Agronomy and Economy: Impact of Tillage and Poultry Manure on Mazie (<i>Zea mays</i>L.)

Seedling emergence and seedling establishment are two important phases for the good crop stand and final maize crop harvest. A field study was conducted to explore the effects of different tillage practices and poultry manure levels on the seedling emergence, growth, development, yield, and economics of the spring planted maize during 2010 and 2011. Experimental treatments include four tillage treatments (zero, minimum, conventional and deep tillage) and three poultry manure amendments (control (no manure), 5 Mg·ha-1 and 10 Mg·ha-1). Seedling emergence was linearly affected as the tillage intensity was increased. Significant relationship of tillage with leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate and total dry matter was recorded during the both years. Poultry manure at the rate of 10 Mg·ha-1 produced the higher leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, total dry matter and grain yield as compared to 5 Mg·ha-1 and control. Moreover, experimental results concluded that the deep tillage practice has taken less time to start emergence. Similarly, higher values trend of leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, total dry matter accumulation and grain yield was shifted from deep tillage to conventional, minimum and zero tillage practices during both years. Economically, the minimum tillage with poultry manure at rate of 10 Mg·ha-1 gave the better benefit to cost ratio and crop productivity as compared to conventional, deep and zero tillage. The experiment suggested the minimum tillage with poultry manure at the rate of 10 Mg·ha-1 may ensure the maize grain yield sustainability.

We report the design,fabrication and characterization of a microelectromechanical systems(MEMS)flow control device for gas chromatography(GC)with the capability of sustaining high-temperature *** further demonstrate the use of this new device in a novel MEMS chopper-modulated gas chromatography-electroantennography(MEMS-GC-EAG)system to identify specific volatile organic compounds(VOCs)at extremely low *** device integrates four pneumatically actuated microvalves constructed via thermocompression bonding of the polyimide membrane between two glass substrates with *** overall size of the device is 32 mm×32 mm,and it is packaged in a 50 mm×50 mm aluminum housing that provides access to the fluidic connections and allows thermal *** characterization reveals that each microvalve in the flow control chip provides an ON to OFF ratio as high as 1000:*** device can operate reliably for more than 1 million switching cycles at a working temperature of 300℃.Using the MEMS-GC-EAG system,we demonstrate the successful detection of cis-11-hexadecenal with a concentration as low as 1 pg at a demodulation frequency of 2 Hz by using an antenna harvested from the male Helicoverpa Virescens *** addition,1μg of a green leafy volatile(GLV)is barely detected using the conventional GC-EAG,while MEMS-GC-EAG can readily detect the same amount of GLV,with an improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of~22 *** expect that the flow control device presented in this report will allow researchers to explore new applications and make new discoveries in entomology and other fields that require high-temperature flow control at the microscale.

Revised Stratigraphy and Mineral Resources of Balochistan Basin, Pakistan: An Update

The Balochistan basin is located on the south western part of Balochistan Province and also Pakistan. Balochistan super basin is subdivided into northern Balochistan (Pishin basin or Kakar Kohorasan basin represented as back arc basin), central Balochistan (Chagai-Raskoh-Wazhdad Magmatic arc and Hamuns-Inter arc basin) and southern Balochistan (Makran Siahan basin) basins. Balochistan basin consists of Cretaceous to recent sediments, diverse igneous rocks and low grade metamorphics. Balochistan basin is a leading basin which consists of very significant mineral deposits especially copper and gold deposits. These mineral resources need to be developed for the development of areas, province and Pakistan. During previous half century a lot of geological work has been done in Balochistan basin. Here the revised stratigraphic set up and its mineral resources with an update are being presented.

