Techno-economic Appraisal of Biodiesel from Jatropha curcas： An Egyptian Case Study

Biodiesel （fatty acid methyl ester） has been identified as a non-toxic biodegradable alternative fuel that is obtained from renewable sources. Over the last decade, there has been increasing interest in producing biodiesel from conventional sources such as soybean, canola, sunflower, and coconut oils. Current efforts are directed towards the development of new non-edible resources. Among these Jatropha Curcas comes at the forefront. In Egypt, Jatropha Curcas has grown successfully using primary treated wastewater. Also, extensive R＆D efforts identified the optimum conditions for the various processing stages namely crushing, extraction, transesterification and purification. Based on the research findings, the techno-economic appraisal of biodiesel production from Jatropha Curcas is conducted. Two nominal capacities namely 8,000 and 50,000 metric tons/yr have been proposed. Several scenarios have been formulated to tak. into consideration varying productivity （3.4 to 5.8 ton fruits per 4,000 m^2 （acre）） and varying recovery rates of oil from seeds. Economic indicators including capital and production costs for the various processing stages and revenues according to current prices of oil and cak. have been obtained. The price of biodiesel that provides a simple rate of return （SRR） on investments of 10% was in the range of $0.3-0.7/liter for the different assumed scenarios which is lower than the prevailing price of biodiesel （about $1/liter） in the US. Thus, in view of experimental results and economic assumptions, there are positive prospects for the production of biodiesel from Jatropha Curcas under Egyptian conditions.

Liver transplantation(LT)provides a life-saving option for cirrhotic patients with complications and hepatocellular *** the increasing number of liver transplants performed each year,the number of LT candidates on the waitlist remains unchanged due to an imbalance between donor organ supply and the demand which increases the waitlist time and *** donor liver transplant had a great role in increasing the donor pool and shortened waitlist time for LT ***,further strategies can be implemented to increase the pool of potential donors in deceased donor LT,such as reducing the rate of organ *** hepatitis C virus(HCV)seropositive liver grafts is one of the expanded donor organ criteria.A yearly increase of hundreds of transplants is anticipated as a result of maximizing the utilization of HCV-positive organs for HCV-negative ***-acting antiviral therapy's efficacy has revolutionized the treatment of HCV infection and the use of HCV-seropositive donors in *** American Society of Transplantation advises against performing transplants from HCV-infected liver donors(D+)into HCV-negative recipient(R-)unless under Institutional Review Board-approved study rules and with full informed consent of the k.owledge gaps associated with such *** selection of patients to be transplanted with HCV-infected grafts and confirming their access to direct-acting antivirals if needed is *** and international consensuses are needed to regulate this process to ensure the maximum benefit and the least adverse events.

As no complete and comprehensive studies have been previously reported for La-doped nanocrystalline SrZrO_(3)(SZO),we researched herein a detailed investigation for pure and La-doped samples.A modified solid-state reaction process,including successive cycles of milling and sintering at high temperature,was followed to produce SZO and Sr_(0.9)La_(0.1)ZrO_(3)(SLZO)powdered *** analysis of X-ray diffractometer data predicts that the two samples exhibit orthorhombic structure with an increase in crystallite size by~25%for doped sample.A great reduction in Raman modes intensity(~60%)and an annihilation of several vibration modes were detected using Raman *** degree of ordering on the B-site was recorded to be higher in La-doped *** to ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)absorption,a decrease in the optical gap width(E_(g))from 4.40 eV to 4.21 eV was achieved by La incorporation due to the presence of additional defect states such as oxygen and Sr vacancies at the band *** process of electron-hole recombination was studied using photoluminescence(PL)*** of PL spectra yielded four emission bands:one green band,one blue band,and two violet *** intense violet emission atλ=393 nm approximately five times greater than that detected for pure SZO is realized as La^(3+)substitutes for Sr^(2+).Such property nominates SLZO for technological applications requiring highly intense violet emission,e.g.,light-emitting diodes.

Decreased apoptosis in advanced-stage/high-grade hepatocellular carcinoma complicating chronic hepatitis C is mediated through the downregulation of p21 ras

Objective and back.round： Although p21 ras has been reported to be upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma complicating chronic hepatitis C type I, p21 ras has a different role in advanced stages, as it has been found to be downregulated. The goal of this study was to investigate the status of p21 ras in early-stage/low-grade and late-stage/high-grade hepatocellular carcinoma and its possible link.to apoptosis. Material and methods： Thirty-five cases each of chronic HCV hepatitis type 4 （group I） and cirrhosis with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） complicating chronic HCV hepatitis （groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ） were immunohistochemically evaluated using a p21 ras polyclonal antibody. The apoptotic index was determined in histologic sections using the terminal deoxynncleotidyl transferase-mediated d-UTP biotin nick.end labeling （TUNEL） assay. Results： Significant differences （P=0.001） were detected in p21 ras protein expression between the three groups. A near 2-fold increase in p21 ras staining was observed in the cirrhotic cases compared to the hepatitis cases, and p21 ras expression was decreased in the HCC group, p21 ras expression correlated with stage （r=0.64, P--0.001） and grade （r=-0.65, P=0.001） in the HCC group and grade in the HCV group （r=0.44, P=0.008）. Both p21 ras expression and TUNEL-LI were significantly lower in large HCCs compared to small HCCs （P=0.01 each）. The TUNEL values were negatively correlated with stage in the HCC group （r=-0.85, P=0.001）. The TUNEL values were also negatively correlated with grade in both the HCV and HCC groups （r=0.89, P=0.001 and r=0.53, P=0.001, respectively）. The p21 ras scores were significantly correlated with the TUNEL-LI values in the HCC group （r=0.63, P=0.001） and HCV group （r=0.88, P=0.001）. Conclusions： p21 ras acts as an initiator in HCC complicating type 4 chronic HCV and is downregulated with HCC progression, which most lik.ly promotes tumor cell survival because it facilitates the downregulation of apoptosis with tumor

