Effects of pre-aging on defects evolution and magnetic properties of Sm-Co-Fe-Cu-Zr magnets

The heterogeneous precipitation in the 2:17-type Sm-Co-Fe-Cu-Zr permanent magnets has been found to contain complex formation and dissociation of *** low-temperature pre-aging has been utilized to promote the precipitate nucleation by the enlarged chemical driving force,how the defects evolve after pre-aging and how the possibly changed defects state affects the subsequent precipitation behavior remain *** this work,a model magnet Sm25Co47.9Fe18.5Cu5.6Zr3.0(wt%)was selected to *** comparison with the as-solution-treated state,it is found that pre-aging for 2 h at 550℃reduces the defects density,which was characterized by less cell boundaries(i.e.,larger cell size)and less basal stacking faults inside the cells(i.e.,higher 2:17 R ordering degree).Further studies reveal that after aging for the same time(10 h)at the same temperature(830℃),the reduced density of defects by preaging also leads to slower precipitation/phase transformation kinetics when co mpared with the non-preaged one,which was characterized by the lower 2:17 R ordering degree and smaller coercivity for the *** findings suggest that pre-aging has a strong influence on the density of defects and their evolution during subsequent isothermal aging process,which should be carefully considered to tailor the microstructure and magnetic properties of Sm-Co-Fe-Cu-Zr magnets.

Trace Zr addition is essential for achieving desired cellular nanostructure and large coercivity in the pinning-controlled 2:17-type Sm-Co-Fe-Cu-Zr magnets that have served as the strongest high temperature permanent magnets for over 40 ***,accompanying this is the formation of Zr-rich particles that may deteriorate the hard magnetic *** the formerly-reported 1:3R Zr-rich platelets,in this work,1–2μm sized Zr6(Co,Fe)23(6:23)particles(Fm 3 m)and 100–200 nm sized 1:3R Zr-rich particles were also found based on combined structural identifications and element mapping *** such particles,the desired 1:5H cell wall precipitates that provide the strongest pinning force of magnetic domain wall motions are rare,forming the precipitate-free-zones(PFZs).The 1:5H-PFZs and the soft magnetism of both 6:23 and 1:3R Zr-rich particles act as local weak pinning points,which are unfavorable to retain the large magnetization in strong opposite fields and lead to poor *** observed in a Sm25Co45.9Fe19.5Cu5.6Zr4.0(wt.%)magnet,the co-existence of such Zr-rich particles and the associated 1:5H-PFZs leads to a pretty low squareness factor of only 52.89%given the large coercivity of 29.04 *** findings suggest that careful controlling the Zr content and avoiding its aggregation to form harmful 6:23 and 1:3R Zr-rich particles are essential for achieving high squareness as well as large energy product in the Sm-Co-Fe-Cu-Zr permanent magnets.

Mpox disease is caused by a double-stranded DNA virus, genus Orthopoxvirus of the family Poxviridae. The incubation period is usually 6 to 13 days but can range from 5 to 21 days while symptoms and signs may persist for 2 to 5 weeks. Although, the clinical features are usually less severe when compared to the deadly smallpox, the disease can be fatal with case fatality rate between 1% and 10%. In Imo State, Nigeria, there has been a changing epidemiology of the disease in the last 6 years and the frequency and geographic distribution of cases have progressively increased. This study aims to conduct a review of the disease epidemiology between 2017 and 2023 and implications for surveillance in Imo State. Surveillance data from the Surveillance Outbreak Response and Management System (SORMAS) was extracted between January 2017 and December 2023 across the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Imo State. A line list of 231 suspected cases was downloaded into an excel template and analyzed using SPSS® version 20 software. Analysis was done using descriptive statistics and associations were tested using Fischer’s exact at 0.05 level of significance. Of the 231 suspected cases, 57.1% (132) were males, 42.9% (99) were females and the modal age group was between the ages of 0 - 4 (32.5%). Eight (8) LGAs (districts) accounted for 71% (n = 164) of all the suspected cases. 21.2% (49) were confirmed positive, 27 males (55.1%) and 22 females (44.9%) (p > 0.05). Modal age group was 20 - 24 (22.4%, n = 11), 18% (9) were children under 14 years, p > 0.05. Case fatality rate was 8% (n = 4). There was no significant association between mortality and age group. Five (5) LGAs accounted for about 60% (29) of all confirmed cases. These LGAs contribute only 20% to the total population in the State. TNF inhibitors to treat ulcerative colitis in a metastatic breast cancer patient:A case report and literature review