Statistical Investigation and Mapping of Monthly Modified Refractivity Gradient over Pakistan at the 700 Hectopascal Level

This study is an effort to investigate the spatial-temporal variability of the modified refractivity gradient at the 700 hPa pressure level over Pakistan and its neighbouring regions of Afghanistan, India, Iran and the Arabian Sea using the remote sensing data of the AQUA (AIRX3STM) satellite from 2008 to 2012. Trapping conditions only found in December were spread over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan) with an average value of -182.042 M/Km and showing Leptokurtic distributions. The lowest monthly average value super-refractive conditions existed in the autumn season with a strong monthly correlation (>0.91 M/Km). A very high monthly correlation (0.9 M/Km) was found for the super-refractive conditions over the whole time period. The largest spatial and temporal normal conditions appeared in January with the average value for normal conditions being 132.72 M/Km (found over Zabul, Afghanistan) with Leptokurtic distributions. During May normal conditions were the smallest in spatial extent over Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, showing Platykurtic distributions. Sub-refractive conditions mostly prevailed at all times. The probability for extreme sub-refractive conditions was very high in 2008-2012. The highest average sub-refractive conditions appeared in the winter and autumn seasons (spread around Quetta and Kalam, Pakistan). The highest monthly average sub-refractive conditions with a value of 1,265,188 M/Km were found in January and spread around the Sarbaz River Iran. Correlations for the existence of sub-refractive conditions varied from 0.8 M/Km (moderate strong) to 0.4 M/Km during the autumn to winter season. Permanent super-refractive conditions existed over Baluchistan from February to September.

In the present study, an optical fiber surface plasmon resonance(SPR) biosensor was developed for measuring time-and concentration-dependent DNA hybridization kinetics. Its design complies with a 3D Au∕Al2O3 multilayer composite hyperbolic metamaterial(HMM), a graphene film, and a D-shaped plastic optical *** to the numerical simulation and the experimental demonstration, the SPR peak of the designed biosensor can be effectively altered in the range of visible to near-infrared by varying the HMM structure. The sensitivity of the appliance was shown to achieve a value of up to 4461 nm/RIU, allowing its applicability for bulk refractive index sensing. Furthermore, a biosensor designed in this work displayed high-resolution capability(ranging from 10 pM to 100 nM), good linearity, and high repeatability along with a detection limit down to 10 pM, thus suggesting a vast potential for medical diagnostics and clinical applications.

This study presents the fabrication and characterization of novel surface-type capacitive humidity sensors using vanadyl phthalocyanine（VOPc） as the active *** devices,which comprise three different thicknesses, have been fabricated using the thermal evaporation technique.A thin film of VOPc is deposited on thoroughly cleaned glass substrates with pre-patterned Ag *** capacitive effect of the samples under humidity has been investigated. Comparison of the samples with different thicknesses shows that the thinnest device seems more sensitive towards *** humidity dependent capacitance properties of the sensor make it beneficial for use in commercial hygrometers.

Temperature-dependent far-infrared properties of Bi_(12)GeO_(20) single crystal

Fax-infraxed reflectivity spectra of bismuth germanium oxide （Bi12GeO20） single crystals are measured from room temperature down to 10 K. All the reflectivity spectra are fitted to a complex dielectric function ε（ω） in the factorised form. Phonon modes at low frequency are found to develop upon decreasing temperature and gain considerable spectrum weight below 150 K. The temperature-dependent static dielectric constants are obtained from the Lyddane-Sachs-Teller relation based on the obtained oscillator parameters. The dielectric constants are found to increase upon decreasing temperature, which is attributed to the charge transfer among the ions in the unit cell with the temperature varying.

Effects of Oxygen Vacancy and Pt Doping on the Catalytic Performance of CeO_(2) in Propane Dehydrogenation:A First-Principles Study

The catalytic properties of the CeO_(2) catalyst for propane dehydrogenation(PDH)are examined by employing the density functional theory *** modifications and their effects on the surface reactivity are explored by creating the oxygen vacancy and single Pt atom doping.A comparative study between the binding energies of the different PDH reaction species reveals a considerable Lewis acid-base interaction over the pristine and defective surfaces,which dominantly strengthens the bond formation between the adsorbates and the catalyst surface,resulting in the enhancement of surface *** creation of oxygen vacancy and doping the CeO_(2)(111)surface with single Ptatoms changes the charge distribution over the surface on account of excess 4f *** electronic change in creases the bond formation abilities of the in active Ceatom and hence increases the adsorption stre *** vacancy in the defective CeO_(2)(111)surface migrates over the surface with the addition of an appropriate ***,it is revealed that the propylene is more strongly adsorbed on the single-Pt-atom-doped CeO_(2)(111)surface than the pristine and defective surfaces,which decreases the deep dehydrogenation energy barrier and ultimately results in the lowering of the selectivity.
