Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review

Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. all the available information was compiled from electronic databases such as Academic Journals, Ethnobotany, Google Scholar, PubM ed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and library search.

Uniform modeling of parameter dependent nonlinear systems

This paper addresses the problem of approximating parameter dependent nonlinear systems in a unified framework. This modeling has been presented for the first time in the form of parameter dependent piecewise affine systems. In this model, the matrices and vectors defining piecewise affine systems are affine functions of parameters. Modeling of the system is done based on distinct spaces of state and parameter, and the operating regions are partitioned into the sections that we call 'multiplied simplices'. It is proven that this method of partitioning leads to less complexity of the approximated model compared with the few existing methods for modeling of parameter dependent nonlinear systems. It is also proven that the approximation is continuous for continuous functions and can be arbitrarily close to the original one. Next, the approximation error is calculated for a special class of parameter dependent nonlinear systems. For this class of systems, by solving an optimization problem, the operating regions can be partitioned into the minimum number of hyper-rectangles such that the modeling error does not exceed a specified value. This modeling method can be the first step towards analyzing the parameter dependent nonlinear systems with a uniform method.

Investigation of CO2 solubility in monoethanolamine hydrochloride based deep eutectic solvents and physical properties measurements

Deep eutectic solvents(DESs)have drawn a growing research interest for applications in a wide range of scientific and industrial ***,a limited effort has been reported in the area of gas separation processes and particularly the carbon dioxide *** study introduces a novel set of DESs that were prepared by complexing ethylenediamine(EDA),monoethanolamine(MEA),tetraethylenepentamine(TEPA),triethylenetetramine(TETA)and diethylenetriamine(DETA)as hydrogen bond donors to monoethanolamide hydrochloride(EAHC)salt as a hydrogen bond *** absorption capacity of CO2 was evaluated by exploiting a method based on measuring the pressure drop during the absorption *** solubility of different DESs was studied at a temperature of 313.15 K and initial pressure of 0.8 *** DES systems 1 EAHC:9 DETA,1 EAHC:9 TETA and 1 EAHC:9 TEPA achieved the highest CO2 solubility of 0.6611,0.6572 and 0.7017 mol CO2·(mole DES)-1 *** results showed that CO2 solubility in the DESs increased with increasing the molar ratio of hydrogen bond *** addition,the CO2 solubility increased as the number of amine groups in the solvent increases,therefore,increasing the alkyl chain length in the DESs,resulted in increasing the CO2 *** analysis confirms the DES synthesis since no new functional group was *** FTIR spectra also revealed the carbamate formation in DES-CO2 *** addition,the densities and viscosities of the synthesized DESs were also *** CO2 initial investigation of reported DESs shows that these can be potential alternative for conventional solvents in CO2 capture processes.

Evaluation of the static and dynamic structural performance of segmental pre-stressed concrete box girder bridge after repairing and strengthening

The objectives of this study are to explain the repairing and strengthening methods which are used to improve the structural performance of the bridge structure,to analyze the static and dynamic responses after strengthening,and to evaluate the performance of the bridge structure after repairing and *** methods of repairing and strengthening include reconstruction the deck of the bridge by casting 10 cm layer of concrete,strengthening the web and bottom floor of box girders of middle spans and side spans by sticking the steel plates,strengthening the whole bridge structure by using external pre-stressing tendons,and treatment the *** results of theoretical analysis show that the values of tensile stress and vertical deflection are decreased and the compressive stress is increased after *** are not tensile stresses are appeared in the sections of the bridge *** modal analysis results show that the value of natural frequency is equal to 2.09 Hz which is more than the values before strengthening which is equal to 1.64 Hz,indicating that the stiffness of the bridge structure is improved and the strengthening process is effective to improve the cracks resistance and bearing capacity of the bridge structure.

Solving infinite horizon nonlinear optimal control problems using an extended modal series method

This paper presents a new approach for solving a class of infinite horizon nonlinear optimal control problems (OCPs).In this approach,a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP),derived from Pontryagin's maximum principle,is transformed into a sequence of linear time-invariant *** the latter problems in a recursive manner provides the optimal control law and the optimal trajectory in the form of uniformly convergent ***,to obtain the optimal solution,only the techniques for solving linear ordinary differential equations are *** efficient algorithm is also presented,which has low computational complexity and a fast convergence *** a few iterations are required to find an accurate enough suboptimal trajectory-control pair for the nonlinear *** results not only demonstrate the efficiency,simplicity,and high accuracy of the suggested approach,but also indicate its effectiveness in practical use.

