Stimulation impact of electric currents on heterotrophic denitrifying microbial viability and denitrification performance in high concentration nitrate-contaminated wastewater

Electric current stimulation has been shown to have a positive influence on heterotrophic denitrifying microbial viability and has the potential to improve wastewater denitrification performance. This study investigated the effects of varying current densities on microbial activity and NO_3^- removal efficiency under heterotrophic ***_3^-removal rate was highest at an applied current density of 400 mA/m^2. However, the optimum removal efficiency of total inorganic nitrogen(TIN; 99%) was achieved when the current density was fixed at 200 m A/m^2. Accumulation of NH_4^+-N and NO_2^--N byproducts were also minimized at this current density. The activity of heterotrophic denitrifying microorganisms was much higher at both 200 and 400 mA/m^2. Moreover, the average adenosine-5′-triphosphate(ATP)content(an indicator of cell metabolism) at a current density of 1600 mA/m^2 was lower than that under no current, indicating heterotrophic denitrifying microbial activity can be inhibited at high current densities. Hence, direct electrical stimulation on the activity of heterotrophic denitrifying microorganisms in the developed system should be lower than 1600 mA/m^2. This study improves the understanding of electric current influence on heterotrophic denitrifying microorganisms and promotes the intelligent application of direct electrical stimulation on wastewater treatment processes.

Firm embedding behavior of annular grooved projectiles impacting ductile metal targets

Annular grooved projectiles(AGPs)have drawn ongoing concerns as an advanced penetrator for their excellent anti-rebound capability in impacting metal *** could become embedded solidly in the target surface during low-velocity *** this investigation,the firm embedding behavior of AGP was observed by impact *** numerical simulations provided a better understanding of this *** and numerical results indicated that the firm embedding behavior of AGP was mainly due to the filling-material in the groove rather than the friction between the projectile and target,unlike traditional shape such as conical *** to observation,firm embedding process can generally be subdivided into four stages:initial-cratering stage,groove-filling stage,fillingmaterial failure stage and rebound vibration ***,the damage mechanics of target material around crater was obtained through microscopic tests.A comparison of the cross-sectional figures between the experiment and simulation proved that the analysis and the proposed method were reasonable and feasible,which further demonstrated that the firm embedding behavior has application potential in new concept warheads.

Cell concentration,viability and culture composition of airborne bacteria during a dust event in Beijing

Airborne bacteria were measured when a dust storm passed Beijing in spring 2012 with a focus on cell concentration, viability and TSA- and R2A-cultured strain composition. The concentration varied at an order of 10^7 cells/m3 with dust loading （demonstrated with PM10） and they had a very close correlation （RT2 = 0.91, p 〈 0.01）. At the time of highest PM10 of 652 μg/m3, the bacterial concentration reached 1.4 × 10^8 cells/m3, which was larger than that before and after the dust event by one order. Bacterial viability, the ratio of number concentration of viable cells to total cells, was 32%-64% and smaller in the dust plume than that before the dust arrival. Bacterial strains from the culture ranged between 2.5 × 10^4 and 4.6 × 10^5 CFU/m3 and no correlation with PM10 was determined. Their composition was different before and after the dust arrival according to 16S rRNA gene sequences and strains belong to Actinomycetes and Firmicutes were the majority in the dust samples.

Design and analysis of quantized controllable doped left-handed materials

Two kinds of controllable doped left-handed materials （DLHMs） were designed by inserting inductors and capacitors into the traditional left-handed material （LHM） as heterogeneous elements respectively, which are DLHM with inductors （LDLHM） and DLHM with capacitors （CDLHM）. The characteristics of transmission spectrum were studied by using finite-difference time-domain method （FDTD）. Compared with the traditional LHM, the resonance strength of the LDLHM is weakened and the pass-band is narrowed, but with the increase of the value of the inserted inductors, the bandwidth is expanded. As capacitors inserted into the LHM, the pass-band of the CDLHM is expanded, but the pass-band is shifted to low frequency and the bandwidth is narrowed with the increase of the value of the capacitors, meanwhile, a new generated pass-band is also shifted to low frequency. Therefore, a quantized controllable doped left-handed material can be achieved.

