Effect of Water Application Rate on Growth Parameters of Farro 44 Rice Grown in a Selected Irrigation Scheme in Niger State, Nigeria

Water and land are the necessary agricultural inputs, and both are scarce these days. This study aims to determine the effect of water application rate on selected planting and crop parameters of Farro 44 rice during dry season farming and its growth response. The randomised complete block design was employed for the Farro 44 rice variety, with each plot size 4 m2 (2 m × 2 m) for ease of monitoring. A 0.3 m bound space separated each plot. The crop spacing was 0.2 m × 0.3 m, 0.3 m × 0.3 m, and 0.3 m × 0.4 m, respectively, for the row-to-row and plant-to-plant distance. The data collected were statistically analysed. The height of the faro 44 variety of rice ranged between 35.50 cm to 44.00 cm for plots with 2 tillers per hill, while that of 4 and 6 tillers per hill ranged between 35.50 cm to 41.40 cm.a.d 35.50 cm to 39.30 cm, respectively. minimum damage of 2.32% was seen for plant hills of 2 tillers, while 9.21% and 11.89% were observed for tillers of 4 and 6, respectively. It was seen that plots with the highest spacing of 30 × 40 cm.a.d tillers of 2 per hill were observed to perform better than those of the other plots within the experimental pots. Such plots had a maximum plant tiller of 37 when counted, with the height of the plants reaching 44 cm.a.ter 70 days of planting. In conclusion, farmers within the study area of the Kanko community in Niger State. Nigeria appears not to have any known knowledge of the soil they are cultivating and the water they use as a source of irrigation within the farming areas. It was further concluded that the rice crops would be produced maximally with minimal water application to the rice field.

Cytokines have been in focus of scientific in for more than decade now. Analyzing their expression has enabled a better understanding of pathogenesis of various diseases. moreover, they are now for beyond their stage when they were of interest for pathophysiological research. In the present study, we used an assay to anti-inflam.a.ory cytokines. One hundred and thirty sera and urine from egg positive individuals and 42 samples of healthy individuals in Eldeum locality—an endemic area of S. haematobum.a.d 28 healthy individuals from non-endemic area were tested. Concentration of IL5 and IL10 is reverse. IL5 is low in serum but high in urine before treatment and high in serum.a.d low in urine after treatment. IL10 is high in serum, low in urine before treatment and low in serum, high in urine after treatment.

Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 (SARS-CoV-2) represents a major health problem worldwide. Thus, early detection and appropriate management of the virus will influence the outcome of the disease. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics and survival outcomes of patients with COVID-19 infection in Kassala, Eastern Sudan. methods: A cross-sectional hospital-study was conducted among patients visiting Kassala teaching hospital with suspicion of COVID-19 infection. A structured questionnaire was used to gather clinical and socio-demo- graphic information from COVID-19 patients. Nasopharyngeal specimens and blood samples were collected and tested to confirm the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection using RT-PCR. Results: A total of 371 patients were enrolled in the study from September 2020 to January 2021, with m.a. age ± SD was 42.9 ± 19.9. The prevalence of COVID-19 infection was estimated at 61.7%. The majority were males 159 (69.4%), of university-level education, 96 (49.7%), and urban residents, 175 (9.7%). The most common symptoms were fever 215 (93.9%), cough 188 (82.1%), headache 179 (78.2%), and shortness of breath 154 (67.2%). Overall all mortality was reported as 16%. Older age group with the age ≥ 70, P P = 0.020, diabetes mellitus P = 0.029 were significantly associated with high case fatality. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that older age, male gender, laboratory tests (leukocytosis, lymphopenia, low Hemoglobin and high CRP) and various comorbid conditions significantly increase the disease severity and mortality. Therefore, attention should be paid to preventive m.a.ures to reduce the considerable im.a.ts of the disease.

