In France,the use of flax fibers as reinforcement in composite materials is growing exponentially in the automotive sector,thanks to their good physicochemical properties,environmental reasons,health neutrality and due to the European Council Directives on the reuse,recycling and valorization of car components and *** aim of our study is to investigate biochemical,physicochemical,and mechanical properties of technical flax fibers to evaluate the impact of transformation processes(scutching,hackling,and homogenization)on final properties of associated composite *** chemical analysis such as Van Soest(biochemical fraction measurement),FTIR(Fourier Transform InfraRed spectroscopy),and XRD(X-ray diffraction)were carried out on different process modalities and show that there is no significant difference in terms of biochemical fraction and crystallinity *** the same token,mechanical behavior shows that Young’s modulus is not affected by the transformation *** result is also observed for thermal *** results highlight the fact that the transformation processes of technical fibers do not really affect their physicochemical and mechanical performances.

Hydrogels are highly porous three-dimensional crosslinked polymer networks consisting of hy-drophilic polymers,employed most practically in medicine and industry,often as *** hydrogels suffer limitations in their mechanical properties,such as tensile and com-pression,and freeze at sub-zero temperatures,which compromise their ability as useful *** this study,the incorporation of L-ornithine-based zwitterionic monomer(OZM),titanium carbide(MXene),and glycerol within polyacrylamide hydrogels was used to prepare a novel polyacrylamide/polyL-ornithine-based zwitterion/MXene(PAM/Porn/MXene)hydrogel to im-prove the mechanical,adhesion,and anti-freezing properties of pure polyacrylamide *** study also analyzed the mechanical strength(tensile and compression),adhesion,and anti-freezing properties of a novel PAM/Porn/MXene hydrogel at 1%,4%,and 10%MXene concen-trations to establish to what extent the conductive MXene material enhanced these properties and concluded that the tensile and compressive properties improved linearly with the increase in the concentrations of MXene,adhesion decreased with the increased MXene concentrations,and syn-ergistic interaction between MXene and OZM significantly improved the anti-freezing properties up to-80°C.

In the well-known superfamily of transforming growth factors beta (TGF-b), bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are one of the most compelling cytokines for their major role in regulation of cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. This subfamily was first described for its ability of potentiating bone formation, but nowadays, the power of BMPs is well beyond the bone healing scope. Some of the BMPs have been well studied and described in the literature, but the BMP9 is still worthy of attention. It has been shown by many authors that it is the most potent osteogenic BMP. Moreover, it has been described as one of the rare circulating BMPs. In this paper, we will review the recent literature on BMP9 and the different avenues for future research in that field. Our primary scope is to review its relation to bone formation and to elaborate on the available literature on other systems.

Objective:In patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HnSCC),cetuximab[a monoclonal antibody targeting epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)]has been shown to improve overall survival when combined with radiotherapy in the locally advanced setting or with chemotherapy in first-line recurrent and/or metastatic(R/M)setting,*** biomarkers of resistance to cetuximab have been identified in metastatic colorectal cancer,no biomarkers of efficacy have been identified in ***,we aimed to identify biomarkers of cetuximab sensitivity/resistance in ***:HnSCC patients treated with cetuximab at the Curie Institute,for whom complete clinicopathological data and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded(FFPE)tumor tissue collected before cetuximab treatment were available,were *** analyses of PTEn and EGFR were performed to assess protein expression ***3 CA and H/n/KRAS mutations were analyzed using high-resolution melting(HRM)and Sanger *** evaluated the predictive value of these alterations in terms of progression-free survival(PFS).Results:Hot spot activating PIK3 CA and KRAS/HRAS mutations were associated with poor PFS among HnSCC patients treated with cetuximab in the first-line R/M setting,but not among HnSCC patients treated with cetuximab in combination with *** of PTEn protein expression had a negative predictive value among HnSCC patients treated with cetuximab and *** EGFR expression did not predict cetuximab sensitivity in our patient ***:Hot spot activating PIK3 CA and RAS mutations predicted cetuximab resistance among HnSCC patients in the firstline R/M setting,whereas loss of PTEn protein expression predicted resistance to cetuximab when combined to radiotherapy.

