Ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of SrZrO_3-modified Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5)TiO_3 lead-free ceramics

The lead-free SrZrO3-modified Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3(BNT-SZ100 x, with x=0-0.15) ceramics were fabricated by a conventional solid-state reaction method. The effects of SZ addition on BNT ceramics were investigated through X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), ferroelectric and electric field-induced strain characterizations. XRD analysis revealed a pure perovskite phase without any traces of secondary phases. Ferroelectric and bipolar field induced-strain curves indicated a disruption of ferroelectric order upon SZ addition into BNT ceramics. A maximum value of remnant polarization(32 μC/cm2) and piezoelectric constant(102 pC/N) was observed at 5%(mole fraction) of SZ. Maximum value of the electric field-induced strain(Smax=0.24%) corresponding to normalized strain(Smax/Emax= d*33= 340 pm/V) was obtained at BNT-SZ9.

The hybrid functionally graded materials(FGM) of hydroxyapatite(HA), stainless steel 316L(SS316L) and carbon nanotubes(CNT) were synthesized for biomedical implants. Three different types of FGM were produced by the combination of SS316 L and CNT to reinforce HA in discrete layers of FGM. In the first type of FGM, concentration of SS316 L was varied from 10% to 40%(mass fraction) with an increment of 10% to reinforce micro HA. In the second type of FGM, 0.5%(mass fraction) functionalized CNT was added by maintaining the rest of composition as that of the first type of FGM. In the third type of FGM, mixture of micro and nano HA(mass ratio1:1) was used, keeping rest of composition similar to the second type of FGM. All types of FGM were subjected to uniaxial compaction and sintered by pressureless sintering technique at similar compaction and sintering parameters. The results show that the densification is enhanced with the addition of CNT and nanocrystalline HA in the FGM. Hardness and fracture toughness increase in both FGM reinforced with CNT, but the increase of the hardness and fracture toughness are more pronounced in FGM with micro and nanocrystalline HA.

The authors establish operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorems on Triebel spaces on R^N, where the required smoothness of the multiplier functions depends on the dimension N and the indices of the Triebel spaces. This is used to give a sufficient condition of the maximal regularity in the sense of Triebel spaces for vector-valued Cauchy problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Objective:To study the anti-inflammatory action and cellular mechanism of Oplopanax ***:A hot water extract of OE(WOE)was prepared and a major constituent,syringin,was successfully *** content in WOE was found to be 214.0 p.g/g dried plant(w/w).Their anti-inflammatory activities were examined using RAW 264.7 macrophages and a mouse model of croton oil-induced ear ***:In lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 cells,a mouse macrophage cell line,WOE was found to significantly and strongly inhibit cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)-induced prostaglandin E2(PGE2)production[half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)=135.2μg/mL]and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)-induced NO production(IC50=242.9μg/mL).In the same condition,WOE was revealed to inhibit NO production by downregulating iNOS expression,mainly by interrupting mitogen activated protein kinases(MAPKs)/activator protein-1(AP-1)*** activation of all three major MAPKs,p38 MAPK,extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK),and c-Jun N-terminal kinase,was inhibited by WOE(50-300μg/mL).On the other hand,WOE reduced PGE2 production by inhibiting COX-2 enzyme activity,but did not affect COX-2 expression *** addition,WOE inhibited the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α.In croton oil-induced ear edema in mice,oral administration of WOE(50-300 mg/kg)dose-dependently inhibited edematic ***:Water extract of OE exhibited multiple anti-inflammatory action mechanisms and may have potential for treating inflammatory disorders.

Cloud Radiative Effects and Changes Simulated by the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 Models

Using 32 CMIP5（Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5） models, this study examines the veracity in the simulation of cloud amount and their radiative effects（CREs） in the historical run driven by observed external radiative forcing for 1850-2005, and their future changes in the RCP（Representative Concentration Pathway） 4.5 scenario runs for2006-2100. Validation metrics for the historical run are designed to examine the accuracy in the representation of spatial patterns for climatological mean, and annual and interannual variations of clouds and CREs. The models show large spread in the simulation of cloud amounts, specifically in the low cloud amount. The observed relationship between cloud amount and the controlling large-scale environment are also reproduced diversely by various models. Based on the validation metrics,four models-ACCESS1.0, ACCESS1.3, Had GEM2-CC, and Had GEM2-ES-are selected as best models, and the average of the four models performs more skillfully than the multimodel ensemble *** models project global-mean SST warming at the increase of the greenhouse gases, but the magnitude varies across the simulations between 1 and 2 K, which is largely attributable to the difference in the change of cloud amount and distribution. The models that simulate more SST warming show a greater increase in the net CRE due to reduced low cloud and increased incoming shortwave radiation, particularly over the regions of marine boundary layer in the subtropics. Selected best-performing models project a significant reduction in global-mean cloud amount of about-0.99% K^-1and net radiative warming of 0.46 W m^-2K^-1, suggesting a role of positive feedback to global warming.

Fold-thrust belts generally exhibit significant variations in structural styles such as differences in thrust geometries and frequencies in imbrication. A natural laboratory of this pattern is preserved in the central Alberta Foothills of the Canadian Rockies, where differences in thrust geometries are represented by the existence vs. non-existence of triangle zones. To seek the factors that make this difference in these regions in terms of structural geometry, stratigraphic thickness variations and mechanical stratigraphy of the sedimentary layers, structural interpretation is conducted based on admissible cross-sections and well log interpretations. In northern region, a backthrust is detached from an incompetent layer(*** Unit of the Wapiabi Formation), which gets thinner from the Foothills to the Plains, indicating that it is developed where the shale layers are pinched out where triangle zone is developed. Backthrust is also developed in the southern region, where mechanical strengths of strata(viz. Bearpaw Formation)increase toward the foreland. In the central region, however, only forethrusts are developed along the weak continuous decollement layers(viz. Turner Valley and Brazeau formations), forming an imbricate fan without development of the triangle zone. Incompetent layers such as the top Wapiabi(Nomad),Brazeau(Bearpaw), Coalspur and Paskapoo formations are also pinched out laterally, forming fault glide horizons in different stratigraphic levels in each region. These results indicate that, along the transport direction, triangle zone is developed in relation to the stratigraphic pinch out of the Nomad Unit in the northern region, and is formed associated with the variations in strengths of the layers constituting the Bearpaw Formation in the southern region. Influence of sulfides on the tribological properties of composites produced by pulse electric current sintering

Self-lubricating A1203-15wt% ZrO2 composites with sulfides, such as molybdenum disulfide （MoS2） and tungsten disulfide （WSz） serving as solid lubricants, were fabricated by using the pulse electric current sintering （PECS） technique. The coefficient of friction （COF） of the A1203-15wt% ZrO2 composite without/with sulfides was in the range of 0.37-0.48 and 0.27-0.49, respectively. As the amoant of sul- fides increased, the COF and the wear rate decreased. The reduction in COF and wear rate of the sulfide-containing composite is caused by a reduction in shear stresses between the specimen and the tribological medium due to the formation of a lubricating film resulting from the lamellar structure of sulfides located on the worn surface.
