Biochar wettability and ability to accumulate mois.ure ins.de the porous.s.ace are crucial for improving s.il fertility,regulating s.il water balance,and regulating ***,a long-term interaction of biochar with agricultural s.ils.may dras.ically alter the wetting properties.and,eventually,influence water holding capacity and the s.ructure of *** this.work,the s.ructure and wetting properties.of biochar s.mples.after 6-year long expos.re to a s.ndy loam s.odos.l with a crop rotation and mineral fertilizers.application were *** was.found that the elemental compos.tion of the aged biochars.was.richer and more"s.il-like",which is.explained by the pres.nce of the mineral crus. on the biochar *** temporal evolution of biochar in the s.il without any mineral fertilizer application res.lted in s.gnificant improvement of its.s.rface wettability due to the effects.of various.environmental *** lateral s.rface of biochar after 6-year interaction with the s.il changes.into a loos. porous.layer in a form of grooved bas. filled with adherent mineral s.il and clay ***,the application of the mineral fertilizer to the s.il res.lted in decreas.d wettability of the biochar lateral s.rfaces.due to a decreas. in the polar component of s.rface energy and the crus.ing of the s.rface with fine material,which blocks.the pore s.ace of the *** a res.lt,water capacity of the biochar from the treatment with the fertilizer decreas.d compared to the biochar s.mples.collected from the s.il without the fertilizer *** radial biochar s.rfaces.of both types.of s.mples.collected from the s.il were open ves.els.filled with s.il particles.that s.ow down complete wetting and water *** treatment of the biochar s.mples.with s.rfactants.dras.ically increas.d wettability of lateral s.rface and water abs.rption capacity of control s.mples.as.compared to the s.mples.collected from the *** obtained res.lts.s.pport the idea t

s.veral cas. reports.deal with the relations.ip between hepatitis.C virus.（HCV） infection and pulmonary or he- patic s.rcoidos.s. Mos. publications.des.ribe interferon m-induced s.rcoidos.s. However, HCV infection per s. is.als. s.gges.ed to caus. s.rcoqdos.s. The pres.nt cas. report des.ribes.a cas. of biops.-verified lung and liver s.rcoidos.s.and HCV infection, and the out- come of antiviral therapy. In March 2009, a 25-year-old man pres.nted with moderately elevated liver enzymes.without any clinical s.mptoms. The patient was.pos.- tive for HCV antibodies.and HCV RNA of genotype lb. Four months.later the patient became dys.noic and pulmonary s.rcoidos.s.was.diagnos.d by lung biops. and radiography. A s.ort cours. of corticos.eroid treat- ment relieved s.mptoms. Three months.later, liver biops. s.owed noncas.ating granulomas.cons.s.ing of epithelioid his.iocytes.and giant cells.with a s.all amount of peripheral lymphocyte infiltration, without any s.gns.of fibros.s. Chronic HCV infection with co- exis.ence of pulmonary and hepatic s.rcoidos.s.was.diagnos.d. Antiviral therapy with peginterferon ~ and ribavirin at s.andard dos.s.was.s.arted, which las.ed 48 wk, and s.s.ained viral res.ons. was.achieved. A s.cond liver biops. s.owed dis.ppearance of granulo- mas.and ches. radiography revealed normalization of medias.inal and perihilar glands. The hypothes.s.that HCV infection pers. may have triggered s.s.emic s.r- coidos.s.was.propos.d. s.cces.ful treatment of HCV infection led to continuous.remis.ion of pulmonary and hepatic s.rcoidos.s. Further s.udies.are required to un- ders.and the relations.ip between s.s.emic s.rcoidos.s.and HCV infection.

Anaerobic diges.ion is.a proces. that is.widely us.d for the treatment of organic was.es. The diges.ate can be us.d as.a s.il amendment or crop fertilis.r. The aims.of our work were to evaluate 1) the phys.cochemical compos.tion and pathogen content in a diges.ate from poultry manure, according to international regulations. and 2) the effect of its.s.il application on the major chemical and biological s.il properties.and on the growth of Lactuca s.tiva. The experiment cons.s.ed of two groups.of pots.with and without crop). Treatments.applied to each group were as.follows. low and high dos.s.of diges.ate and inorganic fertilis.r, and no application(control)(low dos.: 70 kg nitrogen(N) ha^(-1) and 21 kg phos.horus.P) ha^(-1); high dos.: 210 kg N ha^(-1) and 63 kg P ha^(-1)). s.il s.mples.were taken 7 and 34 d(harves.) after treatment applications. Heavy metal and pathogen contents.in the diges.ate were below the upper limit values. Des.ite the high pH and electrical conductivity values.of the diges.ate, both s.il parameters.pres.nted acceptable values.for crop growth. Although there were no initial increas.s.in total inorganic N and available P in s.il with diges.ate application, an increas. in the fres. weight of crop was.obs.rved with the high dos. application. This.is.probably as.ociated with the s.ow nutrient releas. from the diges.ate during the development of the crop. Changes.in the microbial community were temporary and occurred at the initial s.mpling s.age of the experiment.
