In the frame of landslide susceptibility assessment, a spectral library was created to support the identification of materials confined to a particular region using remote sensing images. This library, called Pakistan spectral library(pklib) version 0.1, contains the analysis data of sixty rock samples taken in the Balakot region in Northern *** spectral library is implemented as SQLite database. Structure and naming are inspired by the convention system of the ASTER Spectral Library. Usability, application and benefit of the pklib were evaluated and depicted taking two approaches, the multivariate and the spectral based. The spectral information were used to create indices. The indices were applied to Landsat and ASTER data tosupportthespatial delineation of outcropping rock sequences instratigraphic formations. The application of the indices introduced in this paper helps to identify spots where specific lithological characteristics occur. Especially in areas with sparse or missing detailed geological mapping, the spectral discrimination via remote sensing data can speed up the survey. The library can be used not only to support the improvement of factor maps for landslide susceptibility analysis, but also to provide a geoscientific basisto further analyze the lithological spotin numerous regions in the Hindu Kush.

Background:The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene mutation identification is being used with increased frequency to aid in the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis (CF) in those suspected with *** of this study was to identify diagnostic outcomes when CFTR mutational analysis was used in CF *** mutational analysis results were also compared with sweat chloride ***:This study was done on all patients at our institution who had CFTR mutation analysis over a sevenyear period since August ***:A total of 315 patients underwent CFTR mutational ***-one (16.2%) patients had two mutations *** them 32 had positive sweat chloride levels (≥60 mmol/L),while seven had borderline sweat chloride levels (40-59 mmol/L).An additional 70 patients (22.3%) had only one mutation *** them eight had positive sweat chloride levels,and 17 had borderline sweat chloride ***-five patients (17.5%) without CFTR mutations had either borderline (n=45) or positive (n=10) sweat chloride *** patients with a CF phenotype had negative CFTR analysis but elevated sweat chloride *** eighty-three patients (26.4%) CFTR mutational analysis was done without corresponding sweat chloride ***:Although CFTR mutation analysis has improved the diagnostic capability for CF,its use either as the first step or the only test to diagnose CFTR dysfunction should be discouraged and CF diagnostic guidelines need to be followed.

Objective:To evaluate the antiviral activity and phytochemicals of selected plant extracts and their effect on the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling pathway modulated by hepatitis C virus(HCV)nonstructural protein 5 A(NS5A).Methods:A total of ten plant extracts were initially screened for their toxicities against Hep G2 *** non-toxic plants were tested for their inhibitory effect on the expression of HCV NS5A at both m RNA and protein levels using real-time PCR and Western blotting assays,*** differential expression of the genes associated with MAPK pathway in the presence of NS5A gene and plant extract was measured through real-time ***,the identification of secondary metabolites was carried out by phytochemical and HPLC ***:The phytochemical profiling of Berberis lyceum revealed the presence of alkaloids,phenols,saponins,tannins,flavonoids,carbohydrates,terpenoids,steroids,and ***,quercetin,myricetin,gallic acid,caffeic acid,and ferulic acid were identified through HPLC *** methanolic extract of Berberis lyceum strongly inhibited HCV RNA replication with an IC50 of 11.44μg/m ***-PCR and Western blotting assays showed that the extract reduced the expression of HCV NS5A in a dosedependent *** lyceum extract also attenuated NS5A-induced dysregulation of the MAPK signaling ***:Our findings suggest that Berberis lyceum extract strongly inhibits HCV propagation by reducing HCV NS5A-induced perturbation of MAPK signaling.

