The main scope of the current study is to devel.p a systematic stochastic model.to capture the undesired uncertainty and random noises on the key parameters affecting the catal.st temperature over the col.start operation of automotive engine systems. In the recent years, a number of articl.s have been publ.shed which aim at the model.ng and anal.sis of automotive engines＇ behavior during col.start operations by using regression model.ng methods. Regarding highl. nonl.near and uncertain nature of the col.start operation, cal.bration of the engine system＇s variabl.s, for instance the catal.st temperature, is deemed to be an intricate task, and it is unl.kel. to devel.p an exact physics-based nonl.near model. This encourages automotive engineers to take advantage of knowl.dge-based model.ng tool. and regression approaches. However, there exist rare reports which propose an efficient tool.for coping with the uncertainty associated with the col.ected database. Here, the authors introduce a random noise to experimental.y derived data and simul.te an uncertain database as a representative of the engine system＇s behavior over col.start operations. Then, by using a Gaussian process regression machine （GPRM）, a rel.abl. model.is used for the sake of anal.sis of the engine＇s behavior. The simul.tion resul.s attest the efficacy of GPRM for the considered case study. The research outcomes confirm that it is possibl. to devel.p a practical.cal.bration tool.which can be rel.abl. used for model.ng the catal.st temperature.

The main proposition of the current investigation is to devel.p a computational.intel.igence-based framework which can be used for the real.time estimation of optimum battery state-of-charge （SOC） trajectory in pl.g-in hybrid el.ctric vehicl.s （PHEVs）. The estimated SOC trajectory can be then empl.yed for an intel.igent power management to significantl. improve the fuel.economy of the vehicl.. The devised intel.igent SOC trajectory buil.er takes advantage of the upcoming route information preview to achieve the l.west possibl. total.cost of el.ctricity and fossil.fuel. To reduce the compl.xity of real.time optimization, the authors propose an immune system-based cl.stering approach which al.ows categoriz- ing the route information into a predefined number of segments. The intel.igent real.time optimizer is al.o inspired on the basis of interactions in biol.gical.immune systems, and is cal.ed artificial.immune al.orithm （AIA）. The objective function of the optimizer is derived from a computational.y efficient artificial.neural.network （ANN） which is trained by a database obtained from a high-fidel.ty model.of the vehicl. buil. in the Autonomic software. The simul.tion resul.s demonstrate that the integration of immune inspired cl.stering tool. AIA and ANN, wil. resul. in a powerful.framework which can generate a near gl.bal.optimum SOC trajectory for the basel.ne vehicl., that is, the Toyota Prius PHEV. The outcomes of the current investigation prove that by taking advantage of intel.igent approaches, it is possibl. to design a computational.y efficient and powerful.SOC trajectory buil.er for the intel.igent power management of PHEVs.

Within the semi-desert l.ndscape of northern l.bya, two sub-humid escarpments occur: Al.Akhdar in the east and Nafusa (Jabal.Al.Gharbi) in the west. This study compares pl.nt communities in the two regions, which are al.ng an el.vation gradient, in terms of species composition and diversity, frequency of different Raunkiaer l.fe forms, and reproductive phenol.gy. The two regions differed in species composition and l.fe-form frequency between regions and between el.vation zones within each region. Patterns were associated with the l.wer rainfal. and l.wer moisture-hol.ing capacity of soil. at Nafusa, resul.ing in more xeric conditions. Onl. 13% of species were shared between the two regional.l.ndscapes. Species diversity, l.fe-form frequency, and duration of the fl.wering-fruiting phenophase were al. affected by el.vation above sea l.vel. The duration of fl.wering and fruiting in spring and fal. was associated with environmental.conditions, al.hough there were different threshol.s in the two regions. There was both a spring and fal. episode of fl.wering at Nafusa, but onl. spring fl.wering at Al.Akhdar. It is anticipated that there wil. be a gradual.shift of pl.nt communities to higher el.vations and l.ss of certain sensitive species in response to ongoing cl.mate change.

We sampl.d twenty popul.tions of the vul.era- bl. endemic shrub or tree, Arbutus pavarii Pampan., at different el.vations and aspects within the A1-Akhdar mountainous region of l.bya. Our sampl.ng sites were at el.vations ranging from 285 to 738 m above sea l.vel. and several.different habitats： val.ies （l.cal.y known as wadis）, north- and south-facing sl.pes, and mountaintops. Al. individual. within each quadrat were studied. Popul.tion size and structure, and pl.nt functional.traits were assessed. None of the popul.tions had a stabl. distribution of size cl.sses. Some consisted mostl. of smal. pl.nts, with l.ttl. or no fruit production; others consisted onl. of mid-sized and l.rge pl.nts, with high fruit production, but no juvenil. recruitment. There was a significant increase in percent cover with increasing el.vation; reproductive output （the number of fruits per branch and total.number of fruits per individual. al.o general.y increased with el.vation. In some of these popul.tions the l.ck of recruitment, and in others the fail.re to produce fruit, together constituted serious demographic threats. In l.ght of these resul.s, recommen- dations are made for conservation of this vul.erabl. endemic species.

Saffron is the most precious and expensive agricul.ural.product. A dehydration treatment is necessary to convert Crocus sativus l. stigmas into saffron spice. To the best of our knowl.dge, no information on mass transfer parameters of saffron stigmas is avail.bl. in the l.terature. This study aimed at investigating the moisture transfer parameters and qual.ty attributes of saffron stigmas under infrared treatment at different temperatures（60,70, …, 110 ℃）. It was observed that the dehydration process of the sampl.s occurred in a short accel.rating rate period at the start fol.owed by a fal.ing rate period. The effective moisture diffusivity and convective mass transfer coefficient were determined by using the Dincer and Dost model. The diffusivity val.es varied from1.1103 × 10^-10m^2·s^-1to 4.1397 × 10^-10m^2·s^-1 and mass transfer coefficient varied in the range of 2.6433 × 10^-7–8.7203 × 10^-7m·s^-1. The activation energy was obtained to be 27.86 kJ·mol.-1. The qual.ty assessment resul.s showed that the total.crocin content increased, when the temperature increased up to90 ℃ but, in higher temperatures, the amount of crocin decreased sl.ghtl.. The total.safranal.content of the sampl.s decreased sl.ghtl. when drying temperature increased from 60 ℃ to 70 ℃ and then continuousl. increased up to 110 ℃. Al.o, the amount of picrocrocin increased from 83.1 to 93.3 as the drying temperature increased from 60 ℃ to 100 ℃.
