Estrogen receptors in gastric cancer:Advances and perspectives

Worldwide, gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies with high mortality. Various aspects of thedevelopment and progression of gastric cancer continue to be extensively investigated in order to further our understanding and provide more effective means for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease. Estrogen receptors(ERs) are steroid hormone receptors that regulate cellular activities in many physiological and pathological processes in different tissues. There are two distinct forms of ERs, namely ERα and ERβ, with several alternative-splicing isoforms for each. They show distinct tissue distribution patterns and exert different biological functions. Dysregulation of ERs has been found to be associated closely with many diseases, including cancer. A number of studies have been conducted to investigate the role of ERs in gastric cancer, the possible mechanisms underlying these roles, and the clinical relevance of deregulated ERs in gastric cancer patients. To date, inconsistent associations of different ERs with gastric cancer have been reported. These inconsistencies may be caused by variations in in vitro cell models and clinical samples, including assay conditions and protocols with regard to different forms of ERs. Given the potential of the deregulated ERs as diagnostic/prognostic markers or therapeutic targets for gastric cancer, it will be important to identify/confirm the association of each ER isoform with gastric cancer, to determine the specific roles and interactions that these individual ER isoforms play under specific conditions in the development and/or progression of gastric cancer, and to elucidate precisely these mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the achievements from early ER studies in gastric cancer to the most up-to-date discoveries, with an effort to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of ERs roles in gastric cancer and its possible mechanisms. Networked Control Approach for Distributed Generation Systems

Microgrid has emerged as an answer to growing demand for distributed generation(DG) in power systems. It contains several DG units including microalternator, photovoltaic system and wind generation. It turns out that sustained operation relies on the stability of these constituent systems. In this paper, a microgrid consisting of microalternator and photovoltaic system is modeled as a networked control system of systems(So S)subjected to packet dropouts and delays. Next, an observerbased controller is designed to stabilize the system in presence of the aforementioned communication constraints and simulation results are provided to support the control design methodology.

The role of graveyards in species conservation and beta diversity:a vegetation appraisal of sacred habitats from Bannu,Pakistan

Water Management of Falaj Al Khatmain in Sultanate of Oman

Oman is an arid country with an average annual rainfall of 100 mm. Agricultural productions in Oman is almost fully dependent on irrigation. More than one third of irrigation water is supplied by aflaj （singular： falaj）, which provide 680× 10^6 m^3 of water per year and irrigate some 26,500 ha. Aflaj are trenches and tunnels, which are dug in the ground to convey water from one place to another. This study analyzed the existing management of Falaj Al Khatmain and proposed improvements to the system regarding water utilization, enriching community living, distribution of water among the shareholders and the water circulation during day and night. Furthermore, the study estimated the surplus water during the wet period and determined the recharge area of groundwater using the rainfall, falaj flow, wadi flow, water table and lithology of the wells located in or around the study area. The study concluded that under the climatic and hydro-geologic conditions in the study area, the best arrangement for recharging the groundwater is an infiltration pond to store surplus water from thefalaj in the subsurface pond or reservoir without dam construction.

Quantitative analysis of cefixime via complexation with palladium(Ⅱ) in pharmaceutical formulations by spectrophotometry

An optimized and validated spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of cefixime in pharmaceutical formulations. The method is based on the complexa- tion reaction between cefixime and palladium ion in the presence of acidic buffer solution （pH 3） in ethanol-distilled water medium at room temperature. The complex absorbed maximally at 352 nm. Beer＇s law is obeyed in the working concentration range of 2.5-35 μg/mL with apparent molar absorptivity of 1.015×104 L/mol cm and Sandell＇s sensitivity of 0.001 μg/cm2/0.001 absorbance unit. The limits of detection and quantitation for the proposed method are 0.175 and 0.583μg/mL, respectively. The effect of common excipients used as additives has been studied in the determination of cefixime. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determina- tion of cefixime in pharmaceutical formulations. The results obtained by the proposed method were statistically compared with the reference method using t and F values and found no significant difference between the two methods.

Background and objective: Nasal obstruction is the most frequent presentation to the otolaryngologist all over the world. Symptoms are multisystem involvement such as headache, epistaxis, ophthalmological, otological, upper and lower respiratory tract infections;and many more. Septoplasty is commonly performed for nasal septal deviation as a primary indication of nasal airway obstruction. Physical examination, anterior rhinoscopy and nasal endoscopy are considered the gold standard for detecting septal deviation. Computed tomography (CT) can also be used to evaluate the nasal septum, anatomical variants and unveils the associated sinonasal diseases. This study aimed to find out the advantages of CT in endoscopic septoplasty for all out benefits to the patients. Patients and methods: 168 patients of nasal septal deviation were selected from 2015 to 2018 in the Bangladesh Medical and Popular Medical College Specialized Hospital. Age ranged between 10 years to 70 years of age. CT scanning in both coronal, axial and sagittal sections had been done in all patients after proper history taking, physical examination, anterior rhinoscopy and nasal endoscopy. Endoscopic septoplasty alone and/or other ancillary procedures were performed in all 168 patients under general anesthesia. Results: Amongst 168 patients, male was 116 (69%) and female was 52 (31%) with a ratio 2.2:1. Maximum 58 (35%) reported in 31 to 40 years and 48 (29%) was found in 21 to 31 years of age. Hypertrophied inferior turbinate (HIT) 54 (32%) and 48 (29%) concha bullosa (CB) were associated with 168 septal deviation. Associated pathologies like maxillary antral cyst 68 (40%) and maxillary sinusitis 62 (37%) were documented. Conclusion: CT scanning unveils the abnormal anatomic variants and associated sinonasal pathologies along with nasal septal deviation.
