Awaren.ss, kn.wledge, beliefs an. the sociocultural an. religious practices, are believed to in.luen.e the treatmen.-seekin. behavior of people as well as their uptake of services. This study was carried out to assess the awaren.ss an. kn.wledge about glaucoma, an. the attitude to glaucoma screen.n. in.n.hokko village in.Igbeagu commun.ty, Izzi Local Govern.en. Area, Ebon.i State, n.geria. This was a cross-section.l descriptive study. Data were collected usin. an.in.erviewer-admin.stered question.aire an. an.lyzed usin. SPSS 22. Results show that a total of 402 respon.en.s— 228 (56.7%) women.an. 174 (43.3%) men.were in.erviewed. The mean.age of respon.en.s was 31.7 ± 11.9 years;82.8% of the respon.en.s had secon.ary education.or less;53% were married;an. 38.1% were farmers. On.y 21.1% of the respon.en.s were aware of glaucoma. Gen.er, education. an. positive family history were sign.fican.ly associated with awaren.ss. On.y 6.3% of the respon.en.s had good kn.wledge about the disease. A large proportion.of respon.en.s (62.1%) exhibited a positive attitude towards glaucoma screen.n.;however, on.y 5% had ever un.ergon. glaucoma screen.n.. We con.lude that glaucoma awaren.ss an. kn.wledge were poor in.this rural commun.ty, but a high proportion.of respon.en.s had a positive attitude towards glaucoma screen.n.. We therefore recommen. a focused commun.ty health education.campaign.that will raise awaren.ss an. impart adequate kn.wledge about glaucoma. Eye care providers should make use of every opportun.ty to con.ey in.ormation.on.glaucoma to patien.s.
