Geochemical characteristics of natural gases and source rocks in Obayied sub-basin,north Western Desert,Egypt:implications for gas-source correlation

Western Desert represents a major oil and gas province in Egypt producing more than 50%of the country’s oil *** and gas blend occurs in most producing fields,however,the genetic link between gas and liquid hydrocarbon phases are not *** sub-basin in the Western Desert where oil and gas phases coexist in the Middle Jurassic sandstones of the Khatatba Formation provides an ideal place to investigate the link between oil and gas *** analyses on rock samples(Rock–Eval pyrolysis,vitrinite reflectance,R_(o))and gases(molecular and isotopic composition)were conducted in order to identify the genetic characteristics of the hydrocarbon phases ***-relevant parameters(Rock–Eval T_(max),vitrinite reflectance R_(o))elucidate that only Middle Jurassic Khatatba organofacies capable of generating wet and dry hydrocarbon ***,the enrichment of C_(7)normal alkanes,mono-branched alkanes relative to polybranched components in the Obayied gases reflect their generation via cracking of *** modelling results confirm gas generation through both primary and secondary ***,secondary cracking of liquid hydrocarbon phases is volumetrically more *** cracking of the Khatatba organofacies likely predate and catalyze the secondary cracking of the liquid phases and therefore the volume of generated gas increases incrementally eastward where both processes *** present study highlights the significant role of secondary cracking in the generation and accumulation of huge gas accumulations in the basins containing oil-prone source intervals.

A bend-free rectangular cross-section OWC device was designed and constructed for studying the effect of inclination on the flow characteristics inside the *** inclination is meant to reduce reflection of waves and induce higher velocities in the turbine *** measurements were made in a wave channel where the OWC device was *** S-type Pitot tube was used to measure dynamic pressure of air in the turbine section at several *** Image Velocimetry(PIV)was also done to study the flow of both air and water in the OWC *** order to focus solely on primary energy capture,no turbine was installed in the OWC *** dynamic pressure readings were analysed for suction and compression *** volume fluctuations inside the capture chamber were also recorded and compared for different *** result was an increase in the velocity of air flowing in the capture chamber and hence a rise in the kinetic energy available to the *** was found from experimental studies that as the angle of inclination reduced,the velocity of air in the turbine section *** lower angles also caused higher run-up and larger volume of water into the capture chamber.

Hepatoprotective activity of Sapindus mukorossi and Rheum emodi extracts: In vitro and in vivo studies

AIM: To study the hepatoprotective capacity of Sapindus mukorossi (S. mukorossi) and Rheum emodi (R. emodi) extracts in CCl4 treated male rats. METHODS: The dried powder of S. mukorossi and R. emodi was extracted successively with petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, and ethanol and concentrated in vacuum. Primary rat hepatocyte monolayer cultures were used for in vitro studies. In vivo, the hepatoprotective capacity of the extract of the fruit pericarp of S. mukorossi and the rhizomes of R. emodi was analyzed in liver injured CCl4-treated male rats. RESULTS: In vitro: primary hepatocytes monolayer cultures were treated with CCl4 and extracts of S. mukorossi & R. emodi. A protective activity could be demonstrated in the CCl4 damaged primary monolayer culture. In vivo : extracts of the fruit pericarp of S. mukorossi (2.5 mg/mL) and rhizomes of R. emodi (3.0 mg/mL) were found to have protective properties in rats with CCl4 induced liver damage as judged from serum marker enzyme activities. CONCLUSION: The extracts of S. mukorossi and R. emodi do have a protective capacity both in vitro on primary hepatocytes cultures and in in vivo in a rat model of CCl4 mediated liver injury.

Flue gas heat loss accounts for a significant component of theoverall heat loss for coal-fired boilers in power plants. The flue gas absorbsmore heat as the exhaust gas temperature rises, which reduces boiler efficiencyand raises coal consumption. Additionally, if the exhaust gas temperatureis too high, a lot of water must be used to cool the flue gas for the wetflue gas desulfurization system to function well, which has an impact onthe power plant’s ability to operate profitably. It is consequently vital totake steps to lower exhaust gas temperatures in order to increase boilerefficiency and decrease the amount of coal and water used. Desulfurizationperformance may be enhanced and water use can be decreased by reasonableflue gas characteristics at the entry. This study analyzed the unit’s energyconsumption, investment, and coal savings while proposing four couplingstrategies for regulating flue gas temperature and waste heat recovery. Agraded flue gas conditioning and waste heat recovery plan was presentedunder the condition of ensuring high desulfurization efficiency, along withthe notion of minimizing energy loss owing to energy inflow temperaturedifference. Numerical results show that the proposed methods improved thesystem performance and reduced the water consumption and regulated theboiler temperature.

