The aim of neoadjuvant treatment in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)is to eliminate micrometastatic disease to facilitate surgical *** chemotherapy(ChT)in localised NSCLC has numerous advantages over other therapeutic modalities and is considered standard treatment in resectable *** with immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICI)improves long-term survival in advanced disease and has a better toxicity profile than conventional *** immunotherapy agents(anti-PD1/PD-L1),administered with or without ChT,are currently being evaluated in the preoperative setting,with initial results showing better pathological response rates and more long-term ***,these drugs do not appear to increase the rate of severe adverse effects and/or postoperative ***,several questions still need to be resolved,including the identification of predictive biomarkers;comparative studies of immunotherapy alone vs combined treatment with ChT and/or radiotherapy;the optimal duration of treatment;the timing of surgery;the need for adjuvant treatment;appropriate radiologic evaluation and mediastinal staging;and the correlation between pathological response and survival *** we review the current evidence for immunotherapy from a multidisciplinary perspective and discuss current and future controversies.

Effect of homogenization process on the hardness of Zn-Al-Cu alloys

The effect of a homogenizing treatment on the hardness of as-cast Zn–Al–Cu alloys was investigated. Eight alloy compositions were prepared and homogenized at 350 °C for 180 h, and their Rockwell 'B' hardness was subsequently measured. All the specimens were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and metallographically prepared for observation by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results of the present work indicated that the hardness of both alloys(as-cast and homogenized) increased with increasing Al and Cu contents; this increased hardness is likely related to the presence of the θ and τ′ phases. A regression equation was obtained to determine the hardness of the homogenized alloys as a function of their chemical composition and processing parameters, such as homogenization time and temperature, used in their preparation.

Cucurbita ficifolia Bouché Regulates the Metabolism of Carbohydrates and Lipids in Liver by Activation of PPARα without Affectation on PPARγ in Vivo and in Vitro

Diabetes mellitus control in Mexico is practiced by using antidiabetic agents and, by empirical way using medicinal plants. Cucurbita ficifolia (C. ficifolia) has been attributed with hypoglycemic, hypotriglyceridemic, and anti-inflam- matory effects, and D-chiro-inositol (DCI), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and β-sitosterol were proposed as active principles. The last two compounds were suggested as activators of two transcription factors, PPARα and PPARγ, in C2C12 myocytes, which participate in β-oxidation of fatty acids and insulin sensitivity. However, the involvement of the hepatocytic and adipocytic PPARs in the effects of C. ficifolia has not yet been explored. This research aimed to determine the effects of C. ficifolia on PPARα, PPARγ, and inflammatory cytokines in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mice, HepG2 hepatocytes and 3T3-L1 adipocytes, implicating two additional cell types associated with metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids. STZ-induced diabetes mice received C. ficifolia (200 mg/kg/day) for 30 days, measuring serum cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6). RNA was extracted from liver. Besides, HepG2 and 3T3-L1 cells were incubated (24 h) with C. ficifolia (0.078 mM DCI), using pioglitazone or fenofibrate as controls. RNA was also extracted from cells and PCR in real-time was performed to determinate PPARα and PPARγ expression. In diabetic animals, C. ficifolia decreased glycemia and body weight, decreasing the expression level of TNF-α and IL-6. In addition, C. ficifolia increased PPARα expression in liver of diabetic animals, in HepG2 and 3T3-L1 cells;PPARγ expression only significantly increased in HepG2 cells. The data suggest that the effects on the glycemia and lipids of C. ficifolia and its anti-inflammatory effects imply, besides skeletal muscle cells, hepatic and adipocytic PPARα activation, without affectation on PPARγ. Culture Mixed-Sex and Monosex of Tilapia in Ponds in Mexico City

In this study, the growth of Oreochromis niloticus both mixed sex and males sexually reversed were analyzed in concrete ponds in the FES Zaragoza, UNAM, under the environmental conditions of the Mexico City. The experiment was carried from May to November 2013, in two concrete ponds of 50 m2. Similar feeding regime and stocking density of fish were maintained for the culture systems. Different growth parameters like body weight, length, daily weight gain (DWG), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion rate (FCR), Fulton’s condition index (K) and survival were analyzed during six months culture period. It was found that culture with monosex males tilapias yielded the highest weight, length, DWG and SGR compared to mixed sex populations tilapias. Water quality was monitored along the experiment. Based on the results, there were statistically significant differences in size (W = 20942.5, p 5 mg/L), warm water (>20°C), productive (3) and slightly basic (pH > 8). Acceptable growth of fish and a yield of 3 ton/ha/6 months were obtained in both two ponds;therefore, the culture of tilapia under conditions of Mexico City was recommended.

The nineteenth century’s quest for the missing matter (Vulcan) ended with the publication of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. We contend that the current quest for the missing matter is parallel in its perseverance and in its ultimate futility. After setting the search for dark matter in its historic perspective, we critique extant dark matter models and offer alternative explanations—derived from a Lorentz-invariant Lagrangian—that will, at the very least, sow seeds of doubt about the existence of dark matter.

Synthesis of Tantalum Hydride Using Mechanical Milling and Its Characterization by XRD,SEM,and TGA

In this paper, we report the results obtained from different phases of metal hydrides. The synthesis and characterization of tantalum hydrides were obtained “in situ” during mechanical milling. Elemental Ta with purity of 99.8% was used in this investigation to obtain the hydrides. A highenergy ball milling technique was utilized to prepare hydrogenated phases. Ta hydrides and oxides were formed as function of milling process time. Milling times of 5, 10 and 20 hours were programmed, and the ball-to-powder weight ratio was 10:1. The material was first characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Before and after hydrogenation process the material was also analyzed by TGA. X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrated that only tantalum hydrides (Ta2H and TaH0.5) were obtained after 20 h of milling. We will discuss the effect of the ball-milling process about formation “in situ” of nanometric tantalum hydrides with methanol as a hydrogen source.

Modifications of L-Glutamine and L-Leucine Transport in Proliferating Lymphocytes

Lymphocytes respond to mitogens that stimulate proliferation by increasing theirs metabolic activity. In this study we investigate L-Glutamine and L-Leucine uptake as markers of cell response to Concavalina A (ConcaA) stimulation, using a high-resolution flow technique. We found that lymphocytes induced to blast transformation enhanced rate and efficiency of amino acid uptake during cell proliferation. Considering that increases in transport is the first quantifiable response of cells during malignant transformation, amino acid uptake could also be useful as an early marker of malignancy.

A New Path to Create Solutions for Quantum Annealing Problems

Quantum computing has already become a technology to be used by large companies in finance, distribution, health care, chemistry, etc. Among the different approaches, quantum annealing is one of the most promising in the short term. However, software development platforms do not offer user-friendly interfaces for the definition of annealing problems. In this paper we present a solution to this problem: QPath®’s Annealer Compositor that facilitates the definition and execution of annealing algorithms in either quantum annealing or digital annealing computers. An example based on a nurse work schedule is used for illustrating this special interface.
