Maize is a staple food in many sub-Saharan African countries, grown on large surfaces and with high production. However, maize’s cultivation is often confronted with attacks by the fall armyworm, which considerably reduces production. Thus, the use of biological agents in the control of the fall armyworm would contribute effectively to the sustainability of agriculture. It is in this context that this study, conducted at the La Mé station of the national Centre for Agronomy Research, aims to test the effectiveness of Rhynocoris rapax, a powerful predator of various insect families, on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda, for biological control of this maize pest in Côte d’Ivoire. Therefore, 3 batches of 1 adult individuals of Rhynocoris rapax were captured in trial plots set up at the La Mé station. These individuals were then put in contact with 3 batches of 5, 20 and 40 larvae of the pest in rearing boxes at an average temperature of 26.4°C and an average relative humidity of 60%, in order to evaluate the efficiency of the predation. The results showed that Rhynocoris rapax kills more larvae when these are in large numbers. The mortality of the high number of larvae was observed during the first three days, probably due to the voracity and aggressiveness of Rhynocoris rapax that period. So R. rapax is a potential predator of fall armyworm and should be protected.

Fossil fuels cover around 80% of global energy consumption. However, the problems linked to their use justify the choice of using biofuel. In order to reduce as much as possible, diesel rate, an increase in the number of additives may be considered. Thus, in this work, the study of the used frying oil (UFO), bioethanol and diesel ternary system was undertaken. It emerges from this study that the addition of bioethanol reduces the viscosity and the density of the ternary system and permits a 90% substitution rate for diesel between the UFO and bioethanol. Finally, the percentage of oil becomes 40% after adding alcohol compared to the binary diesel crude vegetable oil mixture where this rate is 30%.

Influence of Mineral Fertilization on the Capacity of nodulation of Three Species of Legumes(Groundnut,Cowpea and Soybean)

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) and soybean (Vigna radiata) are the main food legumes grown in Cote d’Ivoire and the localities of Haut-Sassandra. These legumes are highly valued for their nutritional, agronomic and economic value. Groundnut, cowpea and soybean are the main food legumes grown in Cote d’Ivoire and in the localities of Haut-Sassandra. On the other hand, Ivorian soils are characterized by a tendency towards acidification and a decrease in the content of nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen which have a direct impact on the products. To restore soil fertility, farmers use mineral fertilization. However, this fertilization has an influence on the nodulation of these legumes. The study took place at Jean Lorougnon University. We adopted a completely random experimental block device. The parameters measured included the number of nodules, the length and weight of the plant, the length and weight of the root system. Our results showed that mineral fertilization reduced the nodulation capacity of legumes. However, a small dose of phosphorus ( g) would be required for early growing legumes.

Influence of Post-Harvest Storage Technologies on Weight and Rate Losses and Sensory Profile of Cola nuts (<i>Cola nitida</i>) Produced in Côte d’Ivoire

The conservation of cola nuts (Cola nitida) poses a real problem in Côte d’Ivoire because of the post-harvest losses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of post-harvest technologies on organoleptic and physical properties of cola nut during storage. A biopesticide, glucose syrup and biopesticide + glucose syrup were applied to fresh cola nuts before conditioning and kept at 28°C for 6 weeks. Physicochemical and sensory analyses were performed to check the quality of the nuts during storage. The results showed that the biopesticide keep cola nuts better than the others methods with only 11.66% ± 3.04% and 13.66% ± 3.95% of loss rates for white and red cola nuts respectively. Cola nuts treated with bio-pesticide retain significantly their freshness with 62.00% ± 1.15% of moisture for white nuts and 64.00% ± 2.00% of moisture for red nuts compared to those treated with glucose syrup and bio-pesticide + glucose syrup (56.66% ± 1.15%). Cola nuts treated with biopesticide have a better acceptability compared to those subjected to others treatments. The use of biopesticide for the storage of cola nuts minimizes the losses and maintains the quality whatever the type of cola.

The Oryzenin’s Effect on Di, Tri and Quadri-Saccharide Degradation. An Investigation by a Mixed Method: OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1)

The paddy rice degradation remains a concern for research;the chemical phenomena underlying this process persists unknown. This research aims to identify the mechanism of starch degradation. It determines the nature of the reactions between two, three and four synthons of amylose with oryzenin using theoretical methods. The OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1) level of theory is performed on four monomers and eight complexes. Frequencies make it possible to obtain energy and spectroscopic quantities. Calculations after geometry optimization. Following this, a “single point” allows exploiting the “natural Bond Orbital (nBO)” analysis. The first three parameters suggest that the main interactions between oryzenin and amylose arise through O29-H30…O46 hydrogen bonds (HB). Furthermore, this result posits that the length of the amylose doesn’t influence this reaction. The nBO analysis shows that this component of starch degrades first at the end of the chain to produce monosaccharides;it can also alter in the middle of the chain to give disaccharides.

