Efficiency test of modeled empirical equations in predicting soil loss from ephemeral gully erosion around mubi,Northeast Nigeria

A field study was carried out to assess soil loss from ephemeral gully(EG)erosion at 6 different locations(Digil,Vimtim,muvur,Gella,Lamorde and madanya)around the mubi area between April,2008 and October,*** location consisted of 3 watershed sites from where data was *** shape,land use,and conservation practices were noted,while EG length,width,and depth were ***-chemical properties of the soils were studied in the field and *** loss was both m.a.ured and predicted using modeled empirical *** showed that the soils are heterogeneous and lying on flat to hilly topographies with few grasses,shrubs and tree *** soils comprised of sand fractions that predominated the texture,with considerable silt and clay *** empirical soil loss was generally related with the m.a.ured soil loss and the predictions were widely reliable at all sites,regardless of *** m.a.ured and empirical aggregate soil loss were more related in terms of volume of soil loss(VSL)(r^(2)=0.93)and mass of soil loss(mSL)(r^(2)=0.92),than area of soil loss(ASL)(r^(2)=0.27).The empirical estimates of VSL and mSL were consistently higher at muvur(less vegetation)and lower at madanya and Gella(denser vegetations)in both *** maximum efficiency(m_(se))of the empirical equation in predicting ASL was between 1.41(Digil)and 89.07(Lamorde),while the m_(se) was higher at madanya(2.56)and lowest at Vimtim(15.66)in terms of VSL prediction *** m_(se) also ranged from 1.84(madanya)to 15.74(Vimtim)in respect of mSL *** results led to the recommendation that soil conservationists,farmers,private and/or government agencies should implement the empirical model in erosion studies around mubi area.

A field adaptation test of the Ephemeral Gully Erosion model(EGEm)to predict ephemeral gully(EG)erosion was carried out in the 2008 and 2009 farming seasons in the mubi area,NE *** use,conservation practices,and EG channel features were m.a.ured and/or noted at each *** loss varied among the sites and *** m.a.ured area,volume,and mass of soil loss were used to test the standard EGEm_(std),and the adapted models'(EGEm_(Ad) and EGEm_(Al))prediction *** result showed that EGEm_(std) could not predict the area of soil loss *** EGEm_(Ad) and EGEm_(Al) were efficient and better adapted to predicting area,volume,and mass loss from EG *** adapted models are therefore strongly recommended for implementation in the study area.

AIm： To investigate the serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2（VEGFR-2） and adropin in age-related macular degeneration（AmD）patients.·mETHODS： Ninety-eight AmD patients were included in the study. Seventy-eight age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were recruited as the control *** florescein angiography and optical coherence tomography were performed to assess the posterior segment details. Serum VEGFR-2 and adropin levels were m.a.ured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and com.a.ed between the study groups.· RESULTS： AmD group had significantly increased foveal retinal thickness, serum LDL and HDL levels and significantly decreased subfoveal choroidal thickness（P =0.01, 0.047, 0.025 and 〈0.001, respectively）. Serum VEGFR-2level revealed a significant decrease in AmD patients com.a.ed to controls（26.48 ±6.44 vs 30.42 ±7.92 ng/m L,P 〈0.001）. There was an insignificant increase in serum.a.ropin level in AmD patients（6.17±3.19 vs 5.79±2.71 ng/m L,P =0.4）. Serum level of VEGFR-2 in AmD patients had a significant negative correlation with foveal retinal thickness（r =-0.226, P =0.025） and a significant positive correlation with subfoveal choroidal thickness（r=0.2, P=0.048）.·CONCLUSION： The current study demonstrated that the decreased serum VEGFR-2 level may be considered in the development of AmD. Adropin does not seem to play a role in the pathogenesis of AmD.

With special drilling operation equipment and specific conditions of geology, how does drilling fluid carry cuttings effectively? So far, it is still an urgent problem for drilling researchers to study. This work just aims at the actual engineering background to develop studying model. In this paper, according to non Newtonian fluid mechanics, the law of the solid liquid, two phase fluid flow and actual drilling engineering, the major factors affecting cuttings transport are drilling fluid velocity, hole inclination and fluid rheological properties. Getting a clear understanding of the law of drilling fluid and its cutting taking mechanism, this paper puts forward a model for analysis of field data and quantitative forecast of cutting taking capability of drilling fluid. The full scale annular test section was 6.1 m with 76 and 114 mm drillpipe in a 203 mm ID (wellbore diameter). Hole angle varied from 0° to 90°.

In this paper, the approximate solution to the linear fredholm-stieltjes integral equations of the second kind （LFSIESK） by using the generalized midpoint rule （GmR） is introduced. A com.a.ison resu｜ts depending on the number of subintervals ＂n＂ are calculated by using maple 18 and presented. These results are demonstrated graphically in a particular numerical example. An algorithm of this application is given by using maple 18.

In this study, we present systematic petrological, geochemical, LA-ICP-mS zircon U-Pb ages and Nd isotopic data for the A-type granites and syenites from Suizhou-Zaoyang region. The results show that the peralkaline A-type granites and syenites were episodically emplaced in Suizhou-Zaoyang region between 450±3 and 441±7 ma which corresponds to Late Ordovician and Early Silurian periods, respectively. Petrologically, the syenite-peralkaline granite association comprises of nephefine normative-syenite and alkaline granite in Guanzishan and quartz normative syenite and alkafine granite in Huangyangshan. The syenite-granite associations are ferroan to alkali in composition. They depict characteristics of typical OIB （oceanic island basalts） derived A-type granites in multi-elements primitive normalized diagram.a.d Ybffa vs. Y/Nb as well as Ce/Nb vs. Y/Nb binary plots. Significant depletion in Ba, Sr, P, Ti and Eu indicates fractionation of feldspars, biotite, amphiboles and Ti-rich augite. The values of eNd（t） in Guanzishan nepheline syenite and alkaline granite are ＋1.81 and ＋2.26, respectively and the calculated two-stage model age for these rocks are 1 040 and 1 003 ma, respectively. On the other hand, the Huangyangshan alkaline granite has eNd（t） values ranging from ＋2.61 to ＋3.46 and a relatively younger two-stage Nd model age values ranging from 906 to 975 ma, respectively. Based on these data, we inferred that the Guanzishan nepheline syenites and granites were formed from fractional crystallization of OIB-like basic magmas derived from upweliing of metasomatized lithospheric mantle. The Huangyangshan quartz syenite and granite on the other hand, were formed from similar magmas through fractional crystallization with low input from the ancient crustal rocks. Typically, the rocks exhibit Al-type granite affinity and classified as within plate granites associated with the Ordovician crustal extension and the Silurian rifting.
