Recent advances in effective antimicrobial prophylactic strategies have led to a decline in the incidence of opportunistic infections in liver transplant recipients. However, morbidity and mortality due to infectious diseases remain as major problems. Bacterial infections occurring early after transplant are mainly related to the technical aspects of the procedure. By contrast, after the first postoperative days and beyond, the nature and variety of infectious complications change. Opportunistic bacterial infections are uncommon after 6 mo in patients receiving stable and reduced maintenance doses of immunosuppression with good graft function and little is documented about these cases in the literature. Transplant recipients may be more susceptible to some pathogens, such as the Nocardia species, Legionella species, Listeria monocytogenes , Mycoplasma species, Salmonella species or Rhodococcus equi. Respiratory infections due to capsulated bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus inf uenza, can be life- threatening if not promptly treated in this population. These late bacterial infections may be very diffi cult to recognize and treat in this population. In this article, we review what has been described in the literature with regards to late bacterial infections following liver transplantation.

The current study investigated a triad,which comprises of adipose tissue derived stem cells isolated from infrapatellar fat pad and gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)-based matrix with exclusive ascorbic acid ***,the bio-mechanical properties of the gelatin–PVA blended scaffolds in wet condition are equivalent to the ECM of soft tissues in general,in this study,the triad was tested as a model for neural tissue *** from being cytocompatible and biocompatible,the porosity of the scaffold has been designed in such a manner that it facilitates the cell signalling and enables the exchange of nutrients and *** highly proliferative stem cells from Passage 2 were characterized using both,mesenchymal and embryonic stem cell *** an initial exploration the mesenchymal stem cells at Passage 4 were exposed to ascorbic acid and basic fibroblast growth factor signalling for neuronal differentiation in 2D environment *** MSCs successfully differentiated and acquired neuron specific markers related to cytoskeleton and ***,three phases of experiments have been conducted on the 3D gelatin/PVA matrix to prove their efficacy,the growth of stem cells,growth of differentiated neurons and the in situ growth and differentiation of *** scaffold was conducive and directed MSCs to neuronal lineage under specific ***,this organotypic model triad could open a new avenue in the field of soft tissue engineering as a simple and effective tissue construct.

Utility of the“RMSSD-Slope”to Assess the Internal Load in Different Sports Situations

The control of training load has become a very interesting field for investigation in sports, but few tools are used to assess internal training load (ITL). The aim of this study is to use a post-exercise analysis methodology in different athletes and situations to establish its utility and reliability as a measure of ITL. In a retrospective review, we analysed 112 measurements of 74 subjects (38 men and 36 women) grouped in: University students (UNI);national team (FUTSAL 1);university team (FUTSAL 2);athletes (ATL);badminton players (BADM). Measures of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) were made with a Polar V800 with a thoracic band H10, during 5 minutes in a seated position after exercise. We calculated the Root Mean Square of the successive differences between adjacent RR intervals (RMSSD) and its slope from exercise to recovery. Measurements from UNI, FUTSAL-2, ATL-M and ATL-F were grouped into three categories of intensity (60%, 75% and 100%). RMSSD-Slope values were lower as intensity increased but different for every subject. In the BADM and FUTSAL-1 groups, RMSSD-Slope was progressively lower after consecutive matches for every player. The RMSSD-Slope seems to be a very accurate method to assess ITL.

Objective To determine whether topical applications of thiosulfinate-enriched Allium sativum extract(TASE)can accelerate acute cutaneous wound healing(WH)in a murine *** Keratinocyte viability and in vitro wound closure were assessed in keratinocyte *** of topical TASE(0.5μg/mL of allicin in 97%ethanol)on acute cutaneous WH were determined in a murine model of acute cutaneous *** mice were alternately assigned to the vehicle-and TASE-treated groups(n=6 per group).Expression levels of mRNA for keratinocyte differentiation marker-related proteins(filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin)and lipid synthetic enzymes(elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 4(ELOVL4),fatty acid synthase(FA2H),3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase(HMGCoA),and serine palmitoyltransferase(SPT))were assessed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction on day 3 and 8 after wounding,while transepidermal water loss(TEWL)rates were measured in wounded *** TASE accelerated WH both in vivo(40%vs.22%reduction in wound area,P<0.01)and in vitro(90%vs.65%reduction in wound area,P<0.01).Moreover,topical applications of TASE upregulated the expression levels of epidermal mRNA for ELOVL4,HMGCoA,SPT,filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin(P<0.05 ***-treated controls)on day 3 after ***,TASE significantly lowered TEWL rates in comparison with vehicle alone on day 8(33.06±2.09 g/(m^2·h)vs.24.60±2.04 g/(m^2·h),P<0.01).Conclusions Topical applications of TASE stimulated keratinocyte proliferation and formation of epidermal permeability barrier function,leading to acceleration of acute cutaneous *** products containing TASE could be used to manage acute cutaneous WH.

Objective: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ataxia telangiectasiaemutated gene ATM have been linked with pneumonitis after radiotherapy for lung cancer but have not been evaluated in terms of pulmonary function impairment. Here we investigated potential associations between SNPs in ATM and changes in diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) in patients with nonesmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after radiotherapy. Methods: From November 1998 through June 2009, 448 consecutive patients with inoperable primary NSCLC underwent definitive (≥60 Gy) radiotherapy, with or without chemotherapy. After excluding patients with a history of thoracic surgery, ra-diation, or lung cancer; without DNA samples available for analysis; or without pulmonary function testing within the 12 months before and the 12 months after radiotherapy, 100 patients were identified who are the subjects of this study. We genotyped two SNPs of ATM previously found to be associated with radiation-induced pneumonitis (rs189037 and rs228590) and evaluated potential correlations between these SNPs and impairment (decreases) in DLCO by using logistic regression analysis. Results: Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the AA genotype of ATM rs189037 was associated with decreased DLCO after definitive radiotherapy than the GG/AG genotypes (univariate coefficient, -0.122; 95％ confidence interval (CI),-0.236 to -0.008; P = 0.037; and multivariate coefficient, -0.102; 95％ CI, -0.198 to -0.005; P = 0.038)No such correlations were found for rs228590 (univariate coefficient, -0.096; 95％ CI, -0.208 to 0.017; P = 0.096). Conclusions: The AA genotype of ATM rs189037 was associated with higher risk of lung injury than were the GG/AG genotypes in patients with NSCLC treated with radiotherapy. This finding should be validated prospectively with other patient populations.

Supported Ru catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation to evaluate the role of different oxide supports(Al_2O_3,SiO_2,TiO_2,ZrO_2) in sorbitol hydrogenolysis to glycols.X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,hydrogen chemisorption,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and NH3temperature-programmed desorption were used to characterize the catalysts,which were active in the hydrogenolysis of *** support affected both the physicochemical properties and catalytic behavior of the supported Ru *** characterization results revealed that the Ru/Al_2O_3catalyst has a high surface acidity,partially oxidized Ru species on the surface,and a higher surface Ru/Al atomic ratio,which gave it the highest selectivity and yield to glycols.

This study presents an investigation of the impact of the quasi-stationary voltage support provided by a voltage source converter(VSC)connected to a single point of a power *** on the directional derivative concept,an analytical method is developed to quantify the sensitivities of the AC bus voltage with respect to the VSC reactive power control *** on a real case study,it is shown that the method applies to VSC units that are part of VSC-HVDC systems,which can operate in a point-to-point or multi-terminal ***-domain simulations are performed to verify the findings from the application of the analytical method on a reduced size power system.
