Performance analysis of empirical models for predicting rock mass deformation modulus using regression and Bayesian methods

Deformation modulus of rock mass is one of the input parameters to most rock engineering designs and *** field tests for determination of deformation modulus are cumbersome,expensive and *** has prompted the development of various regression equations to estimate deformation modulus from results of rock mass classifications,with rock mass rating(RMR)being one of the frequently used *** regression equations are of different types ranging from linear to nonlinear functions like power and *** method has recently been developed to incorporate regression equations into a Bayesian framework to provide better estimates of geotechnical *** question of whether Bayesian method improves the estimation of geotechnical properties in all circumstances remains ***,a comparative study was conducted to assess the performances of regression and Bayesian methods when they are used to characterize deformation modulus from the same set of RMR data obtained from two proj.ct *** study also investigated the performance of different types of regression equations in estimation of the deformation ***,probability distributions and prediction indicators were used to assess the performances of regression and Bayesian methods and different types of regression *** was found that power and exponential types of regression equations provide a better estimate than linear regression *** addition,it was discovered that the ability of the Bayesian method to provide better estimates of deformation modulus than regression method depends on the quality and quantity of input data as well as the type of the regression equation.

In this work, a new model reduction technique is introduced. The proposed technique is derived using the matrix reducibility concept. The eigenvalues of the reduced model are preserved; that is, the reduced model eigenvalues are a subset of the full order model eigenvalues. This preservation of the eigenvalues makes the mathematical model closer to the physical model. Finally, the outcomes of this method are fully illustrated using simulations of two numeric examples.

Nowadays many of oil and gas wells are drilled extensively by Polycrystalline Diamond Compact(PDC)drill *** companies are manufacturing PDC cutters according to their *** of these companies concentrate their products of PDC cutters to be well resisting for abrasive *** wear of PDC inserts leads to money loss as well as delays the drilling procedures causing unexpected ***,it is crucially significant to evaluate the quality of the PDC cutters based on their resistance against abrasive *** present work concentrates on assessing the PDC cutters from various sources using two non-destructive analytical approaches:Raman-Shift and Fourier Transformation Infrared Ray(FT-IR)*** analysis of the PDC samples with the analytical techniques were validated with the previous experimental results obtained from micro and nano-scratch tests achieved on the same *** presented work could be performed on many PDC cutters from various manufacturers as the applied tests considered non-destructive compared to the traditional destructive techniques which leads the way for evaluating lots of PDC cutters without causing any *** analysis of the applied analytical approaches agreed with the results obtained from previous experimental scratch tests.

Blasting of rocks has intrinsic environmental impacts such as ground vibration,which can interfere with the safety of lives and ***,accurate prediction of the environmental impacts of blasting is imperative as the empirical models are not accurate as evident in the ***,there is need to consider some robust predictive models for accurate prediction *** expression programming(GEP),adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS),and sine cosine algorithm optimized artificial neural network(SCA-ANN)models are proposed for predicting the blast-initiated ground vibration in five granite *** input parameters into the models are the distance from the point of blasting to the point of measurement(D),the weight of charge per delay(W),rock density(q),and the Schmidt rebound hardness(SRH)value while peak particle velocity(PPV)is the targeted output.100 datasets were used in developing the proposed *** performance of the proposed models was examined using the coefficient of determination(R2)and error *** R2 values obtained for the GEP,ANFIS,and SCA-ANN models are 0.989,0.997,and 0.999,respectively,while their errors are close to *** proposed models are compared with an empirical model and are found to outperform the empirical model.

An unavoidable but reusable waste so as to enhance a more circular waste utilization has been spent potlining(SPL) generated by the aluminum *** combustion mechanisms, evolved gasses, and ash properties of SPL were characterized dynamically in response to the elevated temperature and heating *** scanning calorimetric(DSC) results indicated an exothermic reaction behavior probably able to meet the energy needs of various industrial *** reaction mechanisms for the SPL combustion were best described using the 1.5-, 3-and 2.5-order reaction *** volatilization rate of the flue gas was estimated at 2.24%.The SPL combustion emitted CO_(2), HNCO, NO, and NO_(2) but SO_(x).The j.int optimization of remaining mass, derivative thermogravimetry, and derivative DSC was achieved with the optimal temperature and heating rate combination of 783.5 ℃, and 5 ℃/min, *** between temperature and heating rate exerted the strongest and weakest impact on DSC and remaining mass, *** fluorine mainly as the formation of substantial NaF and CaF_(2) in the residual ***,the composition and effect of environment of residual solid were *** ash slagging tendency and its mineral deposition mechanisms were elucidated in terms of turning SPL waste into a benign input to a circular waste utilization.

The development, survivorship and reproduction of Bemisia tabaci B-biotype on three bean species were studied at 26 ± 1 ℃ in the laboratory. The developmental periods from egg to adult varied from 27.80 days on garden beans to 18.20 days on soybeans. The survivorship from egg to adult on soybeans, cowpeas and garden beans was 77.14, 70.14 and 64.28%, respectively. The average longevity of female adults ranged from 12.30 days on soybeans to 9.80 days on garden beans, and the oviposition of B. tabaci varied from 160.85 eggs on soybeans to 98.00 eggs on garden beans. Life table parameters were calculated as biological attributes for Bemisia tabaci populations fed on three bean species. The results indicated that the intrinsic rate of increase (rm), the finite rate of increase ( λ ) and net reproductive rate (R0) were high for populations fed on soybeans, with values of 0.1857,1.2041 and 82.1576, respectively. The corresponding values were less for populations fed on garden beans, with values of 0.1097, 1.1159 and 31.2661, respectively. The parametric values for cowpeas were intermediate between soybeans and garden beans but no significant difference were observed for the rm values for soybeans and cowpeas. Experimental evidence in our investigation indicated that Bemisia tabaci is best adapted and shows the greatest preference for soybean of the three bean species tested in this study.

The Front Variable Area Bypass Inj.ctor(FVABI)is a key to bypass ratio adj.stment for a Variable Cycle Engine(VCE).In order to study the role of the FVABI with the Core Driven Fan Stage(CDFS)duct,firstly,the engine bypass with the CDFS duct model and the equivalent engine bypass without the CDFS duct model are designed using the concept of a j.t boundary *** comparing the difference between airflow driving forces in the two engine bypass models,the quantitative effects of the inj.ction from the CDFS duct on the mass flow rate of the engine bypass airflow are obtained under different combinations of pressure difference and area ***,the CDFS duct inj.ction characteristic map is obtained through the typical experiment of the *** on this map,the performance model of the FVABI is ***,the turbofan engine model with the Variable Inlet Guide Vane(VIGV),the First Variable Cycle Engine model(VCE1)with the CDFS duct and without the VIGV,and the Second Variable Cycle Engine model(VCE2)with the CDFS duct and VIGV are *** gain on the engine bypass ratio adj.stment range caused by the inj.ction from the CDFS duct is clarified by comparing the three engine *** is concluded that the bypass ratio adj.stment range of the variable cycle engine with the FVABI is about twice that of the traditional turbofan engine.