Could ketamine be the answer to treating treatment-resistant major depressive disorder?

Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a common,serious,debilitating condition affecting 350 million people worldwide,which remains to be unsatisfactorily treated with 53%of patients still complaining of symptoms after completing their courses with the correct ***,which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2019,is a potential treatment option for those recalcitrant *** mechanism of ketamine is not fully understood,but as type it is classified as an N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)glutamate receptor antagonist,and can be given intravenously,intranasally and *** is used to treat treatment-resistant depression,depression associated with suicidal ideation,mood and anxiety disorders and depressions associated with either type of bipolar *** ketamine is considered relatively safe,several side effects have been reported with the major ones being psychiatric in the form of worsening mood,anxiety and agitation;psychotomimetic in the form of dissociation,perceptual disturbance and abnormal sensations;cardiovascular in the form of increased blood pressure and increased heart rate;and neurological in the form of headache and *** is still not approved worldwide for usage in patients with treatment-resistant MDD,but if it is approved sometime in the future with relatively fewer side effects,it is expected to significantly save millions of dollars spent yearly on patients with treatment-resistant depression and that will lift this major burden off the shoulders of healthcare *** study was designed to measure the effects of ketamine,an NMDA receptor antagonist,on patients with treatment-resistant MDD and to analyse the concept that makes it different and relatively safer than other major antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors,monoamine oxidase inhibitors and TCAs(tricyclic antidepressants).

Utilization of low quality water of mountain reservoirs: a case study from Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Oman

Al Jabal al Akhdar(Green Mountain) in arid northern Oman has freshwater resources that had supported small communities for hundreds of years. Jabal Akhdar receives more rainfall(300-400 mm) when compared to the desert plains. In the last few years, this region had undergone enormous changes due to rapid development. The resident and transient populations have increased and their activities exert severe stress on the water resources. There are 24 retention reservoirs in the area, but most are eutrophic and the nutrient loading is due to input of animal fecal matter via surface run-off. As expected, these waters contaminated with coliform bacteria and some have pathogenic Escherichia coli. Drinking water needs of all the villages met by groundwater extraction. Because of poor quality, the surface water in the reservoirs is under-utilized. A low-cost lowmaintenance treatment system designed, constructed and operated in one village to clean the reservoir water for non-drinking human use. The treatment unit improved the water quality parameters. A survey among the adult male population of the village showed their eagerness to adopt this system and use the treated reservoir water for uses other than agriculture. Establishment of these treatment units in other villages should reduce the pressures on groundwater extraction.

Reliability Analysis of HEE Parameters via Progressive Type-II Censoring with Applications

A new extended exponential lifetime model called Harris extended-exponential(HEE)distribution for data modelling with increasing and decreasing hazard rate shapes has been *** the reliability context,researchers prefer to use censoring plans to collect data in order to achieve a compromise between total test time and/or test sample ***,this study considers both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimates of the Harris extended-exponential distribution parameters and some of its reliability indices using a progressive Type-II censoring *** the premise of independent gamma priors,the Bayesian estimation is created using the squared-error and general entropy loss *** to the challenging form of the joint posterior distribution,to evaluate the Bayes estimates,samples from the full conditional distributions are generated using Markov Chain Monte Carlo *** each unknown parameter,the highest posterior density credible intervals and asymptotic confidence intervals are also *** a simulated study,the usefulness of the various suggested strategies is *** optimal progressive censoring plans are also shown,and various optimality criteria are *** actual data sets,taken from engineering and veterinary medicine areas,are analyzed to show how the offered point and interval estimators can be used in practice and to verify that the proposed model furnishes a good fit than other lifetimemodels:alpha power exponential,generalized-exponential,Nadarajah-Haghighi,Weibull,Lomax,gamma and exponential *** evaluations revealed that in the presence of progressively Type-II censored data,the Bayes estimation method against the squared-error(symmetric)loss is advised for getting the point and interval estimates of the HEE distribution.
