The conventional method of fabricating hydrogels constantly confronts the conflict between elasticity and toughness, limiting their repetitive application. Achieving the desired elasticity through a simple and low-cost approach is a significant challenge for hydrogels, particularly through rational molecular design. Here, low-hysteresis and high-toughness hydrogels are developed from the design of a new feature monomer, n-acryloylethylsemicarbazide (nACE). Based on a concept of “asymmetric Hbonding design”, the unique double and triple H-bonding of nACE can result in a novel asymmetric crosslinking polymer with alternating strong and weak H-bonding regions. The nACE is copolymerized with acrylamide (AM) to regulate the mechanical properties of hydrogel via H-bonding density. The P(nACE-AM) ionic hydrogels are obtained simply and rapidly via one-step photopolymerization without a chemical cross-linking agent. The P(nACE-AM) hydrogels combine superb mechanical elasticity and toughness, and excellent ionic conductivity, showing great potential as durable ionic conductive devices for wearable utilization.

Soil is the largest carbon(C) reservoir in terrestrial ecosystems and plays a crucial role in regulating the global C cycle and climate *** nitrogen(n) deposition has been widely considered as a critical factor affecting soil organic carbon(SOC) storage, but its effect on SOC components with different stability remains unclear. Here, we analyzed extensive empirical data from 304 sites worldwide to investigate how SOC and its components respond to n addition. Our analysis showed that n addition led to a significant increase in bulk SOC(6.7%), with greater increases in croplands(10.6%) and forests(6.0%) compared to grasslands(2.1%). Regarding SOC components, n addition promoted the accumulation of plant-derived C(9.7%–28.5%) over microbial-derived C(0.2%), as well as labile(5.7%) over recalcitrant components(–1.2%), resulting in a shift towards increased accumulation of plant-derived labile C. Consistently, n addition led to a greater increase in particulate organic C(11.9%) than mineral-associated organic C(3.6%), suggesting that n addition promotes C accumulation across all pools, with more increase in unstable than stable pools. The responses of SOC and its components were best predicted by the n addition rate and net primary productivity. Overall, our findings suggest that n enrichment could promote the accumulation of plant-derived and non-mineral associated C and a subsequent decrease in the overall stability of soil C pool, which underscores the importance of considering the effects of n enrichment on SOC components for a better understanding of C dynamics in soils.

This article analyzes the transmission line characteristics of plasmonic hybrid metal insulator metal(HMIM) wave-guide, circular ring resonator(CRR) based dual-band band-pass filters with two transmission poles in both pass-bands in the optical regime using coupled line feed. The transmission line characteristics of an HMIM waveguide, such as characteristic impedance(Z_(PV)), effective refractive index(n_(eff)) and propagation length(L_(spp)), have been obtained by using full wave simulation.

The phylogenetic relationships among imported ornamental crayfish belonging to the genus Cherax were inferred from a combined dataset of 3 mitochondrial genes(COI,16S and 12S)and by comparison with available GenBank sequences of 14 Cherax ***,the concordance of previously described species obtained from a wholesaler(Cherax boesemani,*** and ***)with available GenBank sequences was verified based on COI with special respect to comparison with sequences assigned as Cherax ***cently described species ***,*** and *** belong to the northern group of Cherax *** and analysis with other GenBank COI sequences show previously unreported diversity of new Guinean species,suggesting 5 putative new ***,species assigned to the subgenus Astaconephrops do not form a monophyletic clade;this subgenus should be reappraised relative to the purported typical morphological characteristic of the uncalcified patch on male *** importation of crayfish underscores the importance of accurate species *** of basic molecular methods is a necessary requisite for documenting occurrence,abundance and population trends of target ***,it helps to support eventual conservation decision-making by stakeholders.

Flight feathers of birds interact with the air flow during *** the observed low drag and high lift values at wind speeds from 9.0 to 19.8 m/s can be achieved due to the feather aerodynamics remains *** the present paper,we tested and compared morphological changes,drag reduction and flow visualization results of intact,damaged,and artificial feathers at different wind speeds in a wind *** the analysis of the drag force and resultant force angle,we proved that the integrity of feathers,whose barbs are usually closely interconnected,played an important role in the drag,which potentially triggers excellent drag reduction *** wind tunnel tests indicated that intact secondary feathers had a surprisingly high maximum drag reduction property at v?=?9 m/s compared with the feathers,where the integrity of barbs was *** hook cascades facilitated elasticity under pressure and suitable permeability in an intact feather,when the hooks were *** was indicated that the suitable permeability of intact feathers would prevent flow separation and reduce drag force at low wind speed;at high wind speed,elasticity under pressure and suitable permeability in an intact feather would facilitate strong squeezing effect,helping feathers withstand larger aerodynamic forces to which they might be subjected during *** was revealed that the intact secondary feather is a compromise between strong lift generation and drag reduction,which has a great significance for the bird’s flight.

Pilot study on bromate reduction in ozonation of water with low carbonate alkalinities by carbon dioxide

A pilot study was carried out to explore the application of carbon dioxide for pH depression in a bubble column and its ability to inhibit bromate formation for water with a low *** showed that in the absence of ammonia,CO 2 was capable of reducing bromate 38.0%–65.4% with one-unit pH *** 2 caused a slightly lower bromate reduction （4.2%） than did H 2 SO 4 when the pH was depressed to 7.4,and a more a pronounced lower reduction （8.8%） when the pH was depressed to *** the presence of 0.20 mg/L-n ammonia,bromate was largely inhibited with 73.9% *** the pH was depressed to 7.4,CO 2 and H 2 SO 4 showed an 11.3% and 23.5% bromate reduction respectively,demonstrating that the joint use of CO 2 and ammonia might be a plausible strategy of blocking all three bromate formation *** 2 could be applied through the aeration diffuser together with ozone gas,resulting in a similar bromate reduction compared with the premixing method through Venturi mixer.
