Past 10 Years

The objective of the study is to identify the effective common Chinese herbal medicines used in treating chronic cholecystitis with liver-gallbladder dampness-heat syndrome(CCLGDHS) through reviewing relevant clinical studies published in the past 10 years. Data were collected from Science Direct and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure. Data screening was carried out for the abstracts and full texts of the data. The top 15 Chinese herbal medicines with the highest occurring frequency were selected, statistically analyzed, and classified by their medicinal properties, actions, and indications according to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2015 edition. The top 15 effective common Chinese herbal medicines comprise Chai Hu, Huang qin, Jin qian Cao, Bai Shao, Yin Chen, Yu Jin, Chuan Lian Zi, Yan Hu Suo, Zhi shi, Ban Xia, Bai Zhu, Pu Gong Ying, Gan Cao, Zhi Zi, and qing Pi. The predominant natures were cold, cool, and warm. This combination can clear stagnant heat, warm Yang, and regulate qi dynamics. In addition, bitter, pungent, and sweet were the predominant flavors. They can clear dampness-heat, regulate qi dynamics to relieve cramps and pain, as well as tonify the deficiency. Along with entering the liver and gallbladder meridians, these herbal medicines also entered the spleen, stomach, and lung meridians to prevent potential disease transmission. The combinatorial medicinal actions of the effective common Chinese herbal medicine highlight the importance of the holistic concept of traditional Chinese medicine when treating CCLGDHS. In addition, the inclusion of activating blood to promote blood circulation, relieving cramps and alleviating pain, and tonifying the spleen and stomach represents a new finding in the treatment principle for CCLGDHS.

Polyunsaturated linolenoyl-Co A modulates ERF-Ⅶ mediated hypoxia signaling in Arabidopsis
