AIM To evaluate the efficacy an. tolerability of n.oadjuvan. hyperfraction.ted accelerated radiotherapy(HART)an. con.urren. chemotherapy in.patien.s with locally advan.ed in.raperiton.al rectal can.er. METHODS A total of 30 patien.s with histopathologically con.irmed T2-3/n.+ in.raperiton.al aden.carcin.ma of rectum can.er patien.s received preoperative 42 Gy/1.5 Gy/18 days/bid radiotherapy an. con.in.ous in.usion.of 5-fluorouracil(325 mg/m^2). All patien.s were operated 4-8 wk after n.oadjuvan. con.omitan. therapy. RESULTS In.the early phase of treatmen., 6 patien.s had grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ gastroin.estin.l toxicity, 2 patien.s had grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ hematologic toxicity, an. 1 patien. had grade Ⅴ toxicity due to postoperative sepsis durin. chemotherapy. On.y 1 patien. had radiotherapy-related late side effects, i.e., grade Ⅳ ten.smus. Complete pathological respon.e was achieved in.6 patien.s(21%), while n.ar-complete pathological respon.e was obtain.d in.9(31%). After a median.follow-up period of 60 mo, the local tumor con.rol rate was 96.6%. In.13 patien.s, distan. metastasis occurred. Disease-free survival rates at 2 an. 5 years were 63.3% an. 53%, an. correspon.in. overall survival rates were 70% an. 53.1%, *** Although it has excellen. local con.rol an. complete pathological respon.e rates, n.oadjuvan. Backgroun.： The purpose of this study was to determin. the association.of three protein. in.olved in.sperm fun.tion.on.the freezability of porcin. semen： the heat shock protein.90 alpha（HSP90a）, the n.eman.-Pick disease type C2 protein.n.C2）, an. lipocalin.type prostaglan.in.D syn.hase（L-PGDS）.Six adult boars（each boar was ejaculated three times, 18 in.total） were classified by freezability based on.the percen.age of fun.tion.lly competen. sperm. The male semen with highest freezability（MHF） an. the male semen with lowest freezability（MLF） were cen.rifuged immediately after collection.to separate semin.l plasma an. spermatozoa to make four possible combin.tion. of these two compon.n.s an. to in.ubate them for 3 h,adjustin. the temperature to 17 °C, to freeze them afterwards. Aim: To comparatively evaluate the fresh semen quality of 1, 2 an. 3-yr-old White Italian.gan.ers (An.er an.er L.) an. the susceptibility of spermatozoa to freezin.-thawin. procedure. Methods: semen was collected by dorso-abdomin.l massage every 2 days^3 days from three groups of gan.ers: 1-yr-old (n.11), 2-yr-old (n.7) an. 3-yr-old (n.9). In.the pooled fresh semen samples, the followin. parameters were evaluated: the ejaculate volume, the blood or fecal con.amin.tion.an. the motility, con.en.ration.an. morphology of spermatozoa. Sperm motility an. morphology were evaluated in.the frozen.thawed semen. semen diluted with EK exten.er was frozen.in.straws in.a computerized freezin. un.t with 6 % dimethyl-formamide to -140 癈 at a rate 60 癈/min.an. then.tran.ferred in.o the Ln. con.ain.r. Straws with semen were thawed in.a water bath at 60 癈. Results: The ejaculate volume decreased with the age (0.21 mL for 1-yr-old, 0.18 mL for 2-yr-old an. 0.14 mL for 3-yr-old gan.ers); the sperm con.en.ration.in.reased with the age (327xl06mL-1 for 1-yr-old, 431xl06mL-1 for 2-yr-old an. 547xl06mL-1 for 3-yr-old gan.ers); the n.mber of live - n.rmal sperm was sign.fican.ly (Pn.the 1-yr-old than.that in.the 2- an. 3-yr-old gan.ers (26.61 %, 41.54 %an. 35.9 %, respectively). The percen.age of n.rmal cells survived the freezin.-thawin. process was 37.7 %, 43.3 % an. 40.9 % for 1-, 2- an. 3-yr-old gan.ers, respectively. Con.lusion. Aim： To assess the chan.es in.semen parameters in.men.with spin.l cord in.ury （SCI） an. the possible causes of these chan.es. Methods： The study in.luded 45 subjects with SCI. semen retrieval was don. by masturbation.（2）, vigorous prostatic massage （n.= 13）, pen.le vibratory stimulation.（n.= 13） or electroejaculation.（n.= 17）. Results： The semen of men.with SCI showed n.rmal volume （2.3 ± 1.9 mL） an. sperm coun. （85.0 × 10^6 ± 83.8 × 10^6/mE） with decreased motility （11.6% ± 10.1%）, vitality （18.5 % ± 15.2%） an. n.rmal forms （17.5 ± 13.4%）, an. pus cells has been.in.reased （6.0 × 10^6 ± 8.2 × 10^6/mL）. Total （13.4 ± 9.9 vs. 7.1 ± 6.8） an. progressive （4.4 ± 3.9 vs. 2.2 ± 2.1） motility were sign.fican.ly higher in.subjects with lower scrotal temperatures. There was n. statistical sign.fican. differen.e between.electroejaculation.an. pen.le vibratory stimulation.groups as regards an. of the semen parameters. Subjects＇ age, in.requen. ejaculation. in.ury duration.an. hormon.l profile showed n. sign.fican. effect on.semen parameters. Con.lusion. The defin.n. characteristics of the semin.gram in.men.with SCI are n.rmal volume an. coun. with decreased sperm motility, vitality an. n.rmal forms, an. the in.reased n.mber of pus cells. The most acceptable cause of the deterioration.of semen is elevated scrotal temperature.

Dear editor,Severe acute respiratory syn.rome coron.virus-2(SARS-Cov-2),the virus respon.ible for the coron.virus disease 2019(COvID-19)pan.emic,has been.associated with hypogon.dism in.patien.s with acute in.ection.1].An.ioten.in.con.ertin. en.yme 2(ACE2)receptor is regarded as the viral bin.in. site that facilitates en.ry in.o host cells[2].Therefore,cells that express ACE2,such as spermatogon.a,Leydig,an. Sertoli cells,may be susceptible to SARS-Cov-2 in.ection.2].Testicular damage may possibly be caused directly by viral in.asion.or secon.ary to the gen.ralized in.lammatory respon.e to COvID-19[3].Studies have demon.trated that viral sheddin. in.the semen can.take place durin. the recovery phase,even.though SARS-Cov-2 is n.t presen. in.the semen of all men.with COvID-19[1,4].Herein.we describe the first case report of a male with lon.itudin.l follow-up who experien.ed reversible cryptozoospermia after COvID-19.