Adalimumab (ADA) is a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor, used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Previous studies have reported an increased risk of cancer following exposure to TNF inhibitors, but little has been reported for patients with cancer receiving TNF-inhibitor treatment. We present a female patient with metastatic breast cancer and ulcerative colitis (UC) who was treated with ADA. A 54-year-old African American female with a past history of left-sided breast cancer (BC) diagnosed at age 30 was initially treated with left-breast lumpectomy, axillary dissection, followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Years after initial diagnosis, she developed recurrent, bilateral BC and had bilateral mastectomy. Subsequent restaging computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated distant metastases to the bone and lymph nodes. Three years into her treatment of metastatic breast cancer, she was diagnosed with UC by colonoscopy. Her UC was not controlled for 5 mo with 5-aminosalicylates. Subcutaneous ADA was started and resulted in dramatic improvement of UC. Four months after starting ADA, along with ongoing chemotherapy, restaging CT scan showed resolution of the previously seen metastatic lymph nodes. Bone scan and follow-up positron emission tomography/CT scans performed every 6 mo indicated the stability of healed metastatic bone lesions for the past 3 years on ADA. While TNF-α inhibitors could theoretically promote further metastases in patients with prior cancer, this is the first report of a patient with metastatic breast cancer in whom the cancer has remained stable for 3 years after ADA initiation for UC.

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in some tissues of croaker fish from oil spilled rivers of Niger Delta region,Nigeria

Objective:To investigate the level of heavy metals(Cu,Zn,Fe Mn Ni,Pb and Cd) in muscles,gills and liver tissue of Croaker fish from oil spilled rivers of Bonny and Finima,Niger Delta region,***:Twenty four Croacker fishes(Genyonemus lineatus) weighing between 250 and 260 g and 24–26 cm length were collected from each sampling sites(Bonny and finima rivers).The frozen fishes were thawed and dried at 105C until they reach a constant *** dried samples were homogenized and digested with 10 ml tri-acid mixture(HNO3:HCl O4:H2SO4),and then the digested samples were diluted to 100 ml with deionized *** metals(Cu,Ni,Zn,Pb,Mn,Iron Fe,and Cd) concentrations were determined by atomic absorption ***:Our results revealed that concentrations and distribution patterns of all heavy metals studied varied significantly(P < 0.05) amongst the fish tissues analyzed and sampling ***,liver tissue of fish caught from Finima creek accumulated the highest concentrations of Cu(52.64 ± 3.01 mg/g dry wt),Zn(166.50 ± 6.45 mg/g dry wt)and Fe(801.50 ± 14.15 mg/g dry wt) in comparison to the liver of fish caught from Bonny river in which the levels of Cu,Zn and Fe were(45.00 ± 2.79),(49.90 ± 2.91) and(216 ± 6.11 mg/g dry wt),*** addition,Mn,Ni,Pb and Cd exhibited their highest concentrations in gills from both *** expected,muscle tissue contained the least concentrations of all metals investigated from both sampling ***,all the metals investigated exhibited highest concentration in fish collected from Finima *** abnormal high level heavy metals accumulation observed in this location could be linked to the frequent crude oil spills as well as industrial activity around the area which might get discharged into Finima *** general,the mean concentrations of some toxic heavy metals investigated exceed the recommended maximum permissible limits set by the Joint FAO/WHO ***,some metals

Effect of tapping tools and date of tapping on Acacia polyacantha gum yield in South Kordofan State, Sudan

A study was conducted in South Kordofan, Sudan to determine the effect of tapping, tapping tools and date of tapping on the gum yield of Acacia polyacantha. A two-factor experiment was conducted for two seasons in 2008-2009. One location was used for two seasons and two locations for one season. The first factor （4 levels） was the tools of tapping： Makmak, Farrar, and Sonki, and the control which was not tapped. The second factor （2 levels） was the date of tapping that comprises mid October and mid November. These treatments were arranged in Randomaized Complete Block Design and replicated three times. Gum yield （g/tree and g/ picking） was recorded for five pickings. Economic analysis was done using the partial budget technique. The results showed highly significant （p 〈 0.01） differences on gum yield （g/picking and g/tree）. The results indicated that the process of tapping increases gum production by 88.4% and 79.8% compared with un-tapped trees, respectively. The date of tapping has no significant effect on gum yield （g/tree and g/picking） of A. polyacantha. Tapping of the tree with Makmak in mid- November was found to be economically beneficial compared to using the other tools and the control. These results could identify a new source of income for the poor farmers in South Kordofan mainly because of the wild occurrence of Kakamut as a potential gum producing tree species grown naturally in the area.