A cytological cervical smear abnormality of glandular origin raises a high suspicion of underlying invasive or pre invasive cancers. Objective: To look into the diagnosis and management of women presenting with glandular changes on cervical cytology and to further implement a good management plan for these women. Water is the most important factor limiting crop productivity at different growth stages of crop growth and development. The study was conducted to investigate the effect of irrigation scheduling on sunflower hybrid (Hysun-38) at vegetative versus reproductive stages during spring season 2010. The trial was laid out in randomized complete block design (factorial arrangement), replicated thrice, having net plot size of 3.5 m × 9 m. The treatments comprised of irrigation application of 75 mm each, at different growth and development stages. viz., I1 = irrigation at plant establishment, I2 = irrigation at plant establishment and irrigation at vegetative phase, I3 = irrigation at plant establishment, irrigation at button stage and irrigation at flowering, and I4 = irrigation at plant establishment, irrigation at vegetative phase, irrigation at button stage and irrigation at achene’s formation. Days taken to 50% flowering was highest in I2, where irrigation was applied at plant establishment and vegetative phase, and in I4 treatment , where irrigation was given at seedling establishment, irrigation at vegetative phase, irrigation at button stage and irrigation at achene’s formation. Leaf area index at different growth intervals was significantly affected by irrigation levels. Crop growth rate was highest for treatment I4. Plant height (PH), stem girth (SG) head diameter (HD), 1000-achene’s weight (AW) and achene’s yield (AY) were significantly affected by different irrigation levels at various growth stages. Maximum AY (2415.68 kg·ha-1) was obtained in I4 treatment while, minimum AY (1275.35 kg·ha-1) was obtained in case of those plots which were irrigated only at plant establishment stage. Sunflower productivity was affected with irrigation regime at different growth stages with the strongest responses seen at early growth stages which ultimately affected the final achene yield adversely.

The previous research on the occurrence of disinfection by-products (DBPs) in drinking water has focused on trihalomethane (THMs) formation and evolution, in particular within distribution systems. In this study, the variability of occurrence of haloacetic acids (HAAs) before and after treatment was investigated. The investigation focused on point–to-point fluctuations of HAAs in different treatment stages within the treatment plant. The research was also carried out to find out the possible sources for the presence of HAAs before chlorination in the raw water. The results showed that the presence of HAAs from the raw water point until the filtered water occurred due to industrial waste and sewages. Subsequent formation of HAAs from treated point until service reservoir due to disinfection. The HAAs concentration was the highest and most variable in the plant where level of DBP precursor indicators and the chlorine dose were both higher. However, HAAs level and in particular dichloroacetic acids (DCAA) (the preponderant HAAs species in the waters under study), trichloroacetic acids (TCAA) decreased dramatically during filtration, very probably because of the biodegradation within the filter. An ANNOVA test was used to evaluate the level of significance of HAAs between treated water and service reservoir outlet water.

Determination and inheritance of phytic acid as marker in diverse genetic group of bread wheat

Phytic acid (Myo-inositol 1,2,3,4,5,6 hexa-kisphophate) is a storage form of phosphorus and can accumulate to the levels as high as 35% in the wheat kernel. Phytic acid acts as an inhibitor for macronutrients as well as micronutrients and located in the bran of wheat kernel. Due to its inhibitory role, a high concentration of phytic acid is undesirable as it hinders the bio-availability of some essential nutrients such as Fe, Mg, Ca, Zn and Cu, etc. In order to check the inheritance of phytic acid in wheat kernels, phytic acid concentration was initially determined in kernels of 10 wheat genotypes to identify two contrasting genetic groups for diallel analysis. Based on pre-screening results of 10 wheat genotypes, five wheat genotypes (3 with high and 2 with low phytic acid concentration) were crossed in all possible combinations during 2007-2008 by 5 × 5 full diallel mating fashion to insight the inheritance of phytic acid and other yield contributing traits. All 20 F1 hybrids and five parental genotypes revealed significant differences statistically, except plant maturity. The narrow and broad sense heritability estimates varied widely among traits for spike length (0.17, 0.62), spikelets spike-1 (0.35, 0.74), tillers plant-1 (0.05, 0.52) and phytic acid concentration (0.01, 0.86). The values for phytic acid concentration ranged from 0.56% to 3.43% among F1 hybrids and 1.06 to 3.67% for parental genotypes. F1 hybrids, Ps-2005 × Ghaznavi (0.56%), AUP-4006 × Ps-2004 (0.74%), Janbaz × Ps-2004 (0.89%) and Janbaz × Ps-2005 (1.01%), had the lowest concentration of phytic acid. The study concluded that F1 hybrids with low phytic acid concentration could yield desirable segregants.
