Pion emission in α-particle interactions with various targets of nuclear emulsion detector

The behavior of relativistic hadron multiplicity for 4He-nucleus interactions is investigated. The experi- ment is carried out at 2.1 A and 3.7 A GeV （Dubna energy） to search for the incident energy effect on the interactions inside different emulsion target nuclei. Data are presented in terms of the number of emitted relativistic hadrons in both forward and backward angular zones. The dependence on the target size is presented. For this purpose the statistical events are discriminated into groups according to the interactions with H, CnO, Em, and AgBr target nuclei. The separation of events, into the mentioned groups, is executed based on Glauber＇s multiple scattering theory approach. Features suggestive of a decay mechanism seem to be a characteristic of the backward emission of relativistic hadrons. The results strongly support the assumption that the relativistic hadrons may already be emitted during the de-excitation of the excited target nucleus, in a behavior like that of compound-nucleus disintegration. Regarding the limiting fragmentation hypothesis beyond 1 A GeV, the target size is the main parameter affecting the backward production of the relativistic hadron. The incident energy is a principal factor responsible for the forward relativistic hadron production, implying that this system of particle production is a creation system. However, the target size is an effective parameter as well as the projectile size considering the geometrical concept regarded in the nuclear fireball model. The data are analyzed in the framework of the FRITIOF model.

Water stress is a critical environmental adversity that significantly impacts the growth,development,and yield of flax *** this study,flax seeds were cultivated under different water irrigation requirements(WIR)(100%,75%,and 50%)to investigate the effects of exogenously supplied nitric oxide(nO)donor sodium nitroprusside(SnP)as foliar treatments at concentrations of 0.0 mmol/L,0.5 mmol/L,1.0 mmol/L,and 2.0 mmol/*** stress led to a significant decrease in plant growth,photosynthetic pigments,yield components such as oil and total carbohydrate *** also resulted in an increase in leaf H2O2 production,lipid peroxidation levels and activities of enzymatic antioxidants including polyphenol oxidase,superoxide dismutase,and nitrate reductase ***,foliar application of SnP improved photosynthetic pigments and antioxidant defense system which mitigated the negative impact of water stress on growth and yield productivity by reducing oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species *** use of SnP also decreased H_(2)O_(2) accumulation levels,lipid peroxidation levels,and improved membrane *** treatment at concentration of 2 mmol/L showed superior results compared to other concentrations with extremely significant increases observed in yield characteristics such as oil content,total carbohydrate percentages,and unsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids ratio.

BACKGROUnD Oral candidiasis(OC)is an oral health disease that could influence patients’oral health quality of *** To estimate prevalence of OC among disabled and non-disabled individuals and its potential risk factors in the Al-Baha region,Saudi *** An observational cross-sectional study was carried out among 148 disabled and non-disabled *** technique of concentrated oral rinse employing the Sabouraud Dextrose Agar medium accompanied with 0.05%chloramphenicol was conducted to assess and isolate *** examination using the World Health Organization guidelines was conducted to examine participants’oral hea-lth status.A pre-designed questionnaire was also used to evaluate sociodemo-graphic,medical history,and oral hygiene habits of the studied *** Out of 148 participants(n=57,38%)had colonized *** of the studied population had visible Candida ***,Candida was found in the oral rinses without the subject presenting any lesions or issues caused by Candida(asymptomatic colonization).The most common prevalent OC among participants were Candida albicans,Candida glabrata,Candida dubliniensis,Candida krusei,Candida tropicalis,and Candida parapsilosis(n=35,61%;n=8,14%;n=6,10%;n=5,9%;n=2,4%;and n=1,2%)***,smoking,poor plaque,and gingival status were key potential risk factors that significantly associated with candida’s density and presence(P=0.001,P=0.001,P=0.01,and P=0.01)*** status had no statistically significant effect on presence and density of *** The prevalence of OC is almost third of the studied population;thus,may provoke a need to develop preventive strategies to reduce the OC rate and establish solid treatment plans.

Octreotide ameliorates gastric lesions in chronically mild stressed rats

AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers and possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHODS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable random stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for *** was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 and 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress ***-and microscopical assessments were made,in addition to quantification of plasma corticosterone and gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, and apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) and confirmed ***,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,Pndin E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),and caspase-3 activity (2.4±0.14 OD/mg protein,P=0.002).Conversely,CMS mitigated interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%and 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose *** beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%and 9%from CMS,P=0.01)and reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. COnCLUSIOn:The current investigation provides evidence that exposure to CMS induces gastric ulceration, which was alleviated by administration of octreotide possibly possessing antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-apoptotic actions.

Preparation of PVC/PVP composite polymer membranes via phase inversion process for water treatment purposes

In this work, new composite membranes were successfully prepared via phase inversion technique using polyvinyl chloride(PVC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) as polymers and tetrahydrofuran(THF) and n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(nMP) as solvents. The prepared membranes have been characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM), and fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The scanning electron microscope results prove that the prepared membranes are smooth and their pores are distributed throughout the whole surface and bulk body of the membrane without any visible cracks. The stress–strain mechanical test showed an excellent mechanical behavior enhanced by the presence of PVP in the prepared membranes. The membranes performance results showed that the salt rejection reached 98% with a high flux. This, in turn, makes the prepared membranes can be applied for sea and brackish water treatment through membrane distillation technology.

Ultra-Wideband Log Periodic Dipole Antenna (LPDA) for Wireless Communication Applications

This paper proposes a printed log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) for ultra wide bandwidth (UWB) applications. The antenna comprises of cascading four U shaped elements of different line lengths with balun circuit to improve the antenna impedance matching. The proposed antenna dimensions are 50 × 50 mm2 with FR4 substrate thickness 0.8 mm. Full-wave EM solver HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) is used for modeling the proposed antenna. The pulse distortion is verified by the measured the proposed antenna performance with virtually steady group delay. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed antenna exhibits good impedance matching, stable radiation patterns throughout the whole operating frequency bands, acceptable gain and stable group delay over the entire operating band. An UWB extended from 1.85 GHz to 11 GHz is obtained, and the average antenna gain is about 5.5 dBi over the operating band with peak gain around 6.5 dBi and 70% average radiation efficiency.

Investigation of KTiOPO4 nanocrystals by means of second-harmonic light emission

The finding of nonlinear nanometric-sized probes is of key importance for the development of nonlinear microscopy in physical as well as biological sciences. We isolate nonlinear KTiOPO4 nanocrystals and study them by second-harmonic generation microscopy （SHGM） and atomic force microscopy （AFM） independently. With both polarization analysis and defocused imaging of the emitted second harmonic field, we extract the Euler angles of the crystalline axes of a single nanocrystal. A balanced coherent optical homodyne detection shows the coherent nature of the nanocrystal nonlinear emission and allows a phase measurement of the emitted second-harmonic field. These features make the KTiOPO4 nanocrystal a good candidate for a vectorial probe of electromagnetic near fields.
