Organization：A new focus on mine safety improvement in a complex operational and business environment

The daily operations in the mining industry are still a significant source of risk with regard to occupational safety and health(OS & H). Various research studies and statistical data world-wide show that the number of serious injuries and fatalities still remains high despite substantial efforts the industry has put in recent years in decreasing those numbers. This paper argues that the next level of safety performance will have to consider a transition from coping solely with workplace dangers, to a more systemic model taking organizational risks in consideration. In this aspect, lessons learned from the nuclear industry may be useful, as organizational learning processes are believed to be more universal than the technologies in which they are used. With the notable exception of major accidents, organizational performance has not received all the attention it deserves. A key element for reaching the next level of performance is to include organizational factors in low level events analyses, and approach the management as a risk control system. These factors will then appear not only in the event analysis,but in supervision activities, audits, change management and the like. Many recent event analyses across various industries have shown that organizational factors play a key role in creating conditions for triggering major accidents(aviation, railway transportation, nuclear industry, oil exploitation, mining, etc.).In this paper, a perspective that may be used in supervisory activities, self-assessments and minor events investigations, is presented. When ingrained in an organizational culture, such perspective has the highest potential for continuous safety improvement.

Kinetic Ising model in a time-dependent oscillating external magnetic field:effective-field theory

Recently, Shiet al. [2008 Phys. left. A 372 5922] have studied the dynamical response of the kinetic Ising model in the presence of a sinusoidal oscillating field and presented the dynamic phase diagrams by using an effective-field theory （EFT） and a mean-field theory （MFT）. The MFT results are in conflict with those of the earlier work of Tome and de Oliveira, [1990 Phys. Rev. A 41 4251]. We calculate the dynamic phase diagrams and find that our results are similar to those of the earlier work of Tome and de Oliveira; hence the dynamic phase diagrams calculated by Shiet al. are incomplete within both theories, except the low values of frequencies for the MFT calculation. We also investigate the influence of external field frequency （w） and static external field amplitude （h0） for both MFT and EFT calculations. We find that the behaviour of the system strongly depends on the values of w and h0.

glucagon-like peptide-2 exhibits protective effect on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats

glucagon-like peptide-2 （glP-2） has potent anti-inflammatory effects and protects against experimental ischemia/reperfusion （I/R） injury in pulmonary, intestinal, and myocardial tissue. However, its protective abilities against I/R injury in the liver are unknown. We investigated the potential role of glP-2 pretreatment on hepatic I/R injury in rats. A total of 24 rats were randomly divided into three groups （n = 8）. The first group was the control group; the second group was the vehicle-treated hepatic ischemia/reperfusion （HIR, vehicle saline-treated） group; and the third group was the glP-2 pretreated I/R （glP2-IR） group. Each rat in the third group was intraperitoneally administered 5 ~tg glP-2 for 5 d before the procedure. A portal triad was created to induce ischemia with a vascular atraumatic clamp. After 40 min, the clamp was released to initiate hepatic reperfusion for 6 h. Blood samples and tissue specimens from the fiver were obtained. Alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and total bilirubin levels significantly increased in the saline- treated HIR group （P 〈 0.001）, whereas glP-2 pretreatment significantly decreased their levels （P 〈 0.01）. Our data suggested that glP-2 pretreatment may have a protective effect on liver I/R injury. However, dose-response studies are necessary to determine the most effective dose.

This work aimed to tune the comprehensive properties of Fe-P-C-based amorphous system through investigating the role of microalloying process on the crystallization behavior,glass forming ability(gFA),soft magnetic features,and mechanical *** minor addition of elements into the system,it was found that the simultaneous microalloying of Ni and Co leads to the highest gFA,which was due to the optimization of compositional heterogeneity and creation of near-eutectic ***,the FeCoNiCuPC amorphous alloy exhibited the best anelastic/viscoplastic behavior under the nanoindentation test,which was owing to the intensified structural fluctuations in the ***,the improved plasticity by the extra Cu addition comes at the expense of magnetic properties,so that the saturation magnetization of this alloying system is significantly decreased compared to the FeCoPC amorphous alloy with the highest soft magnetic *** total,the results indicated that a combination of added elemental constitutes,i.e.,Fe69Co5Ni5Cu1P13C7 composition,provides an optimized state for the comprehensive properties in the alloying system.

