Numerical Simulation and Experimental Verification of CMOD in SENT Specimen: Application on FCGR of Welded Tool Steel

Single-edged notched tension （SENT） specimen is used to study the fatigue crack growth rate （FCGR） behavior of AISI 50100 steel using MTS 810. Calibration tests are run to get plots of crack mouth opening displacement （CMOD） vs. load and CMOD vs. crack length-to-width ratio with the known crack lengths. Numerical simulation is also done to try to establish a relation between crack length and CMOD. FCGR of welded and un-welded specimens are plotted against stress intensity factor range to show the effect of welding on fatigue crack growth rate of AISI 50100 steel. The experimentally obtained CMOD values are compared with values obtained by numerical simulation using ABAQUS/StandardTM software package. Results show that numerical values are in good agreement with experimental data for small crack lengths and lower values of applied load,

The combined use of plants and bacteria is a promising approach for the remediation of soil contaminated with organic *** biotic and abiotic factors can affect the survival and activity of the applied bacteria and consequently plant growth and phytoremediation efficiency. The effect of inoculum density on the abundance and expression of alkane-degrading genes in the rhizosphere of plant vegetated in hydrocarbon-contaminated soil has been rarely observed. In this study, an alkane-degrading bacterium(Pantoea sp. strain BTRH79), at different inoculum densities(10~5 to 10~8 cells cm^(-3) soil), was inoculated to ryegrass(Lolium perenne) vegetated in diesel-contaminated soil to find the optimum inoculum density needed for its efficient colonization and hydrocarbon degradation activity. Bacterial inoculation improved plant growth and hydrocarbon degradation. Maximum plant growth and hydrocarbon degradation were observed with the inoculum having the highest cell density(10~8 cells cm^(-3) soil). Moreover, the inoculum with higher cell density exhibited more abundance and expression of alkane hydroxylase gene, CYP153. This study suggests that the inoculum density is one of the main factors that can affect bacterial colonization and activity during phytoremediation.

Extension of Direct Citation Model Using In-Text Citations

Citations based relevant research paper recommendations can be generated primarily with the assistance of three citation models:(1)Bibliographic Coupling,(2)Co-Citation,and(3)Direct *** of new scholarly articles are published every *** flux of scientific information has made it a challenging task to devise techniques that could help researchers to find the most relevant research papers for the paper at *** this study,we have deployed an in-text citation analysis that extends the Direct Citation Model to discover the nature of the relationship degree-ofrelevancy among scientific *** this purpose,the relationship between citing and cited articles is categorized into three categories:weak,medium,and *** an experiment,around 5,000 research papers were crawled from the *** research papers were parsed for the identification of in-text citation ***,0.1 million references of those articles were extracted,and their in-text citation frequencies were computed.A comprehensive benchmark dataset was established based on the user ***,the results were validated with the help of Least Square Approximation by Quadratic Polynomial *** was found that degreeof-relevancy between scientific papers is a quadratic increasing/decreasing polynomial with respect to-increase/decrease in the in-text citation frequencies of a cited ***,the results of the proposed model were compared with state-of-the-art techniques by utilizing a well-known measure,known as the normalized Discount Cumulative Gain(nDCG).The proposed method received an nDCG score of 0.89,whereas the state-of-the-art models such as the Content,Bibliographic-coupling,and Metadata-based Models were able to acquire the nDCG values of 0.65,0.54,and 0.51 *** results indicate that the proposed mechanism may be applied in future information retrieval systems for better results.

Thoracic impalement injury: A survivor with large metallic object in-situ

Impalement injuries, is a severe form of trauma, which are not common in civilian life. These injuries rarely occurs in major accidents. Abdomen, chest, limbs and perineum are often involved due to their large surface area. Thoracic impalement injury is usually a fatal injury, due to location of major vessels and heart in the thoracic cavity. These injuries are horrifying to site, but the patients who are lucky enough to make it to hospital, usually survive. Chances of survival are larger in right sided impalement injuries while central injuries are always died at the *** patient, 25 years old male, was brought to the emergency room (ER) with large impaled metallic bar (about 2.5 feet long) in situ, in right sided chest. The patient was immediately shifted to operation room (OR) and was operated, his recovery was uneventful without any *** patients should be treated and resuscitated according to advanced trauma life support (ATLS) protocols and operated without any delay for further investigations. Such operations are carried out by the most experienced surgeon team available. The impaled objects should not be processed if not necessary to avoid major hemorrhage and damage to vital structures, until the patient is in operation room. Large size and unusual position of impaled objects, makes the job difficult for surgeons/*** horrifying at scene, patients with thoracic impalement injuries are mostly young and healthy, and those who survive the pre-hospital phase are potentially manageable with proper resuscitation. Usually these patients make recovery without any further complications.

