Analysis of genetic relationship in mutant silkworm strains of Bom-byx mori using inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers

Amplified inter simple sequence repeats （ISSR） markers were used to determine genetic relationships among mutant silkworm strains of Bombyx mori. Fifteen ISSR primers containing simple sequence repeat （SSR） motifs were used in this study. A total of 113 markers were produced among 20 mutant strains, of which 73.45% were found to be polymorphic. In selected mutant genetic stocks, the average number of observed allele was （1.7080 ± 0.4567）, effective alleles （1.5194 ± 0.3950） and genetic diversity （Ht）（0.2901 ± 0.0415）. The dendrogram produced using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic means （UPGMA） and cluster analysis made using Nei＇s genetic distance resulted in the formation of one major group containing 6 groups separated 20 mutant silkworm strains. Therefore, ISSR amplification is a valuable method for determining the genetic variability among mutant silkworm strains. This efficient molecular marker would be useful for characterizing a considerable number of silkworm strains maintained at the germplasm center.

Impregnation of carbonaceous nanofibers into glassy polymer-based composite membrane for CO_2 separation

The development of defect-free composite membrane(CM) is often challenging due to poor dispersion and distribution of filler particles in the polymer matrix. Despite the attractive physicochemical properties and gas separation performance of carbon nanotube(CNT) based CM, CNT displayed poor dispersion characteristics in most polymer matrix domain. Instead of incorporating CNT, a viable alternative, carbon nanofiber(CNF) which exhibits similar properties as CNT, but improved dispersion quality in the polymer matrix is found. In this work,CNF particles were incorporated in poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide)(PPOdm) polymer continuous phase for CM development. The optimum gas separation performance of the PPOdm-CNF CM(11.25 at 197.02 barrer of CO_2 permeability) was obtained at 3 wt% of CNF loading. Compared to pristine PPOdmmembrane,CO_2 permeability and CO_2/CH_4 selectivity of PPOdm-3 wt% CNF CM were enhanced by 180% and 55%, *** 3 wt% CNF loading, the filler particles were dispersed and distributed more homogenously, in which no obvious CNF agglomeration was observed. In addition, the incorporation of CNF particles also enhanced the mechanical and thermal properties of the resultant CM.

Polycythemia is a known paraneopastic manifestation of hepatoma, but only in the presence of alpha-fetopro （AFP）. We present a case of polycythemia in the absence of AFP, and suggest concurrent alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency as the cause for breaking this rule. We also suggest a reason for the apparent constant conjunction between polycythemia and AFP in hepatoma.

Background：Hyperglycemia on admission has been found to elevate risk for mortality and adverse clinical events after acute myocardial infarction （AMI）,but there are evidences that the relationship of blood glucose and mortality may differ between diabetic and nondiabetic *** studies in China have provided mixed results and are limited by statistical ***,we used data from a large,nationally representative sample of patients hospitalized with AMI in China in 2001,2006,and 2011 to assess if admission glucose is of prognostic value in China and if this relationship differs depending on the presence or absence of ***：Using a nationally representative sample of patients with AMI in China in 2001,2006,and 2011,we categorized patients according to their glucose levels at admission （〈3.9,3.9-7.7,7.8-11.0,and ≥11.1 mmol/L） and compared in-hospital mortality across these admission glucose categories,stratified by diabetes *** diabetic and nondiabetic patients,separately,we employed logistic regression to assess the differences in outcomes across admission glucose levels while adjusting for the same ***：Compared to patients with euglycemia （5.8%）,patients with moderate hyperglycemia （13.1%,odds ratio [OR] =2.44,95% confidence interval [CI,2.08-2.86]）,severe hyperglycemia （21.5%,OR =4.42,95% CI [3.78-5.18]）,and hypoglycemia （13.8%,OR =2.59,95% CI [1.68-4.00]）,all had higher crude in-hospital mortality after AMI regardless of the presence of recognized diabetes *** adjustment for patients＆#39; characteristics and clinical status,however,the relationship between admission glucose and in-hospital mortality was different for diabetic and nondiabetic patients （P for interaction =0.045）.Among diabetic patients,hypoglycemia （OR =3.02,95% CI [1.20-7.63]）,moderate hyperglycemia （OR =1.75,95% CI [1.04-2.92]）,and severe hyperglycemia （OR =2.97,95% CI [1.87-4.71]） remained associated with elevated risk for mortality,but among