Comparison of dry reforming of methane in low temperature hybrid plasma-catalytic corona with thermal catalytic reactor over Ni/γ-al_2O_3

In the current study, the hybrid effect of a corona discharge and γ-alumina supported Ni catalysts in CO2 reforming of methane is investigated. The study includes both purely catalytic operation in the temperature range of 923-1023 K, and hybrid catalytic-plasma operation of DC corona discharge reactor at room temperature and ambient pressure. The effect of feed flow rate, discharge power and Ni/γ-al2O3 catalysts are studied. When CH4/CO2 ratio in the feed is 1/2, the syngas of low Ha/CO ratio at about 0.56 is obtained, which is a potential feedstock for synthesis of liquid hydrocarbons. although Ni catalyst is only active above 573 K, presence of Ni catalysts in the cold corona plasma reactor （T≤523 K） shows promising increase in the conversions of methane and carbon dioxide. When Ni catalysts are used in the plasma reaction, H2/CO ratios in the products are slightly modified, selectivity to CO increases whereas fewer by-products such as hydrocarbons and oxygenates are formed.

Experimental monitoring of the strengthening construction of a segmental box girder bridge and field testing of external prestressing tendons anchorage

Prestressed concrete segmental box girder bridges are composed of short concrete segments that are either precast or cast in situ and then joined together by longitudinally post-tensioning internal,external,or mixed *** objectives of this study are to monitor the construction process of the external prestressing tendons to strengthen the bridge structure and perform a field load test to measure the strain and the deflection of the anchorage devices of the external prestressing tendons to determine the state of these devices after tension forces are *** monitoring process of the external prestressing tendons construction includes inspecting the cracks in the diaphragm anchorage and the deviation block devices before the tension forces are applied to the external tendons;measuring the deformation of the steel deviation cross beam during the tension process;measuring the deformation of the box girder after different levels of tension forces are applied;measuring the elongation of the external tendons in each level of the tension;and measuring the natural frequency of the external tendons after the tension process is *** results of the monitoring process show that the measured values of the deformation,the elongation,and the natural frequency meet the ***,there is no damage during the construction and the tensioning of the external prestressing tendons.A field load test is performed to the anchorage beam,the steel deviation block devices,and the steel deviation cross *** field load test results of the anchorage devices show that the values of the strains,the stresses,and the deflection are less than the respective allowable limit values in the ***,the anchorage devices have sufficient strength,and the working state is good after the tension forces are applied to the external prestressing tendons.

Synthesis of a copolymer carrier for anticancer drug luteolin for targeting human breast cancer cells

OBJECTIVE: To focus a new chemoprevention approach that uses nanotechnology to deliver luteolin to human breast cancer cells(MCF-7), and its underlying ***: Water-soluble copolymer-encapsulated nanoparticle-luteolin(CENL) was formulated using the hydrophobic drug luteolin. The ability to load and release he anticancer drug into/from the synthesized hyperbranched polyester was evaluated by high-performance liquid *** successful synthesis of CENL was supported by analytical techniques including fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography,and dynamic light scattering. Cell viability was measured using the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide color method. Reactive oxygen species(ROS) were measured using a dichlorofluorescein probe and intracellular calcium(Cai2+) was evaluated with a flu3-AM ***: The results showed that the drug delivery system is stable and that the loading capacity is high. Treatment with nanoparticles containing luteolin and free luteolin resulted in cell death in breast cancer cells at high concentrations (IC50(33 ± 4) and(48 ± 6) μM, respectively)At high concentrations,CENL reduced cell viability and increased ROS and Cai2+ ***: Our results demonstrate that CENL has potential for human breast cancer treatment.

Monitoring of Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp. and Staphylococci in Poultry Meat-Based Fast Food in Saudi Arabia

An investigation was made to survey the possible presence of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. from fast-food shops in al-Ahsa Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), as potential reservoir of human infection and antimicrobial resistance. A total of 100 samples of shawarma poultry meat were collected from different localities of the province. Conventional, commercial VITEK 2 and molecular techniques were used for isolates’ identification and antibiogram detection. Staph aureus was isolated at a rate of 14% and CNS as Staph. sciuri and Staph. xylosus at 2%. E. coli was identified at a rate of 12% and antibiogram analysis showed 41.67% of isolates to be extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) with evidence of multi-drug resistance (MDR). Molecular analysis of E. coli revealed presence of sero-groups O1 and O2, entero-toxigenic (ETEC), shiga-toxigenic, ST540 and the prototypical ETEC strain H10407 which are potential public health hazard. Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis showed 19% prevalence while S. Typhimurium with 8% prevalence. Anti-microbial sensitivity of 15 strains of S. Enteritidis and 5 strains of S. Typhimurium showed multi-drug resistance (MDR).