Prevalence of enteric pathogen-associated community gastroenteritis among k.ndergarten children in Gaza

Gastroenteritis is considered as one of the leading causes of illness and death in children under 5 years age, especially in developing countries. It is one of the major public health problems among childhood in Gaza strip, Palestine. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of enteric pathogen-associated community gastro- enteritis among k.ndergarten children in Gaza. A total of 150 stool samples were collected and investigated for parasitic, viral and bacterial pathogens at Al Azhar microbiology laboratories by using standard microbiological and serological procedures. Out of the 150 study samples, the overall percentage of positive stool samples with a k.own enteric pathogen was 60.6%. The prevalence of different enteric pathogens causing community gastroenteritis among symptomatic cases （88.5%） was significantly higher than the prevalence in asymptomatic carriage （11.1%）. The most prevalent isolated enteric pathogens were Entamoeba histolytica （28.0%） and Giardia lamblia （26.7%）. Rotavirus was found in 3.1% of symptomatic cases but not detected in asymptomatic carriage. However, adenovirus type 40 and 41 were not detected in any of the study samples. The bacterial enteric pathogens Shigella and Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157：H7 （EHEC） have comparable occurrence as rotavirus （3.1%）, meanwhile, Salmonella was not isolated. Mixed infection with more than 1 pathogen was found （11.4%） only among symptomatic cases. Children aged 3-year-old showed the highest prevalence of community gastroenteritis. This study demonstrates a high prevalence of parasitic enteropathogens and a relatively low prevalence of bacterial and viral enteropathogens among k.ndergarten children living in Gaza city, moreover, children aged 3 years old showed the highest prevalence of isolated enteropathogens.

Characteristics and outcome of newborn admitted with acute bilirubin encephalopathy to a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit

Back.round Acute bilirubin encephalopathy (ABE) still represents a significant cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world,especially in developing *** aimed to determine the prevalence of ABE based on the Johnson bilirubininduced neurologic dysfunction (BIND) score and to describe the discharge *** We prospectively studied all newborns ≥ 35 week. with ABE by evaluating signs of mental sensorium,muscle tone,and cry patterns over 1 *** 12% (81 out of 674) of the newborns admitted for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia had a BIND score > *** admission age was 6 ± 4.1 days;total serum bilirubin (TSB) was 31.2± 10 mg/dL (range 17.5-75.2).Of these newborns,40.7% and 21% had evidence of haemolysis and sepsis,*** mortality was 9.9%;58% of the newborns showed signs of mild-to-moderate BIND at discharge,while 32.1% survived with an apparently normal *** BIND score was significantly correlated with admission TSB (r=0.476,P < 0.001).Similarly,BIND score at discharge was correlated with admission TSB (r=0.442,P < 0.001) and admission BIND score (r =0.888,P < 0.001).The regression model showed that admission TSB (P < 0.001) and maternal illiteracy (P =0.034) were predictors of the BIND score at admission,while admission BIND score was the best indicator of the discharge score (P < 0.001).Conclusions ABE is still a major problem in our *** TSB and maternal illiteracy are good predictors of bilirubin encephalopathy at admission and discharge.

k.-67 as a prognostic mark.r according to breast cancer molecular subtype

Objective: k.-67 plays an important function in cell division, but its exact role is still unk.own. Moreover, few work. regarding its overall function were published. The present study evaluated the clinical significance of k.-67 index as a prognostic mark.r and predictor of recurrence in different molecular subtypes of breast cancer. The relationship of k.-67 index with different clinicopathological factors was also ***: k.-67 index was measured in 107 cases of primary breast cancer from 2010-2012. These patients were evaluated for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2. k.-67 was divided according to percentage levels: 15%. Followup ranged from 32 months up to 6 ***: Approximately 44, 23, 15, and 25 cases were grouped as luminal A, luminal B, HER2 subtype, and triple-negative(TN),respectively. No luminal A patients showed k.-67 level higher than 15%, and their recurrence was 20%. In luminal B group, k.-67 level higher than 15% was observed in 69% of patients, and recurrence was 39%. In HER2 subtype, k.-67 was higher than 15% in34% of cases, and recurrence was 40%. In triple-negative cases, k.-67 was higher than 15% in 60% of cases, and recurrence was detected in 32% of patients. Patients with k.-67 less than 15% displayed better overall survival than those with k.-67 higher than15%(P = 0.01). Patients with k.-67 higher than 15% exhibited higher incidence of metastasis and recurrence than those with k.-67 less than 15%(P = 0.000).Conclusions: k.-67 may be considered as a valuable biomark.r in breast cancer patients.
