Biometric and ICL-related risk factors associated to sub-optimal vaults in eyes implanted with implantable collamer lenses

Background:To identify biometric and implantable collamer lens(ICL)-related risk factors associated with suboptimal postoperative vault in eyes implanted with phakic ***:This study reports a retrospective case series of the first operated eye in 360 patients implanted with myopic spherical or toric ***,white-to-white(WTW),central keratometry(Kc)and central corneal thickness(CCT)were measured using the ***-segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT,Visante)was applied preoperatively for measuring the horizontal anterior-chamber angle-to-angle distance(ATA),internal anterior chamber depth(ACD),crystalline lens rise(CLR),anterior-chamber angle(ACA)and postoperatively the *** were divided into three vault groups:low(LVG:≤250μm),optimal(OVG:>250 andnd high(HVG:≥1000μm).Multinomial logistic regression(MLR)was used to find the sub-optimal vault ***:MLR showed that CLR,ICL size minus the ATA(ICL size-ATA),age,ICL spherical equivalent(ICLSE)and ICL size as contributing factors for sub-optimal vaults(pseudo-R2=0.40).Increased CLR(OR:1.01,CI:1.00-1.01)and less myopic ICLSE(OR:1.22,CI:1.07-1.40)were risk factors for low *** ICL size-ATA(OR:41.29,CI:10.57-161.22)and the 13.7mm ICL(OR:7.08,CI:3.16-15.89)were risk factors for high vaults,whereas less myopic ICLSE(OR:0.85,CI:0.76-0.95)and older age(OR:0.92,CI:0.88-0.98)were protective ***:High CLR and low ICLSE were the major risk factors in eyes presenting low *** the opposite direction,ICL size-ATA was the major contributor for high *** relationship was more critical in higher myopic ICLSE,younger eyes and when 13.7mm ICL were *** findings show that factors influencing the vault have differentiated weight of influence depending on the type of vault(low,optimal or high).

Exploring the reproductive ecology of the tropical semifossorial snake ninia atrata

Based on histological analyses and field studies,this research describes the reproductive ecology of a population of ninia atrata snakes inhabiting an oil palm ***,through a multivariate approach,we explored the main drivers of reproductive output in *** showed that prey abundance and food intake were crucial variables contributing to reproductive *** linear regression models showed that neonates had high sensitivity(R2=55.29%)to extreme changes in climate,which was strongly related to slug and snail abundance variability and microhabitat *** cycles were markedly different between the sexes,being continuous in males and cyclical in *** this variation,reproductive cycles at the population level were seasonal *** recruitment of neonates all year,multiple clutches,high mating frequency,and continuous sperm production characterized the reproductive phenology of *** addition,a significant number of previtellogenic females presented oviductal sperm as well as uterine scars,suggesting a high precocity in the *** main drivers of reproductive output also differed between the *** females,clutch size and secondary follicle variability were highly related to stomach bolus volume,fat body area,and body *** males,height of piles of palm leaves and body mass,rather than intrinsic reproductive traits,were the main drivers of sperm ***,in both cases,the relationship between body mass,prey abundance,and food intake suggests that *** follows the income breeding strategy to compensate for reproductive costs and to maximize fitness.

Evaluation of Multiplicative Weight of Covariance Matrix on Hybrid Data Assimilation Schemes

This research develops a comparative study between different multiplicative weights that are assigned to the covariance matrix that represents the background error in two hybrid assimilation schemes: 3DEnVAR and 4DEnVAR. These weights are distributed between the static and time-invariant matrix and the matrix generated from the perturbations of a previous ensemble. The assigned values are 25%, 50%, and 75%, always having as a reference the ensemble matrix. The experiments are applied to the short-range Prediction System (SisPI) that works operationally at the Institute of Meteorology. The impact of Tropical Storm Eta on november 7 and 8, 2020 was selected as a study case. The results suggest that by giving the main weight to the ensemble matrix more realistic solutions are achieved because it shows a better representation of the synoptic flow. On the other hand, it is observed that 3DEnVAR method is more sensitive to multiplicative weight change of the first guess. More realistic results are obtained with 50% and 75% relations with 4DEnVAR method, whereas with 3DEnVAR a weight of 75% for the ensemble matrix is required.

