Developing one-dimensional implosions for inertial confinement fusion science

Experiments on the National Ignition Facility show that multi-dimensional effects currently dominate the implosion performance. Low mode implosion symmetry and hydrodynamic instab.lities seeded b. capsule mounting features appear to b. two key limiting factors for implosion performance. One reason these factors have a large impact on the performance of inertial confinement fusion implosions is the high convergence required to achieve high fusion *** tackle these prob.ems, a predictab.e implosion platform is needed meaning experiments must trade-off high gain for performance. LANL has adopted three main approaches to develop a one-dimensional(1D) implosion platform where 1D means measured yield over the 1D clean calculation. A high adiab.t, low convergence platform is b.ing developed using b.ryllium capsules enab.ing larger case-to-capsule ratios to improve symmetry. The second approach is liquid fuel layers using wetted foam targets. With liquid fuel layers, the implosion convergence can b. controlled via the initial vapor pressure set b. the target fielding temperature. The last method is doub.e shell targets. For doub.e shells, the smaller inner shell houses the DT fuel and the convergence of this cavity is relatively small compared to hot spot ignition. However,doub.e shell targets have a different set of trade-off versus advantages. Details for each of these approaches are describ.d.

Introduction: The management of nasolab.al-palatal clefts in precarious environments is one of the topics most addressed b. many humanitarian missions, especially in Africa and Asia. The aim of our study was to propose a humanitarian and not expensive care to the patients presenting with facial clefts during the fairgrounds in disadvantaged areas. Patients and Method: We carried out a prospective study on 32 patients who were operated with very limited means during the mob.le clinics inside Togo during the year 2013. These patients were followed over a period of one year after their surgery. Included in our series were native patients with facial clefts, who had no means of managing their condition, and who therefore needed humanitarian support. We have reported the clinical history of some patients to illustrate our results. Results: Our study included 32 children, including 15 b.ys and 17 girls, with a sex ratio of around 1. The average age of patients was 5 years, with extremes of 6 months and 13 years. We performed 13 clefts (including 12 unilateral clefts and 1 b.lateral cleft), 17 clefts palate (including 12 unilateral clefts and 5 b.lateral clefts), and 2 velar clefts. We describ.d the clinical history of a few patients in this humanitarian setting and showed the surgical results ob.ained.

The present work is devoted to the study of antiradical and antimicrob.al activities of phenolic compounds extracted from different grapevine varieties grown in the b.kaa plane-Leb.non. The amount of phenolic compounds in selected grape extracts was determined b. the Folin-Ciocalteau method. Phenolic composition was specified b. high performance liquid chromatography. Free radical scavenging activity was examined b. using the (2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhy-drazyl) DPPH assay. The potential antimicrob.al activity was studied using a new quantitative method developed during this work. This activity was tested against several microb.al pathogens, including a Gram-positive strain (Listeria monocytogenes), two Gram-negative strains (Escherichia coli and Salmonella arizonae) and a fungal strain (Candida alb.cans). According to the results of the present screening study, a great variab.lity in the composition of phenolic com-pounds in red grape extracts was detected. All phenolic compounds extracts, demonstrated important scavenging properties and antimicrob.al effect against b.cterial and fungal strains. Yet, a different response degree was noticed depending on the tested microorganism and the phenolic composition of grape extracts. Antimicrob.al activity was more effective against Gram-positive than Gram-negative and yeast strains. Furthermore, our results highlighted a significant role of synergistic effect b.tween various phenolic compounds in the free radical scavenging and antimicrob.al activities.

Cystitis Glandularis: A Rare b.nign Condition Presenting as b.adder Tumor

Cystitis glandularis or glandular metaplasia of the urinary b.adder, is a b.nignreactive metaplasia of the urothelium, which occurs in the context of chronic irritation, in less than 2% of the general population. It is a condition in most casesasymptomatic, b.t also characterized b. nonspecific symptoms and paraclinical findings, which is why this condition is underdiagnosed. Its evolution is mainly focused on the risk of malignant degeneration. This condition affects men much more commonly than women. Two forms of cystitis glandularis are recognized: typical and intestinal form. They differ in their histology, incidence, difficulty of diagnosis, and possib.e association with adenocarcinoma of the b.adder. Diagnosis of certainty is histological b. careful analysis of chips from b.adder endoscopic resection. This rare pathology is managed b. endoscopic b.adder resection, with repeated cystoscopy as a monitoring tool. Extensive surgical is needed in severe or recurrent cases. We present here-in a case of a female patient having cystitis glandularis presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms. We review equally data reported in literature. To the b.st of our knowledge our case represents the fourth case of cystitis glandularis affecting a female patient reported in the English literature so far.

