Phytochemical analysis,antioxidant,acetylcholinesterase,andα-amylase inhibitors from Hippeastrum hybridum extract

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of Hippeastrum hybridum(HH)as a free radical scavenger,and an inhibitor of the two enzymes i-e Alpha-amylase(α-amylase)and acetylcholinesterase(AChE).METHODS:In this study,HH plant was preliminary analyzed for phytochemical screening and then tested for its antioxidant,anti-α-amylase,and anti-AChE efficiency via standard ***:Phytochemical analysis shows the existence of different compounds;while Coumarins and quinones were *** total phenolic,flavonoid,and tannins content were found to be(78.52±0.69)mg GAE/g,(2.01±0.04)mg RUE/g,and(58.12±0.23)mg TAE/g of plant extract respectively.28.02%±0.02%alkaloid and 2.02%±0.05%saponins were present in the HH *** HH extract showed the anti-oxidant property with IC50(50%inhibition)of(151.01±0.13)(HH),(79.01±0.04)(Ascorbic acid)for ferric reducing,(91.48±0.13)(HH),(48.02±0.11)(Ascorbic acid)against Ammonium molybdenum,(156.02±0.31)(HH),(52.38±0.21)(Ascorbic acid)against DPPH,136.01±0.21(HH),52.02±0.31(Ascorbic acid)against H_(2)O_(2),and 154.12±0.03(HH),(40.05±0.15)(Ascorbic acid)μg/mL against ABTS *** analysis indicated that HH caused a competitive type of inhibition ofα-amylase(V_(max)remained constant and Km increases from 10.65 to84.37%)while Glucophage caused the un-competitive type of inhibition i-e both Km and V_(max)decreased from40.49 to 69.15%and 38.86 to 69.61%*** K_(i),(inhibition constant);K_(I),(dissociation constant),K_(m),(Michaelis-Menten constant),and IC50 were found to be62,364,68.1,and 38.08±0.22 for HH and 12,101.05,195,34.01±0.21 for ***,HH causes an anon-competitive type of inhibition of AChE i-e Km remains constant while V_(max)decreases from 60.5%to74.1%.The calculated K_(i),K_(I),K_(m),and IC50 were found to be 32,36.2,0.05,and 18.117±***:From the current results,it is concluded that HH extract contains bioactive compounds,and could be a good alternative to controlling oxidant

OBJECTIVES:To estimate the existence of phytochemicals and then to determine the antidiabetic activity againstα-amylase andβ-glucosidase inhibition in ***:The study was carried out by following standard ***:Phytochemicals analysis indicated the presence of different *** total phenolic content was 6.055 mg GAE/g and the total flavonoid content was 5.706 mg RU/g in the plant *** total saponins,alkaloids,and tannins contents were(0.044%),(2.88%)and(2.862 nm)respectively.α-amylase inhibition activity of Calligonum polygonoides(CP)extract was 70%with IC50 of 610μg/mL and that ofβ-glucosidase inhibition activity was 65%with IC50 of 640μg/***:The findings reported for the first time the antidiabetes-promoting effects of an extract of CP in vitro,thus validating their promising anti-diabetes potential.

OBJECTIVE:To examine the efficacy of Silene arenosa extract on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) of krait (Bungarus Sindanus) snake ***:The present project designed to evaluate the inhibition of AChE by following standard ***:Statistical analysis of the results showed that Silene arenosa exerted 73%inhibition against the krait venom acetylcholinesterase at fixed substrate acetylcholine (ACh) concentration (0.5 mM).Kinetic analysis using the Lineweaver Burk plot revealed that Silene arenosa caused a competitive type of inhibition i.e.K_(m) values increased from 26.6 to 93.3 mM (26.6%to 93.3%) and V_(max)remained constant in a concentration-dependent *** arenosa competes with the substrate to bind at the active site of the *** K_(mapp)of venom AChE for Silene arenosa increased from 60%to 81.6%and the V_(maxapp)remains constant.K_(i)(inhibition constant was estimated to be 48μg for snake venom);while the K_(m)(Michaelis-Menten constant of AChE-substrate into AChE and product) was estimated to be 0.5 *** IC_(50)of AchE calculated for Silene arenosa was 67μ***:The present results suggest that Silene arenosa extract can be considered as an inhibitor of snake venom AChE.

