Population structure and regeneration patterns of tree species in climate-sensitive subalpin. forests of Indian western Himalaya

The population structure of tree species has been explored in order to elucidate regeneration potential of the subalpin. forests of Indian western Himalaya. For this study, the subalpin. forest area was divided into three strata, i.e., lower altitude （〈3000 m）; mid-altitude （3000-3200 m）; and high altitude （〉3200m）. Considering the major compositional attributes, an increase in altitude came with a significant decline in tree density and the total basal area for all the sites. However, no such clear trends were observed for recruits （i.e., seedlings and saplings）. Seedling density did not exhibit uniform patterns for sites and altitude strata. In general, overall seedling density was greater at the pin.ari site compared to the Lata and Tun.n.th sites. By comparison, significant variation in seedling density along the altitude strata was recorded for the Tun.n.th and pin.ari sites only. Likewise, sapling density patterns varied across the sites and altitude strata, and significant variation in sapling density along the altitude strata was recorded only for the Lata site. At the pin. daft site, the continuous increase in sapling density along with increasing altitude was revealing. The pin.ari forests of exhibited expanding population structure. In contrast, greater accumulation of individuals in the sapling class and sharp decline toward both higher tree classes and lower seedling classes was generally apparent for the Lata and Tun.n.th sites. This indicates that the replacement in tree size classes from sapling stage is not proportional and the population may decline in the long-term. Considerable variation in patterns of forest and domin.n. species popula- tion structure were evident across altitude strata. But in all cases irrespective of sites, we found growth at the high-altitude stratum, in the form of entire forests or domin.n. species. This trend deserves further investigation to explore its relevance under changing climate scenarios.

采用粉末冶金方法制备石墨/二硫化钼增强镁基自润滑复合材料,并分别表征这些复合材料的显微组织、物理性能、力学性能和磨损性能。利用XRD手段鉴定复合材料中的Gr/MoS_2相。显微组织观察表明,Gr/MoS_2颗粒均匀地分散在镁基体中。在室温条件下施加载荷5 g并保持15 s,测试复合材料的显微硬度,得到所有复合材料的显微硬度为VHn 29-34。使用显微硬度、拉伸和压缩试验研究材料的力学性能,并用扫描电子显微镜分析材料的断口形貌,得到Mg-10MoS_2复合材料最高的硬度、抗压强度和拉伸强度。用销-盘式摩擦仪测试烧结复合材料的摩擦因数和磨损量。另外,通过磨损表面特征,利用SEM系统分析复合材料的摩擦磨损机制。结果表明,与石墨相比,二硫化钼的摩擦因数和磨损有所减少。

Role of selected criteria and preventive chemotherapy in tumor recurrence after liver transplantation

Background:Long-term survival after liver transplantation(LT)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients remains poor because of tumor *** improve the prognosis of HCC patients after LT,we aimed to identify different transplantation criteria and risk factors related to tumor recurrence and evaluate the effect of preventive chemotherapy in a single ***:In total,data on 20 variables and the survival of 199 patients with primary HCC who underwent LT between 2005 and 2015 were included for *** patients were divided into the following three groups:Group 1,within the Milan and Hangzhou criteria(n=51);Group 2,beyond the Milan but within the Hangzhou criteria(n=36);and Group 3,beyond the Milan and Hangzhou criteria(n=112).Survival probabilities for the three groups were calculated using multivariate Cox regression *** association between preventive therapy and HCC-recurrence after LT was analyzed by multiple logistic regression ***:Child-Pugh stage C and hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection were independent risk factors for patients with tumor recurrence who did not meet the Milan *** overall survival rates of the 199 patients showed statistically significant differences among the three groups(Pno significant difference was noted in the survival rate between Group 1 and Group 2(P>0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that postoperative prophylactic chemotherapy reduced the risk of tumor recurrence in patients who did not meet the Hangzhou and Milan criteria(OR=0.478;95%CI:0.308–0.741;P=0.001).Conclusions:Child-Pugh classification and HBV infection were the independent risk factors of tumor recurrence in HCC patients with *** Hangzhou criteria were effective and analogous compared with the Milan *** chemotherapy significantly reduced the risk of recurrence and prolonged the survival time for HCC patients beyond the Milan and Hangzhou criteria after LT.

Mechanisms of treatment of cancer pain with a topical Chinese herbal formula in rats

Background Pain has a substantial impact on patients＇ activities and overall quality of life, but current conventional drugs have debilitating side effects, including gastrointestinal disorders. Thus there is a pressing need for new therapies with fewer side effects to alleviate cancer pain. We recently developed a topical herbal formula Xiaotan Tongluo analgesic gel （X＇I-IL gel） based on the principles of traditional Chinese herbalism, and we have received positive feedback from bone cancer pain patients. The aim of this study was to determine the analgesic effects and explore the mechanisms of XTI-L gel in a rat model of bone cancer pain. Methods The rat model of bone cancer pain was established by inoculating Walker-256 rat carcinoma cells directly into the right tibial medullary cavity of Wistar rats. The rats were randomly assigned to three groups （n=-10 per group）：（1） sham bone cancer control （sham group）： vehicle （PBS） inoculation without carcinoma cells plus topical administration of blank gel; （2） Sham treatment control （vehicle group）： Walker-256 cell inoculation plus topical administration of blank gel; （3） XTTL gel treatment （treatment group）： Walker-256 cell inoculation plus topical administration of XTTL gel. XTTL gel treatments were applied daily for 7 days starting on day 14 following inoculation. Outcomes were assessed 21 days after inoculation by mechanical allodynia, histological stain.n., and by measuring concentrations of type I collagen carboxy-terminal telopeptide （ICTP） and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase （BAP） in serum. Results Fourteen days after cancer cell incubation, significant mechanical allodynia in the ipsilateral hind paw and tumor growth in proximal end of the tibia were observed in the vehicle and treatment groups but not in the sham group. At day 21, mechanical withdrawal thresholds in treatment group rats were significantly higher （（4.8557±0.8336） g） compared with those of the vehicle group （（1.8630±1.4369） g, P 〈0.05）. ICTP

20世纪20年代的中国见证了现代摄影如何成为一种广泛流行的日常生活实践。这一转变固然得益于不断革新的摄影技术,但是普通人对现代技术的理解和接受还需要进一步的中介和调停,早期的相机广告恰恰扮演了这样一个角色。作为20世纪最成功的摄影技术公司之一,“柯达”在20世纪20—30年代的中国大众媒体上开展了一系列密集的商业营销,其中最引人注目的视觉形象是一群手持照相机的摩登女性。总体而言,借助有关技术和性别的视觉再现,这些广告形象成功地向中产阶级读者传达出一种全新的视觉现代性。但是,对于现代视觉主体来说,现代性一方面充满了愉悦与诱惑,另一方面又带来了焦虑和危机。