Bivariate joint distribution analysis of the flood characteristics under semiparametric copula distribution framework for the Kelantan River basin in Malaysia

Flood is becoming the severe hydrologic issue at the Kelantan River basin in *** joint distribution analysis amongst multiple interacting flood characteristics,i.e.,flood peak discharge flow,volume,and duration series usually provide a comprehensive understanding of the hydrologic risk assessments through visualizing the multivariate exceedance probability or return *** traditional copulas-based methodology is frequently employed under parametric settings where parametric family functions are often employed to model univari-ate marginal distribution before capturing their dependence ***,no universal rules and literature are imposed to model any flood vectors through any fixed or predefined density function,which would follow the different distribution and needs to model by fitting most parsimonious ***,the copula function already relaxes the restriction of selecting marginal distributions from the same distribution ***,incorporation of non-parametric kernel density estimations or KDE would be much stable and less biased smoothing alternatives than the parametric *** this literature,the semi-parametric copula-based methodology is incorporated,where the flood marginals are modelled under the kernel functions and applied as a case study for 50 years annual maximum(AM)flood samples of the Kelantan River basin at the gulliemard Bridge gauge station in *** Archimedean families copulas(i.e.,Frank,gumbel and Clayton)and Elliptical copula(i.e.,gaussian copula)are tested,and thus best-fitted copulas are employed to model the bivariate joint distribution amongst flood characteristics,and which further employed to derive joint and conditional return periods.

Immunosuppression in organ transplantation was revolutionary for its time,but technological and population changes cast new light on its ***,metabolic syndrome(MS) is increasing as a public health issue,concomitantly increasing as an issue for post-orthotopic liver transplantation patients;yet the medications regularly used for immunosuppression contribute to dysfunctional *** mainstay immunosuppression involves the use of calcineurin inhibitors;these are potent,but nonspecifically disrupt intracellular signaling in such a way as to exacerbate the impact of MS on the ***,the impacts of acute cellular rejection and malignancy are reviewed in terms of their severity and possible interactions with immunosuppressive ***,immunosuppressive agents must be considered in terms of new developments in hepatitis C virus treatment,which undercut what used to be inevitable viral ***,while traditional immunosuppressive agents remain the most used,the specific side-effect profiles of all immunosuppressants must be weighed in light of the individual patient.

Distribution of hepatitis B virus genotypes in patients with chronic hepatitis B in Turkey

AIM: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) strains isolated worldwide has been classified into eight genomic groups deduced from genome comparisons and designated as genotypes A to H. We aimed to investigate prevalence of HBV genotypes and subtypes in ***: A total of 88 chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients from 15 hospitals throughout the country were *** who were HBsAg positive in serum at least for 6 mo, who had HBV-DNA in serum and elevation of AlT levels more than two times upper limit of normal, and who had percutaneous liver biopsy within 6 mo were included. genotyping of HBV was done by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFlP). The patients received subcutaneous 9 MU interferon-α 2a thrice a week for a period of 6 ***: genotype D was detected in 78 of 88 (88.7%)patients, however, genotyping failed in two patients (2.3%),while no product was obtained in eight (9.0%) *** subtypes, D2 was more prevalent (67 patients between 78% and 85.9%) followed by subtype D2+deletion (seven patients of 78 or 8.9%), subtype D1 (three patients of 78% or 3.9%) and subtype D3 (one patient of 78% or 1.3%). Thirty-three patients (37.5%) were HBeAg positive compared to 55 (62.5%) anti-HBe positive patients. The endpoint for the viral response of HBeAg positive patients was 27.2%, while it was found 52.7% in HBeAg negative patients (P＜0.05). long-term persistent viral response was 29.5% for all ***: This multi-center study indicates that the predominant genotype with CHB patients in Turkey like in other Mediterranean countries is genotype D.

Affective State Recognition Using Thermal-Based Imaging: A Survey

The thermal-based imaging technique has recently attracted the attention of researchers who are interested in the recognition of human affects dueto its ability to measure the facial transient temperature, which is correlated withhuman affects and robustness against illumination changes. Therefore, studieshave increasingly used the thermal imaging as a potential and supplemental solution to overcome the challenges of visual (RgB) imaging, such as the variation oflight conditions and revealing original human affect. Moreover, the thermal-basedimaging has shown promising results in the detection of psychophysiological signals, such as pulse rate and respiration rate in a contactless and noninvasive *** paper presents a brief review on human affects and focuses on the advantages and challenges of the thermal imaging technique. In addition, this paper discusses the stages of thermal-based human affective state recognition, such asdataset type, preprocessing stage, region of interest (ROI), feature descriptors,and classification approaches with a brief performance analysis based on a number of works in the literature. This analysis could help beginners in the thermalimaging and affective recognition domain to explore numerous approaches usedby researchers to construct an affective state system based on thermal imaging.

Deep Convolutional Neural Network Based Churn Prediction for Telecommunication Industry

Currently,mobile communication is one of the widely used means of ***,it is quite challenging for a telecommunication company to attract new *** recent concept of mobile number portability has also aggravated the problem of customer *** need to identify beforehand the customers,who could potentially churn out to the *** the telecommunication industry,such identification could be done based on call detail *** research presents an extensive experimental study based on various deep learning models,such as the 1D convolutional neural network(CNN)model along with the recurrent neural network(RNN)and deep neural network(DNN)for churn *** use the mobile telephony churn prediction dataset obtained from ***,containing the data for around 100,000 individuals,out of which 86,000 are non-churners,whereas 14,000 are churned *** imbalanced data are handled using undersampling and *** accuracy for CNN,RNN,and DNN is 91%,93%,and 96%,***,DNN got 99%for ROC.