High-organic (mucky) mineral soils make a small proportion of the Canadian agricultural land but are highly productive, especially for organic farming. Although these high-quality soils may release large amounts of nitrate and phosphate to the environment, there is yet no reliable agro-environmental indicator for managing n and P compared to the adjacent mineral and organic soils. Our objective was to quantify the n mineralization and P environmental risks of mucky mineral soils. nine Canadian soil series (eight Orthic Humic Gleysols and one Terric Humisol with three variants) were analyzed for texture, pH(CaCl2), total C and n, oxalate and Mehlich-III (M-III) extractable P, Al and Fe, and water extractable P (Pw). Soil texture varied from loamy sand to heavy clay, organic carbon (OC) content ranged from 14 to 392 g·OC·kg-1, total n from 1.21 to 16.38 g·n·kg-1, and degree of P saturation (DPSM-III) as molar (P/[Al + γFe])M-III percentage between 0.3% and 11.3%. After 100 d of incubation, soils released 31 to 340 mg·n·kg-1. The n mineralization rate was closely correlated to organic matter content (r = 0.91, p Sandy to loamy soils released 1.2 - 1.8 kg·n·ha-1·d-1 compared to 1.6 - 2.4 kg·n·ha-1·d-1 for clayey soils, 2.0 - 2.8 kg·n·ha-1·d-1 for mucky clayey soils and 2.6 - 2.7 kg·n·ha-1·d-1 for Humisol. For (P/[Al + 3Fe])M-III ratios of mucky clayey soils below 4.5%, water-extractable P did not exceed threshold of 9.7 mg Pw L-1. Mucky clayey soils could be managed for n similarly to Humisol and for P with (P/[Al + 3Fe])M-III percentage not exceeding 4.5%.

Optimization of the generator settings for endobiliary radiofrequency ablation

AIM:To determine the optimal generator settings for endobiliary radiofrequency ablation. METHODS:Endobiliary radiofrequency ablation was performed in live swine on the ampulla of Vater,the common bile duct and in the hepatic parenchyma. Radiofrequency ablation time,"effect",and power were allowed to vary. The animals were sacrificed two hours after the procedure. Histopathological assessment of the depth of the thermal lesions was performed. RESULTS:Twenty-five radiofrequency bursts were applied in three swine. In the ampulla of Vater(n = 3),necrosis of the duodenal wall was observed starting with an effect set at 8,power output set at 10 W,and a 30 s shot duration,whereas superficial mucosal damage of up to 350 μm in depth was recorded for an effect set at 8,power output set at 6 W and a 30 s shot duration. In the common bile duct(n = 4),a 1070 μm,safe and efficient ablation was obtained for an effect set at 8,a power output of 8 W,and an ablation time of 30 s. Within the hepatic parenchyma(n = 18),the depth of tissue damage varied from 1620 μm(effect = 8,power = 10 W,ablation time = 15 s) to 4480 μm(effect = 8,power = 8 W,ablation time = 90 s). COnCLUSIOn:The duration of the catheter application appeared to be the most important parameter influencing the depth of the thermal injury during endobiliary radiofrequency ablation. In healthy swine,the currently recommended settings of the generator may induce severe,supratherapeutic tissue damage in the biliary tree,especially in the high-risk area of the ampulla of Vater.

To minimize losses between harvest and retail display, a system is needed to track temperature and RH exposure of fresh produce and predict its quality at each step of the distribution chain. With accurate models, such system could （1） identify problematic situations before losses occur; （2） become a management tool for decision makers; and （3） help quantify the real impact of individual inappropriate conditions. A project was initiated to develop models required for such a decision system. Because the data required to develop models were not available for most fruit and vegetables, a series of storage trials was planned for measuring changes in physiological and microbial quality, and development of physiological disorders and/or diseases, as a function of time, temperature and RH. To meet this objective, controlled environment mini-chambers were designed, built and instrumented for measuring the effect of traceable environmental conditions encountered during storage and transportation of fresh horticultural produce of similar size and shape as tomato. Detailed design and performance evaluation of these mini-chambers are presented.

Background: Metastatic lesions of the pancreas are a rare but important cause of focal pancreatic lesions. The purpose of this study is to describe the EUS features, cytologic diagnoses, and clinical impact of a cohort of patients with pancreatic metastases diagnosed by EUS-guided FnA (EUS-FnA). Methods: Over a 6-year period, in a retrospective, multicenter study, patients had the diagnosis of pancreatic metastases confirmed with EUS-FnA. All examinations were performed by one of 5 experienced endosonographers. The EUS and the clinical findings of pancreatic metastases were compared with those of a cohort with primary pancreatic malignancy. Results: Thirty-seven patients with possible metastases were identified, and 13 were excluded because of diagnostic uncertainty. The remaining 24 underwent EUS-FnA (mean passes 4.1) of a pancreatic mass without complications. Diagnoses included metastases from primary kidney (10), skin (6), lung (4), colon (2), liver (1), and stomach (1) cancer. In 4 (17%), 16 (67%), and 24 (100%) patients, EUS-FnA provided the initial diagnosis of malignancy, tumor recurrence, and pancreatic metastases, respectively. Four (17%) metastases initially were discovered by EUS after negative (n = 3) or inconclusive (n = 1) CT scans. Compared with primary cancer, pancreatic metastases were more likely to have well-defined margins (46%vs. 4%) compared with irregular (94%vs. 54%; p ns. no statistically significant difference between the two populations was noted for tumor size, echogenicity, consistency, location, lesion number, or number of FnA passes performed. Conclusions: Pancreatic metastases are an important cause of focal pancreatic lesions and may occasionally be discovered during EUS examination after previously negative or inconclusive CT. Use of immunocytochemistry, when available, may help to confirm a suspected diagnosis. These lesions are more likely to have well-defined EUS margins compared with primary pancreatic cancer.
