BACKGROUND Colonic perfusion status can be assessed easily by indocyanine green(ICG)angiography to predict ischemia related anastomotic complications during laparoscopic colorectal ***,various parameter-based perfusion analysis have been studied for quantitative evaluation,but the analysis results differ depending on the use of quantitative parameters due to differences in vascular anatomical ***,it can help improve the accuracy and consistency by artificial intelligence(AI)based real-time analysis microperfusion(AIRAM).AIM To evaluate the feasibility of AIRAM to predict the risk of anastomotic complication in the patient with laparoscopic colorectal cancer *** The ICG curve was extracted from the region of interest(ROI)set in the ICG fluorescence video of the laparoscopic colorectal ***-processing was performed to reduce AI performance degradation caused by external environment such as background,light source reflection,and camera shaking using MATLAB 2019 on an I7-8700k Intel central processing unit(CPU)*** learning and evaluation were performed by dividing into a training patient group(n=50)and a test patient group(n=15).Training ICG curve data sets were classified and machine learned into 25 ICG curve patterns using a self-organizing map(SOM)*** predictive reliability of anastomotic complications in a trained SOM network is verified using test *** AI-based risk and the conventional quantitative parameters including T1/2max,time ratio(TR),and rising slope(RS)were consistent when colonic perfusion was favorable as steep increasing ICG curve *** the ICG graph pattern showed stepped rise,the accuracy of conventional quantitative parameters decreased,but the AI-based classification maintained accuracy *** receiver operating characteristic curves for conventional parameters and AI-based classification were comparable for predicting the anastomotic complication *** pe

A water cyclone,developed to collect and preserve biological aerosols in a small liquid flow,was interfaced with a total organic carbon analyzer to measure the aerosol organic and inorganic carbon *** total carbon was compared against parallel measurements of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) using a Sunset Real Time ECOC Analyzer between 12-29 January 2009.A National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) like protocol for the measurements included four temperature steps ending at 840 ℃ for OC under a helium atmosphere followed by two temperature steps ramped to 850 ℃ for EC in a helium-oxygen atmosphere,Carbon data comparison between the water cyclone-TOC and the TOC measured by the analyzer indicated good agreement (r2 =0.82,linear regression slope =0.98,p < 0.001).Analyses of the relationship between total water organic carbon and OC,investigated using data sets from case studies spanning two different events,suggested it was possible to distinguish between the primary and secondary sources.

Biodegradable stents made of magnesium(Mg)and its alloys have been developed to minimize persistent inflammation or in-stent restenosis,which are the main problems for permanent ***,their rapid corrosion behavior under physiological conditions leads to poor vascular compatibility and premature structural failure,which remains an important unsolved clinical ***,we demonstrate a new strategy for solving this problem by combining poly(ether imide)(PEI)coating and subsequent tantalum(Ta)ion *** PEI coating covers the whole surface of the Mg stent uniformly via a spray coating technique and provides Mg with superior corrosion resistance and stable sirolimus-carrying *** ion implantation is conducted by a sputtering-based plasma immersion ion implantation technique only onto the luminal surface of the PEI-coated Mg *** extremely short processing time(<30 s)permits preservation of the PEI coating’s corrosion protection ability and sirolimus loading *** addition,a Ta-implanted skin layer that forms on the topmost surface of the PEI coating plays an effective role in not only preventing a rapid release of sirolimus from the surface but also improving the PEI coating’s surface *** on in vitro cellular response and blood compatibility tests,Ta ion implantation leads to the improvement of endothelial cell adhesion/proliferation and suppression of platelet adhesion/activation regardless of sirolimus *** results indicate that the combination of PEI coating and Ta ion implantation has significant innovative potential to provide excellent vascular compatibility and prevent in-stent restenosis and thrombosis.

In this study, we prepared horn-like ZnO structures on carbon films（ZnO/CF） by electrodeposition and decorated the ZnO horns with different metals（Ag, Au, and Pt） via photodeposition（M-ZnO/CF）. Using M-ZnO/CF as photocatalysts, we examined ways to enhance solar hydrogen production from various points of view, such as modifying the intrinsic physical properties and thermodynamics of the materials, and varying the chemical environment during M-ZnO/CF fabrication. In particular, we focused on the effects of the carbon film and metals in M-ZnO/CF hybrid photocatalysts on solar hydrogen production. The type of metal nanoparticles is an important factor in solar hydrogen production because the deposition rate and electrical conductivity of each metal affect the proton-water reduction ability.