In this paper, we propose a three point approximating subdivision scheme, with three shape parameters, that unifies three different existing three point approximating schemes. Some sufficient conditions for subdivision curve C0 to C3 continuity and convergence of the scheme for generating tensor product surfaces for certain ranges of parameters by using Laurent polynomial method are discussed. The systems of curve and surface design based on our scheme have been developed successfully in garment CAD especially for clothes modelling.

Diapause is an adaptation that insects have evolved to synchronize their life cycle with that of seasonal climatic changes and resources ***,cues for its induction are not always clear and,in some cases,a maternal effect may be *** the population level,just a part of the individuals may exhibit diapause with important consequences in terms of winter ***,clear indicators of diapause state are difficult to *** induction was thus investigated in the aphid parasitoid species Aphidius ervi Haliday(Hymenoptera:Braconidae)developing in the aphid Sitobion avenae(Hemiptera:Aphididae)at four crossed photothermal regimes(16℃and 8℃,16:8 h L:D and 8:16 h L:D),and during 2 successive *** analyzed the reliability of changes in mummy color to assess for the diapausing state compared to dissections,and we measured parasitoid morphological and physiological *** observed that the proportion of dark brown mummies increased after one generation under low photothermal regime compared to other *** diapause was recorded at 16℃,16:8 h L:D,while we observed 16.2%and 67.5%diapause incidence at 8℃,8:16 h L:D,at 1st and 2nd generation,*** induction is thus increased by short day-length conditions and low temperatures as well as by maternal *** parasitoid life-history traits(weight,size,fat content,water content,egg-load,and longevity)were affected by the photothermal regime and/or the *** results raise new questions on the environmental thresholds needed to induce diapause and on survival and adaptation potential of commercially available parasitoid strains in different environments.

Use of Scrapped Rubber Tires for Sustainable Construction of Manhole Covers

Scrapped tires from vehicles are produced in large quantities. Despite numerous existing uses of scrapped tires, alarge quantity ends up at the landfill sites, which contributes to environmental degradation. The development ofmore applications of scrapped tire usage can reduce the disposal of tires at landfill sites. This research proposes anovel use of scrapped tires by using the strips taken from scrapped tires in replacement of steel bars as reinforcement. Manhole covers were produced using scrapped tires by completely replacing the steel with scrapped *** different samples of manhole covers were prepared and tested. The highest bearing capacity of 25.5 kN wasrecorded with a sample of 100 mm thickness made with cementitious composite, which is 2.25 times higher thanthe bearing capacity of a conventional reinforced-concrete manhole cover. The use of manhole covers made withscrapped tires can effectively address the theft issue of manhole covers. The lifecycle cost analysis shows that themanhole cover made with scrapped tires is 3.4 times more cost-effective in comparison with the conventionalmanhole cover. This research shows a new avenue of the potential use of scrapped tires as reinforcement in structures, which can improve sustainable construction practices.

Classification of human actions under video surveillance is gaining a lot of attention from computer vision *** this paper,we have presented methodology to recognize human behavior in thin crowd which may be very helpful in *** have mostly focused the problem of human detection in thin crowd,overall behavior of the crowd and actions of individuals in video *** based Human behavior modeling is a complex task as it involves human detection,tracking,classifying normal and abnormal *** proposed methodology takes input video and applies Gaussian based segmentation technique followed by post processing through presenting hole filling algorithm i.e.,fill hole inside objects *** detection is performed by presenting human detection algorithm and then geometrical features from human skeleton are extracted using feature extraction *** classification task is achieved using binary and multi class support vector *** proposed technique is validated through accuracy,precision,recall and F-measure metrics.