This paper presents a comprehensive study conducted to optimize the selective laser melting(SLM)parameters and subsequent heat-treatment temperatures for near-α high-temperature titanium alloy Ti-6 Al-2 Zr-1 Mo-1 V(TA15),which is widely used in the aerospace *** on the surface morphology and relative density analysis,the optimized process parameters were:laser power from 230 W to 380 W,scan speed from 675 mm/s to 800 mm/s,scan spacing of 0.12 mm,and layer thickness of0.03 *** effects of the laser power and the layer thickness on the phase constitutions,microstructure features,as well as room-temperature and high-temperature(500℃) tensile properties,were then studied to obtain an in-depth understanding of SLM-built *** typical temperatures(650,750,850,950,1000 and 1100℃) covering three representative temperature ranges,i.e.,martensite partial decomposition temperature range,martensite complete decomposition temperature range and above βtransus temperature,were subsequently selected as heat-treatment *** heat treatmentmicrostructure-mechanical property relationships of SLM-built TA15 were elucidated in *** results provide valuable information on the development of SLM-built TA15 alloy for industrial applications,and these findings are also beneficial to additive manufacturing of other near-α Ti alloys with desirable high-temperature properties.

Self-adaptive gas flow and phase change behaviors during hydrate exploitation by alternate injection of N_(2) and CO_(2)

Since hydrate resources play a part of the stratigraphic framework structure in sediments,establishing a safe and economic method for hydrates exploitation remains the primary challenge to this *** the proposed methods,the spontaneous displacement of CH_(4) from hydrate cages by CO_(2) seems to be a perfect mechanism to address gas production and CO_(2) storage,especially in today's strong demand for carbon reduction and replacing clean *** extensive lab researches,in the past decade,injecting a mixture of CO_(2) and small molecule gas has become a key means to enhance displacement efficiency and has great potential for ***,there is a lack of in-depth research on gas flow in the reservoir,while the injected gas always passes through low-saturated hydrate areas with high permeability and then occurs gas channel in a short term,finally resulting in the decreases in gas production efficiency and produced gas ***,we explored a new injection-production mode of alternate injection of N2 and CO_(2) in order to fully coordinate the advantages of N_(2) in enhanced hydrate decomposition and CO_(2) in solid storage and heat *** alternate"taking"and"storing"processes perfectly repair the problem of the gas channel,achieving self-regulation effect of CH_(4) recovery and CO_(2) *** 3-D experimental results show that compared to the mixed gas injection,CH_(4) recovery is increased by>50%and CO_(2) storage is increased by>70%.Additionally,this alternate injection mode presented a better performance in CH_(4) concentration of produced gas and showed outstanding N_(2) utilization ***,we analyzed its self-adaptive gas flow mechanism and proposed an application model of"one injection and multiple production".We look forward to this study accelerating the application of CO_(2)-CH_(4) replacement technology.

Facile production of ultrathin graphitic carbon nitride nanoplatelets for efficient visible-light water splitting

Ultrathin graphitic carbon nitride nanoplatelets （UGCNPs） are synthesized by a facile manner via an efficient and eco-friendly ball milling approach. The obtained UGCNPs are 2-6 nm in size and 0.35-0.7 nm in thickness, with improved specific surface area over that of bulk graphitic carbon nitride. Photochemical experiments show that the UGCNPs are highly active in visible-light water splitting, with a hydrogen evolution rate of 1,365 μmol·h^-1·g^-1, which is 13.7-fold greater than that of their bulk counterparts. The notable improvement in the hydrogen evolution rate observed with UGCNPs under visible light is due to the synergistic effects derived from the increased specific surface area, reduced thickness, and a negative shift in the conduction band concomitant with the exfoliation of bulk graphitic carbon nitride into UGCNPs. In addition to metal- free visible-light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production, the UGCNPs find attractive applications in biomedical imaging and optoelectronics because of their superior luminescence characteristics.

A quantitative analysis method for contact force of mechanism with a clearance joint based on entropy weight and its application in a six-bar mechanism