研究目的：体质是身体素质的综合反映,包括人体形态结构、生理机能、运动能力等,是评价一个人健康状况的综合指标。国外对学生的体质健康研究以监测和实证研究为主。日本、美国、英国和瑞典等具有较完整的定期体质监测资料。体质监测在身体形态的基础上,逐步增加身体素质、运动能力、健康指标、指导体质健康促进行动,经过了较为漫长的过程。上世纪70年代,WHO等公布了体质测试方案,受到普遍关注。近年来,许多国家提出了本国韵体质测试计划。如澳大利亚的“Active Australia"、芬兰的《提高全民身体素质计划》、日本的“体力测试”等。早在20世纪初,中国就对青少年体质进行过相关普查调研。新中国成立后,随着教育、卫生和体育各项事业的发展,这项事业开始得到重视,从1950-1956年,具一定规模的测试调查14次。1975年,中国医学科学院对9城市的27.3万名青少年儿童进行了身高、体重、胸围、坐高、头围的测试;从1979年起,由教育部等每5年组织了一次全国多民族学生体质健康调研。2005年,教育部等组织了“全国学生体质与健康调研”,指标包括身体形态、机仫素质和健康状况四方面24项指标,涵盖了31个省、自治区、直辖市,25个民族、1320余所学校的383216人。结果表明,中国学生的身体状况总体是好的。但仍然存在不少不容忽视的问题,特别是耐力、速度、爆发力、力量素质呈进一步下降趋势,学生超重与肥胖检出率不断增加,视力不良检出率居高不下等,引起了社会广泛。2010年全国学生体质健康调研数据(覆盖31个省、27个民族、约35万人;24项指标)与2005年比较,中国19至22岁大学生的爆发力、力量、耐力等身体素质指标进一步下降。中国的青少年占总人口的比例约为13%,是个庞大特殊群体。儿童青少年的体质健康关系到民族、国家未来。2005年监测结果表明,中国青少年学生的体质健康状况出现了20年持续下降的状况,并存在地区间差异。江苏从2010年开始,每年组织一次全省13个地级市和10所高校学生的体质健康监测工作,引起较大的社会反响。同时,江苏出台《江苏省学生体质健康促进行动计划。开展“健康素养提升行动、体育活动推进行动、卫生服务改善行动、心理健康促进行动”等四大行动,提出了学校体育工作整体水平明显提升;学生耐力、力量、柔韧性等体能素质明显提升;体育后备人才数量和质量明显提升;肥胖和近视发生率明显下降“三升一降”目标,使江苏学生体质健康水平进入全国先进行列。本研究通过对江苏省2010-2013江苏7-22岁学生健康素养监测数据进行分析,旨在：1、分析比较学生形态指标、身体机能、健康指标在性别、年龄组别、地区间的差异;2、探讨分析学生形态、机能、健康指标与身体素质之间的相关性;3、提出进一步提升江苏学生体质健康水平的对策。研究方法：江苏省学生体质健康促进中心统一规划和落实各地区中小学、高校开展学生体质健康监测工作,组织建立了一支专业的体质健康监测实施队伍,以《江苏省学生体质健康监测标准》为指导,于每年的10月-11月份再全省范围内开展学生体质健康监测工作。1.抽样方法：本研究采用横断面研究,以江苏省学生体质健康促进中心监测的82所中小学校和10所高校为调查对象。采用整群抽样对纳入研究的学校全体学生进行体质健康指标监测。监测年限为2010～2013年,共4年。2.监测指标：形态学指标,如：身高、体重、BmI、胸围等;功能学指标,如：肺活量、血压、心率等;体能指标,如：50m短跑、耐力、握力、立定跳远、长跑、坐位体前屈等,高血压患病率,近视率和龋齿率等。3.统计方法：运用SPPS 20软件分析江苏省2010-2013年学生体质监测资料。定量资料分析比较采用t检验、方差分析;定性资料分析运用卡方检验;影响因素分析采用logistic回归。研究结果：1.江苏省学生超重和肥胖情况√ 4年共监测7岁-22岁在校学生255,581人,其中包括127,866名男性和127,715名女性。√ 将调查对象分为7-11岁、12-14岁、15-17岁和18-22岁4组,4组男性的BmI指数分别为17.99±3.07,19.844±3.33,21.13±3.10,21.68±2.94(kg/m2),女性分别为16.98±±2.58,19.41±±2.83,20.58±±2.53,20.40±2.35(kg/m2)。√ 这四个年龄段男性的超重率分别为18.90%,12.83%,13.80%,16.36%,肥胖率分别为12.86%,10.47%,4.64%,3.68%,女性四个年龄段的超重率分别为9.98%,9.50%,9.57%,6.58%,肥胖率则为7.76%,3.23%,1.60%,0.86%。√ 2010-2013年间,男性每年的超重率分别为15.40% 14.40%,15.80%,18.

An Optical Based Biosensor for the Determination of Ammonium in Aqueous Environment

A simple and rapid optical biosensor for the determination of ammonium was developed by immobilization of gluta-mate dehydrogenase (GLDH) and diaphorase (Dph) in chitosan film coated on a glass slide employing thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (mTT) as a color indicator. The developed biosensor displays a purple color formation of formazan attributed to the unreacted NADH in the reaction system in the presence of ammonium. The color intensity was found to decrease proportionally with the increase of ammonium concentrations after 10 min exposure. The linearity of the biosensor towards ammonium was in the range of 16.8 – 70 μm (R2 = 0.9955) with detection limit of 11 μm. A good agreement (R2 = 0.9984) with indothymol method was obtained in the m.a.urement of fish pond water samples. The effect of potential interferences such as metals ion has also been evaluated.