AIM: To study the expression of carb.nic anhydrase(CA) 9 in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) ***: We studied CA9 protein, CA9 m RNA and hypoxia-inducib.e factor-1 alpha(HIF-1α) protein levels in Hep3 b.cells exposed in different parallel approaches. In one of these approaches, HCC cells were exposed to extreme in vitro hypoxia(24 h 0.1% O2) without or with interleukin(IL)-1, IL-6, tumor necrosis factoralpha(TNF-α) and transforming growth factor-b.ta(TGF-β) stimulation for the same hypoxic exposure time or exposed to normoxic oxygenation conditions without or with cytokine ***: The tumour cell line analysed showed a strong hypoxic CA9 m RNA expression pattern in response to prolonged severe hypoxia with cell-line specific patterns and a marked induction of CA9 protein in response to severe hypoxia. These results were paralleled b. the results for HIF-1α protein under identical oxygenation conditions with a similar expression tendency to that displayed during the CA9 protein expression experimental series. Continuous stimulation with the cytokines, IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and TGF-β, under normoxic conditions significantly increased the carb.nic anhydrase 9 expression level at b.th the protein and m RNA level, almost doub.ing the CA9 m RNA and CA9 and HIF-1α protein expression levels found under hypoxia. The findings from these experiments indicated that hypoxia is a positive regulator of CA9 expression in HCC, and the four signal transduction pathways, IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and TGF-β, positively influence CA9 expression under b.th normoxic and hypoxic ***: These findings may potentially b. considered in the design of anti- cancer therapeutic approaches involving hypoxia-induced or cytokine stimulatory effects on expression. Structural and Optical Investigations of Ge20Se80-xb.x Thin Films

Alloys of Ge20Se80-xb.x compound have b.en prepared from their elements successfully with high purity (99.9999%) which mixed stoichiometry ratio (x = 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20) at% b. with (Ge, Se and b.) elements. The X-ray diffraction investigations were made up and it notice that the alloys have polycrystalline structure. Films of Ge20Se80-xb.x alloys for different values of composition with thickness (0.5 ?m) have b.en prepared b. thermal evaporation method on cleaned glass sub.trates at room temperature under very low pressure (10-6 Torre) at rate of deposition (3 A?/s). The optical studies showed that the electronic transitions in the fundamental ab.orption edge tend to b. allowed indirect transition. It was also found that the optical energy gap vary non-linearly with composition (x) and have a minimum value at x = 20. It is found that the optical constants influence with increase of dopant concentration.

Differentiated Thyroid Cancer with Thyroglob.lin Elevation and Negative Iodine Scintigraphy (TENIS Syndrome)

b.ckground and Ob.ectives: Following the initial management, some patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) develop a state of high thyroglob.lin (Tg) and Negative Iodine Scintigraphy. The predisposing factors and outcome of this condition are unclear. In this study, our ob.ectives were to analyze the characteristics of patients with high Tg level and negative Iodine scintigraphy and to determine the predictive factors for development of high Tg and negative scintigraphy. Patients and Methods: Retrospective study of 34 patients undergoing treatment for DTC, followed in the Nuclear Medicine department of the University Hospital—Sahloul Sousse b.tween 1990 and 2006 and having a high Tg and negative Iodine scintigraphy. Fourteen patients had Tg b.tween 2 and 10 ng/ml, 16 had Tg b.tween 11 and 100 ng/ml and 4 patients had Tg more than 100 ng/ml. Results: There were 25 women and 9 men. The mean age was 51.65 years. In 94.1% of cases, the tumor was papillary carcinoma. Follicular tumors accounted for only 5.9%. The mean nodule size was3.26 cm. Capsular invasion was seen in 47.1% cases. The locoregional invasion was found in 35.3%. The lymph node extension was found in 84.8% of patients having lymph node surgery. Lymph node involvement was ob.erved in 92.8% of patients with papillary cancer b.t it was found in 7.2% of patients with follicular cancers. Lymph node invasion was unilateral in 28.6% (N1a) and b.lateral, contralateral or mediastinal in 71.4% (N1b.. Initial level of Tg was as follows: 7 patients had Tg b.tween 2 and 10 ng/ml, 14 patients had Tg b.tween 11 and 100 ng/ml and 12 had Tg more than 100 ng/ml. The mean numb.r of radioactive Iodine cure was 11.08 for patients with Tg more than 100 ng/ml with a significant difference (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Among epidemiological, pathological and clinical characteristics, lymph node invasion is the most frequent parameter found in patients with a DTC with high Tg level and negative Iodine scintigraphy.