Influence of Active Charcoal and Plant Position on Some Morphological Parameters of a Local Variety of Okra (<i>Abelmoschus caillei</i>)

Okra is a plant rich in nutrients and is very well consumed in Côte d’Ivoire. Despite its many benefits, the production of this vegetable is still weak in our country. The reasons for this include the inadequate selection of varieties, the high cost of inputs and the poverty of the soil for its cultivation. One of the alternatives for sustained production is to solve the problem of soil fertility. In the case of our work, the aim is to improve the yield of okra. To achieve this goal, experiments were undertaken to evaluate the impact of activated charcoal on morphological parameters of a local okra variety. For this purpose, the charcoal used was activated in three different times (activation time equal to 0 days, 15 days and 30 days). The experimental device used is a split-plot with three repetitions, each comprising 12 elementary plots. The various charcoals were buried the same day. Then, the seedling was done with two positions including outside position and inside position. Observations were made on 360 plants. An analysis of the variances was carried out on the morphological parameters. Fruit mass is the variable most influenced by activated charcoal. Thus, the greatest value of the mass was obtained with the charcoal CA0, with outside position.

Description of Post-Stroke Cognitive Disorders at Abidjan University Hospitals, Côte d’Ivoire

Stroke patients often experience motor deficits and cognitive problems after a stroke. Objective: To improve our understanding of the cognitive consequences of stroke. Method: a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study was conducted over 12-month period in the neurology departments of the Cocody and Treichville Hospitals in Côte d’Ivoire. Results: Out of 724 patients admitted to the neurology department, 415 (57.32%) were stroke patients, of which 145 (34.94%) were screened. The frequency of global cognitive functioning impairment was 86.21%, significantly higher than the frequency of patients without impairment, which was 13.79%. The study focused on detailing the cognitive status of stroke patients in neurology departments, assessing several cognitive functions during the subacute phase of stroke. These functions included global cognitive functioning, executive functions, language and memory. The frequency of post-stroke cognitive impairment is high among stroke patients in Abidjan. This frequency is comparable to figures found in Subsaharian stroke populations. Demographic and clinical characteristics studied included age, gender, education level, employment status, vascular diseases and cerebral affected area. Among these characteristics, only the education level and the cerebral affected area have been found significant. Conclusion: The incidence of cognitive impairment after a stroke is significantly high among stroke patients in Abidjan.

Objective:To evaluate the attitudes and practices of oncosexology in the management of breast and prostate cancer in Côte d’***:A cross-sectional,multicenter,descriptive and analytical survey carried out over 02 months from 1 november to 31 December 2022,among doctors involved in the management of breast and prostate cancer in Côte d’***:78 physicians on 114 participated in the study,with a participation rate of 79.5%.Only one doctor discussed the sexual risks associated with cancer with all his patients and 7.7%of doctors said they never broached questions of sexuality with their *** approach to sexuality was strongly associated with occupation(p=0.002).A request for oncosexological care was initiated by the patient and the partner respectively in 3.8%and 25.6%of *** 5.1%of physicians claimed to have received training in *** 92.3%of cases,doctors would like to have training on this ***:On the questions relating to sexuality,Physicians are not addressing sexuality with their patients diagnosed with breast or prostate *** lack of training in this area appears to be the main reason for this lack of communication and onco-sexological care.

Detection of Epilepsy Cases in newborns

Epilepsy is a very common worldwide neurological disorder that can affect a person’s quality of life at any age. People with epilepsy typically have recurrent seizures that can lead to injury or in some cases even death. Curing epilepsy requires risky surgery. If not, the patient may be subjected to a long drug treatment associated with lifestyle advice without guarantee of total recovery. However, regardless of the type of treatment performed, late treatment necessarily creates psychological instability in the patient. It is therefore important to be able to diagnose the disease as early as possible if we desire that the patient does not suffer from its consequences on their mental health. That is why the study aims to propose a model for detecting epilepsy in order to be able to identify it as early as possible, especially in newborns. The objective of the article is to propose a model for detecting epilepsy using data from electroencephalogram signals from 10 newborns. This model developed using the extra trees classifier technique offers the possibility of predicting epilepsy in infants with an accuracy of around 99.4%.

Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load of Juice from Edible Wild Fruits (Adansonia digitata, Tamarindus indica and Parkia biglobosa) Consumed in Cote d’Ivoire

The diabetes mellitus is a public health problem in C?te d’Ivoire. The Glycemic index (GI) and the Glycemic load (GL) determination of commonly consumed foods such as juice fruits is an alternative to prevent metabolic diseases. This study carried out three wild fruits locally named Baobab (Adansonia digitata), Tomi (Tamarindus indica) and néré (Parkia biglobosa) collected at maturity stage. The juices from the pulp of fruits have been elaborated, pasteurized, submitted to microbiological and physicochemical analysis before GIs/GLs determination. Ten healthy subjects with body mass index and age average respectively 21.57 ± 1.06 and 28 ± 2 years old tested the three juices and glucose (50 g) as reference food. Blood samples have been collected at 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 min after foods consumption. The GIs/GLs has been determined according to ISO/FDI 26642:2010 protocol. Data showed that pasteurized juices has a weak microbiologic load (1.0102 - 2.4102 of Mesophylls Aerobic Germs) and not contain pathogen germs. The GI and GL of néré juice are high with respective values of 89.54 ± 1.63 and 29.22 ± 4.09 whereas those of Baobab and Tomi juice are moderate with respective GI/GL values of 66.48 ± 2.12/13.24 ± 1.99 and 60.41 ± 2.63/12.87 ± 1.67. The juice of néré should be consumed occasionally when those of Baobab and Tomi should be consumed with moderation. It would be suitable to know more about the GI and GL of all the juice fruits produced locally so as to prevent efficiently diabetes mellitus in the country.