Evaluation of Candidate Predictors for Seasonal Precipitation Forecasting

This research proposes to carry out a principal component analysis using the maximum covariance method, with the aim of finding the most robust spatio-temporal relationships between several candidate predictors and the accumulated monthly precipitation recorded in Cuba during the period 1980-2020. This process will make it possible to establish quantitative relationships that, together with theoretical considerations, make it possible to reduce the list of predictors to be used for the purpose of obtaining seasonal predictions. The values of the predictors are represented through monthly averages obtained from ERA5 reanalysis, while monthly accumulated precipitation data were obtained from a national-scope grid with 4 km of spatial resolution, used as predictand. The results obtained reflect the highest spatio-temporal correlation values with the first variability mode in all cases, indicating that the usual regime conditions are predominant and have a greater coupling with the precipitation variability in the analyzed temporal scale. In addition, they suggest that the candidates that explain the transport of moisture at low levels, as well as the gradients between the middle and lower troposphere, show the most robust associations. In the same way, the surface temperature of tropical Atlantic Sea, the flow related to Quasi-Biennial Oscillation and the thermodynamic indices, K Index and Galvez-Davison Index, present good degrees of association, for which reason they can be considered the most recommendable for carrying out forecasting experiments.

Gut passage of epigeous ectomycorrhizal fungi by two opportunistic mycophagous rodents

Mycophagists can influence fungal diversity within their home ranges by ensuring the continued and effective dispersal of spores from one site to another. However, the passage of spores through the digestive tract of vertebrates can affect the activity and viability of the spores ingested. This phenomenon has been rarely documented in opportunistic mycophagists consuming epigeous fungi. Using laboratory experiments, we investigated the activity and viability of spores of two epigeous ectomycorrhizal fungal species (Laccaria trichodermophoraandSuillus tomentosus) after passage through the digestive tract of two opportunistic mycophagous small rodents, the volcano mousePeromyscus alstoniand the deer mouseP. maniculatus. We found that passage through the gut of either species of rodent had a significant effect on spore activity and viability for both fungal species. The proportion of active spores (0.37–0.40) ofL. trichodermophorain the feces of both species of rodents was less than that recorded for the control (0.82). However, the proportion of active spores (0.64–0.73) ofS. tomentosusin the feces of each species of rodent was higher than in the control (0.40). On the other hand, the viability of spores was lower (0.26–0.30 inL. trichodermophoraand 0.60–0.69 inS. tomentosus) for both fungi when consumed by either rodent relative to the controls (0.90 inL. trichodermophoraand 0.82 inS. tomentosus). These findings suggest that these rodent species may be effective dispersers of both epigeous fungi.

Celecoxib enhances the detoxification of diethylnitrosamine in rat liver cancer

AIM:To study the effect of celecoxib(CXB) on diethylnitrosamine activation through the regulation of cytochrome P450 in a hepatocarcinogenesis ***:Six-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into fi ve groups,a non-treated group(nT) ,a diethylnitrosamine-treated group(DEn) ,a DEn+CXB-treated group(DEn+CXB) ,and CXB 8 d-treated and CXB 32 d-treated *** effects of celecoxib on the enzymatic activities of CYP1A1,2A,2B1/2,and 2E1 were assessed in hepatic microsomes 24 h after DEn *** in CYP1A1 and CYP2B1/2 protein expression were also *** rate of DEn metabolism was measured by the production of the deethylation metabolite acetaldehyde,and the denitrosation metabolite ***:DEn+CXB administration produced a significant increase in the enzymatic activities of CYP2B1/2 and 1A1,whereas it did not change the activities of CYP2A and 2E1,compared to that of the DEn *** treatment for eight days did not produce a signif icant effect on enzymatic activity when compared to the nT group;however,when it was administered for prolonged times(CXB 32 d group) ,the enzymatic activities were increased in a similar pattern to those in the DEn+CXB *** observed increase in the enzymatic activities in the DEn+CXB group was accompanied by an increase in the CYP2B1/2 protein levels;no changes were observed in the levels of *** vitro,CXB increased the denitrosation of DEn,a pathway of metabolic *** addition of SKF-525A,a preferential inhibitor of CYP2B,abrogated the denitrosation of ***:These results suggest that the mechanism of action of CXB involves enhancement of the detoxif ication of DEn by an increasing denitrosation via CYP2B1/2.

Five Experimental Tests on the 5-Qubit IBM Quantum Computer

The 5-qubit quantum computer prototypes that IBM has given open access to on the cloud allow the implementation of real experiments on a quantum processor. We present the results obtained in five experimental tests performed on these computers: dense coding, quantum Fourier transforms, Bell’s inequality, Mermin’s inequalities (up to n=5) and the construction of the prime state . These results serve to assess the functioning of the IBM 5Q chips.