Evaluation of Some Treatment Options Inlate and Neglected Hip Fractures Using the modified Harris Hip Score

Background: The choice of the appropriate operative intervention in patients with late and neglected hip fracture continuous to be a huge dilem.a.for orthopedic surgeons. Purpose: To evaluate the satisfaction or otherwise of some treatment options using the modified Harris-hip score (HHS) in resource poor setting. materials and methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study conducted at ATBUTH, Bauchi. Data of 60 patients over the age of 18 years with hip fractures (femoral neck, intertrochanteric and sub trochanteric fractures) who had operative intervention between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020 with cannulated screws, Proximal femur lock compression plate (PFLCP), cementlessor cemented bipolar hem.a.throplasty (BHA). Results: The m.a. age of studied patients was 65.7 ± 16.1 years, with age ranging from 19 - 101 years. m:F ratio was 1.2:1 across all age groups and 1:1.4 amongst those >60 years. 51 patients (85%) presented > 1 week after injury with 24 patients (40%) sustaining hip fractures from low energy trivial indoor fall and 28 patients (46.7%) mostly younger sustaining fractures from high energy motor vehicular accident (m.a.. The prevalence rate for femoral neck, intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures were 32 (53.3%), 17 (28.3%) and 11 (18.3%) respectively. From the data retrieved, 21patients (35.0%), 17 patients (28.3%), 20 patients (33.3%) and 2 patients (3.3%) had PFLCP, cemented BHA, cementless BHA and cannulated screw fixation respectively. most (66.7%) of those who had PFLCP achieved satisfactory radiologic union and there was also 94.1% and 85% satisfactory outcome rate amongst the patients with cemented BHA and cementless BHA respectively. Irrespective of the operative intervention method at 1 year follow-up, there was a statistically significant improvement in post-operative HHS (P value 0.02), with 83.4% having good to excellent results. 交通入口处X光违禁品检测对公共安全至关重要,为了达到违禁品检测精度和速度均衡,对YOLOv7算法进行改进。增加了一个由低层、高分辨率的特征图生成的检测头,提高对小目标物体敏感度。在YOLOv7的Backbone末尾增加轻量级mobileNetViTv3 block,用于捕获全局信息,帮助网络在高密度场景中精准定位。并设计出一种mPCA模块用于弥补深层卷积定位信息的不足。在测试阶段引入一个额外的分类器,进一步提高网络的分类能力。改进后的模型在3种安检违禁品数据集SiXary、HiXary、CLCXray进行测试,mAP分别达到了94.9%、77.3%、86.1%。结果表明,所提出的模型能够有效提高YOLOv7的检测复杂违禁品的能力,同时保持较快的检测速度,与当前主流算法相比,具有一定的先进性。

Soil Detachment with Organic mulching Using Rainfall Simulator in Com.a.ison with a Short Duration Natural Rainfall for Effective Soil Conservation

The im.a.t of raindrop on sandy soil was studied using rainfall simulator and natural rainfall to determine average soil detached. Erosion by rainfall is one of the major hazards threatening the productivity of farm.a.ds. This study determined the rate of soil detachment in com.a.ison between natural rainfall and simulated rainfall for effective soil conservation m.a.ure. The height of the simulator was varied considering the diameter of the nozzles which were considered during the design stage of the rain simulator. Two plots of dimensions 2 m × 2 m each were cleared with one considered for bare and treated soils for both the natural rainfall and simulated rainfall. Splash cups were installed on each of the plots at half depth of the cup after the clearing of the area at 0.4 m × 0.4 m.a.art. Two sets of rain gauge were placed at the experimental site to note the volume of natural rainfall on the farm. The average soil detached was analysed using statistical analysis where t-test was also carried out to know the difference in m.a.. There was a significant difference in the degree of soil detachment between bare and treated soil under natural rainfall experiment;t(18) = 8.917, p m.a. of the natural rainfall for the bare soil was 11.6910 com.a.ed to that of the treated soil of 7.75. Size of effect (Eta-square (η2) = 0.8154) reveals that the nature of soil accounted for 81.5% variance in the average detachment rate. For simulated experiments with a m.a. value of 7.3360 have higher tendency of detachment than treated soil with a m.a. value of 4.2240. Size of effect (Eta-square (η2) = 0.630) reveals that the soil types accounted for 63% variance in the average detachment.