Clinical Presentation and Outcome of Bacterial Meningitis in University Hospital

Purpose: To determine the clinical characteristics and outcome of bacterial meningitis in adult patients using CT, MRI and CSF culture. Methods: Patients admitted to the university hospital with clinical diagnosis of meningitis were included in the present study. All patients were subjected to clinical examination as well as CT, MRI scanning and CSF-bacteriological culture. Results: The age distribution of the patients shows that there is high frequency of symptoms found in the age group between ages 40 - 45. CSF in the present study included WBS, RBC, glucose and protein, which is associated with the adverse outcome. Meningitis can be confirmed by many methods, in the present study three different methods were used, which included CT scan, MRI and CSF analysis and bacterial culture. In CT scan, among the predictors of meningitis, persons with TB (P = 0.037), patients with HIV (P = 0.036) and stroke (P = 0.036) showed significant association. Whereas MRI findings were significantly associated with TB meningitis (P = 0.015). Meningitis was prevalent in the age group of <45. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of several modalities for diagnosing and predicting the outcome of meningitis in adults.

Some New Applications of Elzaki Transform for Solution of Linear Volterra Type Integral Equations

Volterra type integral equations have diverse applications in scientific and other fields. Modelling physical phenomena by employing integral equations is not a new concept. Similarly, extensive research is underway to find accurate and efficient solution methods for integral equations. Some of noteworthy methods include Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM), Variational Iteration Method (VIM), Method of Successive Approximation (MSA), Galerkin method, Laplace transform method, etc. This research is focused on demonstrating Elzaki transform application for solution of linear Volterra integral equations which include convolution type equations as well as one system of equations. The selected problems are available in literature and have been solved using various analytical, semi-analytical and numerical techniques. Results obtained after application of Elzaki transform have been compared with solutions obtained through other prominent semi-analytic methods i.e. ADM and MSA (limited to first four iterations). The results substantiate that Elzaki transform method is not only a compatible alternate approach to other analytic methods like Laplace transform method but also simple in application once compared with methods ADM and MSA.

Analog Processing Based Vibration Measurement Technique Using Michelson Interferometer

A Michelson interferometer based sensor, to monitor the displacement and vibration of a surface, is presented. The interference signals detected in quadrature are processed using analog electronics to find the direction of the motion of a vibrating surface in real-time. The complete instrumentation and signal processing are implemented for the interpretation of the amplitude as well as positive and negative excursion of the vibration cycles. This new technique is simpler as compared to the techniques commonly used in the interferometer based vibration sensors. Using this technique, we have measured mechanical vibrations having a magnitude of the order of nanometers and frequency in the range of 50Hz to 500Hz. By making small changes in the electronic circuit, the technique can be implemented for the extended range of the vibration frequencies and amplitude.

Efficacy of Trichogramma evanescens and Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki to Control Lesser Date Moth Batrachedra amydraula Merck

Efficacy of the egg parasitoid, Trichogramma evanescens and the bio-pesticide bacteria, Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki （Btk） in reduction of lesser date moth, Batrachedra amydraula infestations were studied during seasons of 2011 and 2012. The result of 2011 showed that the release of egg parasitoid by rate of 500 and 1,000 parasitoids/palm tree achieved 55.06% and 67.45% reduction in infestation percentage, respectively. Meanwhile high reduction in infestation was achieved by Btk （78.65%） at dose rate of 6 g Btk powder/kg talc powder. The result of 2012 showed that the highest control efficacy （58.78%） was achieved at the first time of the control process, using Btk at dose rate of 6 g/kg talc powder. This result was not different significantly from the release of egg parasitoid by rate of 1,000 parasitoids/palm tree which achieved 53% reduction in infestation percentage. At the second time （after one week from the first application）, the efficacy of Btk at dose rate of 6g/kg talc powder was increased to 78.78%, which differ significantly with the release of egg parasitoid by the same rate of 1,000 parasitoids/palm tree, having 61.79% efficacy. Reapplication of the control method achieved an increase in efficacy of the control agents, such increase was significant for both the release of the parasitoid at rate of 1,000/palm tree and for Btk at a dose of 6 g/kg talc powder.

