We tested whether continuous cohabitation in monogamous voles affects the mated male＇s atten-tiveness to his breeding partner versus another female. Each male was housed in a 3-chamber ap-paratus with a Focal female （FF） and a Control female （CF） for 13 days then placed in a T-maze toassess his attentiveness to and memory of those females. The Distal male remained physically sep-arated from both females, but received their distal cues. The Separate male cohabited with the FFfor 3 days then remained physically separated from both females. The Disrupt male＇s continuouscohabitation with the FF was disrupted by having him physically separated from her after 10 daysand placed with the CF for the last 3 days. The Continuous male cohabited continuously with the FFfor 13 days. With females in the T-maze, the Separate and Disrupt males spent more time near theFF＇s box and the Disrupt males spent more time manipulating the FF＇s box than the CF＇s box. TheSeparate males groomed themselves more when near the FF＇s box than the CF＇s box. The Distaland Continuous males＇ attentiveness to the two females did not differ. Results suggest that phys-ical distance from the partner may reduce male＇s attentiveness toward other potential *** voles might be similar to socially monogamous primates in using tactile cues as a signal formaintaining their social bonds.

In the present work,the transparent oxyfluoride glass-ceramic samples containing GdF3:RE^3+(RE=Tb,Eu)nanocrystals(nGCs)were fabricated via controlled heat-treatment of precursor xerogels prepared using a sol-gel *** formation of GdF3 nanocrystalline phase from gadolinium(III)trifluoroacetate was verified based on XRD *** average crystal sizes calculated from Scherrer formula were estimated to^10 nm as well as^6 nm for Tb^3+-and Eu^3+-doped samples,*** optical behavior of prepared sol-gel samples was evaluated based on photoluminescence excitation(PLE)and emission spectra(PL)as well as luminescence decay *** samples exhibit the 5D4→7FJ(J=6-3,Tb3+)and the 5D0→7FJ(J=0-4,Eu3+)emission bands recorded within the visible spectral area under excitation at near-UV(393 nm(Eu^3+),351,369,378 nm(Tb^3+))as well as middle-UV illumination(273 nm(Gd3+)).Additionally,based on recorded decay curves,the luminescence lifetimes(τm)for the 5D4(Tb^3+)and the 5D0(Eu3+)excited states were also *** general,recorded luminescence spectra and double-exponential character of decay curves for nGCs indicate a successful migration of Tb^3+and Eu^3+dopant ions from amorphous silicate framework to lowphonon energy GdF3 nanocrystal phase.

maintaining standing postural balance is important for walking and handling abilities in patients with cerebral palsy. This study included 23 patients with cerebral palsy （seven with spastic diplegia and 16 with spastic hemiplegia）, aged from 7 to 16 years of age. Standing posture balance measurements were performed using an AmTI model OR6-7 force platform with the eyes open and closed. Patients with diplegic cerebral palsy exhibited greater center of pressure displacement areas with the eyes open and greater center of pressure sway in the medial-lateral direction with the eyes open and closed compared with hemiplegic patients, Thus, diplegic patients exhibited weaker postural balance control ability and less standing stability compared with hemiplegic cerebral palsy patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide and the second leading cause of death among all cancer types. Deregulation of the networks of tissue-specific transcription factors(TFs) observed in HCC leads to profound changes in the hepatic transcriptional program that facilitates tumor progression. In addition, recent reports suggest that substantial aberrations in the production of TF isoforms occur in HCC. In vitro experiments have identified distinct isoform-specific regulatory functions and related biological effects of liver-specific TFs that are implicated in carcinogenesis, which may be relevant for tumor progression and clinical outcome. This study reviews available data on the expression of isoforms of liver-specific and ubiquitous TFs in the liver and HCC and their effects, including HNF4α, C/EBPs, p73 and TCF7 L2, and indicates that assessment of the ratio of isoforms and targeting specific TF variants may be beneficial for the prognosis and treatment of HCC.

Isothermal titration calorimetry （ITC） was used to study interactions between water vapour and the surface of thermally converted sodium bicarbonate （NaHCO3）. The decarboxyla- tion degree of the samples was varied from 3% to 35% and the humidity range was 54-100%. The obtained enthalpy values were all exothermic and showed a positive linear correlation with decarboxylation degrees for each humidity studied. The critical humidity, 75% （RHo）, was determined as the inflection point on a plot of the mean-AH kJ/mole Na2CO3 against RH. Humidities above the critical humidity lead to complete surface dissolution. The water uptake （m） was determined after each calorimetric experiment, complementing the enthalpy data. A mechanism of water vapour interaction with decarboxylated samples, including the formation of trona and Wegscheider＇s salt on the bicarbonate surface is proposed for humidities below RHo.

Over the past few decades, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has become one, if not the most common,cause of chronic liver disease affecting both adults and children. The increasing number of cases at an early age is the most worrying aspect of this pathology, since it provides more time for its evolution. The spectrum of this disease ranges from liver steatosis to steatohepatitis, fibrosis and in some cases, hepatocellular carcinoma. NAFLD may not always be considered a benign disease and hepatologists must be cautious in the presence of fatty liver. This should prompt the use of the available experimental models to understand better the pathogenesis and to develop a rational treatment of a disease that is dangerously increasing. In spite of the growing efforts, the pathogenesis of NAFLD is still poorly understood. In the present article we review the most relevant hypotheses and evidence that account for the progression of NAFLD to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) and fibrosis. The available in vitro and in vivo experimental models of NASH are discussed and revised in terms of their validity in translational studies. These studies must be aimed at the discovery of the still unknown triggers or mediators that induce the progression of hepatic inflammation, apoptosis and fibrosis.