Preparation of human decellularized peripheral nerve allograft using amphoteric detergent and nuclease

Animal studies have shown that amphoteric detergent and nuclease(DNase I and ribonuclease A) is the most reliable decellularization method of the peripheral nerve. however, the optimal combination of chemical reagents for decellularization of human nerve allograft needs further investigation. To find the optimal protocol to remove the immunogenic cellular components of the nerve tissue and preserve the basal lamina and extracellular matrix and whether the optimal protocol can be applied to larger-diameter human peripheral nerves, in this study, we decellularized the median and sural nerves from the cadavers with two different methods: nonionic and anionic detergents(Triton X-100 and sodium deoxycholate) and amphoteric detergent and nuclease(3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate(CHAPS), deoxyribonuclease I, and ribonuclease A). All cellular components were successfully removed from the median and sural nerves by amphoteric detergent and nuclease. Not all cellular components were removed from the median nerve by nonionic and anionic detergent. Both median and sural nerves treated with amphoteric detergent and nuclease maintained a completely intact extracellular matrix. Treatment with nonionic and anionic detergent decreased collagen content in both median and sural nerves, while the amphoteric detergent and nuclease treatment did not reduce collagen content. In addition, a contact cytotoxicity assay revealed that the nerves decellularized by amphoteric detergent and nuclease was biocompatible. Strength failure testing demonstrated that the biomechanical properties of nerves decellularized with amphoteric detergent and nuclease were comparable to those of fresh controls. Decellularization with amphoteric detergent and nuclease better remove cellular components and better preserve extracellular matrix than decellularization with nonionic and anionic detergents, even in large-diameter human peripheral nerves. Macroalgae have long been used as biological indicators of marine ecosystem health worldwide due to their ecological importance and sensitivity to environmental stress.A number of previous studies have utilized macroalgal communities in monitoring surveys of environmental *** study examined the characteristics and patterns of marine macroalgal communities in the Yellow Sea off the western coast of *** were analyzed for the number of species,biomass,and coverage ratio by macroalgal *** the study period,82 macroalgal species(10 green algae,17 brown algae,and 55 red algae)were identified at the five study sites,with the highest number of species found at Gwanrido and Uido(both containing 41 species)and the lowest at Daeijakdo(27 species).The average biomass(via dry weight)was 98.63 g/m^(2),consisting of green algae(8.39 g/m^(2)),brown algae(35.08 g/m^(2)),and red algae(55.16 g/m^(2)).The dominant macroalgae species in terms of biomass were Corallina pilulifera,Sargassum thunbergii,and Ulva australis in the intertidal zones,and Botryocladia wrightii and Gelidium elegans in the subtidal ***,evenness,and diversity indices based on the biomass of abundant species were 5.08,0.65,and 2.30,respectively,over the entire study *** on the evaluation of the environmental states by the community indices,overall,the Ecological Evaluation Index of macroalgae communities in the study area was marked as“Good-Moderate”,but was determined as“ModerateLow”at several sites during *** results can be a direct approach in the assessment of coastal habitats in which anthropogenic as well as climate change influences persist.

The fabrication of an internal diffraction grating with photoinduced refractive index modification in planar hybrid germanium-silica plates was demonstrated using low-density plasma formation excited by a high-intensity femtosecond (150 fs) Ti:sapphire laser (λp=790 nm).The refractive index modifications with diameters ranging from 400 nm to 3 μm were photoinduced after plasma formation occurred upon irradiation with peak intensities of more than 2×1013 W/*** graded refractive index profile was fabricated to be a symmetric around from the center of the point at which low-density plasma occurred.

Polyurethane-based Actuators with Various Polyols

This study dealt with the electrostrictive responses of polyurethane （PU） actuators with different microphase separation structure, which was a promising candidate for a material used in polymer actuators. In order to construct PUs with different higher-order structure, PUs with various types of polyol were synthesized： poly（neopentyl glycol adipate）（PNAD）, poly（tetramethylene glycol）（PTMG）, and poly（dimethyl siloxnae）（PDMS）. Synthesized PU was characterized by Fourier transform-infrared （FT-IR） spectroscopy and gel per- meation chromatography （GPC）. Thermal analysis and mechanical properties of PU films were carried out with differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and UTM （universal testing machine）, respectively. And PU actuator was formed in a type of monomorph, which was made by carbon black electrodes on the both surfaces of PU film by spin coating method. Actuation behavior was mainly influenced on microphase separation struc- ture and mechanical property of PU. In result, PU actuator with PNAD, polyester urethane, had the largest field-induced displacement.

Although the essential role of messenger RNA methylation in the nucleus is increasingly understood,the nature of ribosomal RNA(rRNA)methyltransferases and the role of rRNA methylation in chloroplasts remain largely unknown.A recent study revealed that CMAL(for Chloroplast mraW-Like)is a chloroplast-localized rRNA methyltransferase that is responsible for N4-methylcytidine(m^(4)C)in 16S chloroplast rRNA in Arabidopsis *** this study,we further examined the role of CMAL in chloroplast biogenesis and function,development,and hormone *** cmal mutant showed reduced chlorophyll biosynthesis,photosynthetic activity,and growth-defect phenotypes,including severely stunted stems,fewer siliques,and lower seed *** cmal mutant was hypersensitive to chloroplast translation inhibitors,such as lincomycin and erythromycin,indicating that the m^(4)C methylation defect in the 16S rRNA leads to a reduced translational activity in ***,the stunted stem of the cmal mutant was partially rescued by exogenous gibberellic acid or *** cmal mutant grew poorer than wild type,whereas the CMAL-overexpressing transgenic Arabidopsis plants grew better than wild type in the presence of abscisic ***,these results indicate that CMAL is an indispensable rRNA methyltransferase in chloroplasts and is crucial for chloroplast biogenesis and function,photosynthesis,and hormone response during plant growth and development.
