Buckling analysis of ring stiffened thin cylindrical shell under external pressure

Submarine pressure hulls,fire-tube boilers,vacuum tanks,oil well casings,submersibles,underground pipelines,tunnels,rocket motor casing,etc.,are some of the examples of thin cylindrical shell structures which collapse due to buckling under uniform *** enhance the buckling strength of bare cylin-drical shells,one of the best solutions is to stiffen them with ring *** this work in order to predict the shell instability failure mode(SIFM)and general instability failure mode(GIFM)FE models are generated and analysed using buckling analysis of general-purpose FE software *** numeri-cal results obtained using FE analysis are compared with published analytical and experimental *** in the present study effort s are taken to develop FE models to predict global and shell instability failure modes of externally ring stiffened cylindrical shells by using linear FE *** is proposed to use full/half bare cylindrical shell FE models(L/R ratio upto 200)to determine SIFM and FE models with shell281-Beam189(for stiffeners)can be used to determine *** developed FE models are vali-dated by comparing numerical results with experimental results published by Seleim and Roorda[25].By using both proposed FE models it is possible to predict the failure modes namely SIFM and GIFM,comparing their values of critical buckling *** lower pressure value can indicate the possible failure mode.

Crude phlorotannins from Eisenia bicyclis(CPEb),a common perennial brown seaweed were screened for pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,and antidiabetic *** Phlorotannins(CPEb)studied by FT-IR,LC-MS,UHPLC,and UV chromatography showed the occurrence of dieckol,8,8’-bieckol,fucofuroeckol,and the carotenoid,zeaxanthin(0.5 mg/kg).LPS,an inflammatory mediator,enhanced the production of cytokines such IL-1(interleukin-1),IL-6(interleukin-6),IL-8(interleukin-8),IL-10(interleukin-10),TnF-α(tumour necrosis factor-α),chemokine CXCL10,and nF-κB(nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells)in differentiated THP1 macrophage *** differentiated human monocytic cell line LPS-induced THP1 cells,CPEb was found to have anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the expression of IL-1,IL-6,IL-8(1.2 fold),CXCL10,nF-κB,and TnF-α.CPEb promoted 2-nBDG absorption in differentiated C2C12 myotubes under both basal(16.08%)and insulin-stimulated(51.09%)*** increased IRS/AKT-dependent glucose absorption and also activates the AMPK ***-α-glucosidase,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of CPEb indicate their role in treating hyperglycemia by scavenging ROS and inflammatory responses.

The degradation of 4-chloro-3-methylphenol（PCMC）using zeolite-encapsulated iron（III）,nickel（II）,and copper（II）complexes of n,n’-disalicylidene-1,2-phenylenediamine as catalysts,in a heterogeneous Fenton-like advanced oxidation process,was *** physicochemical properties of the catalysts were determined using powder X-ray diffraction,thermogravimetric analysis,Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,elemental analysis,and scanning electron *** effects of four factors,namely initial H2O2 concentration,catalyst dosage,temperature,and pH,on the degradation of a model organic pollutant were *** results show that at low acidic pH,almost complete removal of PCMC was achieved with the iron（III）,nickel（II）,and copper（II）catalysts after 120 min under the optimum reaction conditions：catalyst dosage 0.1 g,H2O2 concentration 75 mmol/L,initial PCMC concentration 0.35mmol/L,and 50 °*** reusability of the prepared catalysts in PCMC degradation was also studied and a possible catalyst deactivation mechanism is *** possible intermediate products,degradation pathway,and kinetics of PCMC oxidation were also studied.

PURPOSE: Clinical and histopathologic documentation of sympathetic ophthalmia (SO) development in eyes with postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis. DESIGn: Observational case series; retrospective clinicopathologic study. METHODS: All patients who presented with a clinical diagnosis of SO during 2002 to 2004 were included in the study. The diagnosis of SO was made on the basis of history of penetrating ocular injury,followed by development of bilateral intraocular inflammation,ultrasonographic detection of bilateral diffuse thickening of the choroid,or both. Patients presenting with the additional finding of hypopyon underwent an anterior chamber tap and vitreous aspirate for microbiologic detection of bacteria and fungi. Eight exciting eyes were enucleated and submitted for histologic examination. RESULTS: Of a total of 26 patients with a clinical diagnosis of SO,four also had bacterial endophthalmitis. Of these,histologic examination of three exciting eyes revealed vitreous abscess and typical features of SO. Of the five remaining enucleated globes,histologic examination showed that two eyes had phacoanaphylactic endophthalmitis,and two others revealed features of SO; the one remaining eye had nongranulomatous diffuse choroiditis. COnCLUSIOnS: Bacterial endophthalmitis cannot prevent the development of SO. Early diagnosis of coexistent mixed infectious and in-flammatory processes,and initiation of antimicrobial treatment directed at the infection followed by immunomodulatory agents to address the autoimmune component may improve the prognosis in such cases.
