Ultimate bearing capacity(UBC)is a key subject in geotechnical/foundation engineering as it determines the limit of loads imposed on the *** most reliable means of determining UBC is through experiment,but it is costly and time-consuming which has led to the development of various models based on the simplified *** outcomes of the models are usually validated with the experimental results,but a large gap usually exists between ***,a model that can give a close prediction of the experimental results is *** study proposes a grasshopper optimization algorithm(GOA)and salp swarm algorithm(SSA)to optimize artificial neural networks(Anns)using the existing UBC experimental *** performances of the proposed models are evaluated using various statistical *** obtained results are compared with the existing *** proposed models outperformed the existing *** proposed hybrid GOA-Ann and SSA-Ann models are then transformed into mathematical forms that can be incorporated into geotechnical/foundation engineering design codes for accurate UBC measurements.

Different artificial intelligence(Ai)methods have been applied to various aspects of rock mechanics,but the fact that none of these methods have been used as a standard implies that doubt as to their generality and validity still *** this,a literature review of application of Ai to the field of rock mechanics is *** studies of the researches published in the top journals relative to the fields of rock mechanics,computer applications in engineering,and the textbooks were *** performances of the Ai methods that have been used in rock mechanics applications were *** literature review shows that Ai methods have successfully been used to solve various problems in the rock mechanics field and they performed better than the traditional empirical,mathematical or statistical ***,their practical applicability is still an issue of concern as many of the existing Ai models require some level of expertise before they can be used,because they are not in the form of tractable mathematical *** some advanced Ai methods are still yet to be *** limited availability of dataset for the Ai simulations is also identified as a major *** solutions to the identified problems and the possible future research focus were proposed in the study subsequently.

Phase diagram and thermodynamic parameters of the random field ising model （RFiM） on spherical lattice are studied by using mean field theory. This lattice is placed in an external magnetic field （B）. The random field （hi） is assumed to be Gaussian distributed with zero mean and a variance （hi2） = HRF2. The free energy （F）, the magnetization （M） and the order parameter （q） are calculated. The ferromagnetic （FM） spin-glass （SG） phase transition is clearly observed. The critical temperature （Tc） is computed under a critical intensity of random field HRF = V/2/πJ. The phase transition from FM to paramagnetic （PM） occurs at TC = J/k in the absence of magnetic field. The critical temperature decreases as HRF increases in the phase boundary of FM-to-SG. The magnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at TC and the specific heat （C） has a singularity in small random field. The internal energy （U） has a similar behaviour to that obtained from the Monte Carlo simulation.

Controlled growth and careful characterization of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for antibacterial applica- tions are challenging. Copper-substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles （CuxCo1-xFe2O4）, where x = 0.0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0, were synthesized using an economical and simple co-precipitation technique. The crys- tal structure and antibacterial properties of the samples as a function of Cu-substituted content were systematically studied. With increasing Cu concentration, the nanopartide size decreased from ~30 to ~20 nm. The Fourier transform infra-red spectra exhibit two prominent fundamental absorption bands, at ~595 and 419 cm^-1. These bands correspond to intrinsic stretching vibrations of metals at tetrahedral and octahedral sites, respectively. The Raman scattering results reveal that increasing the Cu content enhances the local disorder at both tetrahedral and octahedral sub lattices. The results indicate that the substitution of Co with Cu in cobalt ferrite nanoparticles strongly influences the microstructure, crystal structure, and oarticle diameter, and also improves the antibacterial properties.

The thermodynamics and the phase diagram of random field ising model （RFiM） on Bethe lattice are studied by using a replica trick. This lattice is placed in an external magnetic field （B）. A Gaussian distribution of random field （hi） with zero mean and variance （hi2 = H2RF is considered. The free-energy （F）, the magnetization （M） and the order parameter （q） are investigated for several values of coordination number （z）. The phase diagram shows several interesting behaviours and presents tricritical point at critical temperature Tc = J/k and when HRF = 0 for finite z. The free-energy （F） values increase as T increases for different intensities of random field （HRE） and finite z. The internal energy （U） has a similar behaviour to that obtained from the Monte Carlo simulations. The ground state of magnetization decreases as the intensity of random field HRF increases, The ferromagnetic （FM） paramagnetic （PM） phase boundary is clearly observed only when z →∞. While FM PM-spin glass （SG） phase boundaries are present for finite z. The magnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at Tc in a small random field for finite z and rounded different peaks on increasing HRF.

Automatic Fall Detection Using Membership Based Histogram Descriptors

t We propose a framework for automatic fall detection based on video visual feature extraction. The proposed approach relies on a membership histogram descriptor that encodes the visual properties of the video frames. This descriptor is obtained by mapping the original low-level visual features to a more discriminative descriptor using possibilistic memberships. This mapping can be summarized in two main phases. The first one consists in categorizing the low-level visual features of the video frames arid generating homogeneous clusters in an unsupervised way. The second phase uses the obtained membership degrees generated by the clustering process to compute the membership based histogram descriptor （MHD）. For the testing stage, the proposed fall detection approach categorizes unlabeled videos as ＂Fall＂ or ＂non-Fall＂ scene using a possibilistic K-nearest neighbors classifier. The proposed approach is assessed using standard videos dataset that simulates patient fall. Also, we compare its performance with that of state-of-the-art fall detection techniques.

Magnesium hydride(MgH_(2))is the most feasible and effective solid-state hydrogen storage material,which has excellent reversibility but initiates decomposing at high temperatures and has slow kinetics ***,zinc titanate(Zn_(2)TiO_(4))synthesised by the solid-state method was used as an additive to lower the initial temperature for dehydrogenation and enhance the re/dehydrogenation behaviour of MgH_(2).With the presence of Zn_(2)TiO_(4),the starting temperature for the dehydrogenation of MgH_(2)was remarkably lowered to around 290℃–305℃.in addition,within 300 s,the MgH_(2)–Zn_(2)TiO_(4)sample absorbed 5.0 wt.%of H_(2)and 2.2–3.6 wt.%H_(2)was liberated from the composite sample in 30 min,which is faster by 22–36 times than as-milled MgH_(2).The activation energy of the MgH_(2)for the dehydrogenation process was also downshifted to 105.5 k J/mol with the addition of Zn_(2)TiO_(4)indicating a decrease of 22%than as-milled MgH_(2).The superior behaviour of MgH_(2)was due to the formation of Mg Zn_(2),MgO and MgTiO_(3),which are responsible for ameliorating the re/dehydrogenation behaviour of MgH_(2).These findings provide a new understanding of the hydrogen storage behaviour of the catalysed-MgH_(2)system.

We present a new method for determining the age and relative contribution of different stellar populations in galaxies based on the genetic *** apply this method to the barred spiral galaxy nGC 3384,using CCD images in U,B,V,R and i *** analysis indicates that the galaxy nGC 3384 is mainly inhabited by old stellar population(age〉10^9 yr).Some problems were encountered when numerical simulations are used for determining the contribution of different stellar populations in the integrated color of a *** results show that the proposed genetic algorithm can search efficiently through the very large space of the possible ages.