Diagnostic Utility of Sago-Like Nodules on Gross Thoracoscopic Appearance in Tuberculous Pleural Effusion and Their Correlation with Final Histo-Microbiologic Findings

Background: Distinguishing tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) from other causes of exudative effusion is often challenging. Delay in treatment initiation can occur while awaiting histo-microbiologic confirmation owing to the paucibacillary nature of the disease. Sago-like nodules are the most common visual finding on gross thoracoscopic appearance. The primary objective was to determine the diagnostic utility of the presence of sago-like nodules on gross thoracoscopic appearance in TPE to help justify early initiation of tuberculosis (TB) treatment based on their finding while awaiting final histo-microbiologic confirmation. Secondary objective was to study the correlation between the presence of sago-like nodules and the final histo-microbiologic findings in pleural biopsy specimens. Methods: This was a retrospective-descriptive study of all patients with exudative pleural effusion who underwent diagnostic medical thoracoscopy (MT) at Hamad General Hospital during an eight-year period (from January, 2008 to December, 2015). Results: The presence of sago-like nodules on gross thoracoscopic appearance of the pleural surface had a sensitivity of 58%, a specificity of 89% and a positive predictive value of 97% for TPE with a diagnostic accuracy of 62%. There is significant association between the presence of sago-like nodules and demonstration of granulomatous inflammation in pleural biopsy specimens (P = 0.000). There is no association between sago-like nodules and positive TB smear and culture in biopsy specimens. Conclusion: The presence of sago-like nodules on gross thoracoscopic appearance has a high specificity and positive predictive value for TPE and significantly correlates with the presence of granulomatous inflammation. Patients from TB prevalent areas with exudative pleural effusion and sago-like nodules on gross thoracoscopic appearance may be commenced on TB chemotherapy while awaiting final histologic confirmation.

Consecutive narrow and broad quasi-periodic fast-propagating wave trains associated with a flare

The excitation mechanism of coronal quasi-period fast-propagating(QFP)wave trains remains *** Atmospheric Imaging Assembly onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory observations,we study a narrow and a broad QFP wave trains excited one after another during the successive eruptions of filaments hosted within a fan-spine magnetic system on October 20,*** consecutive occurrence of these two types of QFP wave trains in the same event provides an excellent opportunity to explore their excitation mechanisms and compare their physical *** observational results reveal that narrow and broad QFP wave trains exhibit distinct speeds,periods,energy fluxes,and relative intensity amplitudes,although originating from the same active region and being associated with the same GOES C2.9 *** wavelet analysis,we find that the narrow QFP wave train shares a similar period with the flare itself,suggesting its possible excitation through the pulsed energy release in the magnetic reconnection process that generated the accompanying *** the other hand,the broad QFP wave train appears to be associated with the energy pulses released by the successive expansion and unwinding of filament ***,it is plausible that the broad QFP wave train was also excited by the sequential stretching of closed magnetic field lines driven by the erupting *** findings shed light on the different excitation mechanisms and origins of the QFP wave trains.

Study of scalar particles through the Klein–Gordon equation under rainbow gravity effects in Bonnor–Melvin-Lambda space-time

In our investigation,we explore the quantum dynamics of charge-free scalar particles through the Klein–Gordon equation within the framework of rainbow gravity,considering the Bonnor–Melvin-Lambda(BML)space-time *** BML solution is characterized by the magnetic field strength along the axis of the symmetry direction which is related to the cosmological constantΛand the topological parameterαof the *** behavior of charge-free scalar particles described by the Klein–Gordon equation is investigated,utilizing two sets of rainbow functions:(i)f(χ)=■,h(χ)=1 and(ii)f(χ)=1,h(χ)=1+βХ/*** 0<(Х=■)≤1 with E representing the particle's energy,Ep is the Planck's energy,andβis the rainbow *** obtain the approximate analytical solutions for the scalar particles and conduct a thorough analysis of the obtained ***,we study the quantum dynamics of quantum oscillator fields within this BML space-time,employing the Klein–Gordon *** also,we choose the same sets of rainbow functions and obtain the approximate eigenvalue solution for the oscillator ***,we demonstrate that the relativistic approximate energy profiles of charge-free scalar particles and oscillator fields get influenced by the topology of the geometry and the cosmological ***,we show that the energy profiles of scalar particles receive modifications from the rainbow parameter and the quantum oscillator fields by both the rainbow parameter and the frequency of oscillation.
