A theoretical analysis regarding active vibration control of rotating machines with current-controlled electrodynamic actuators between machine feet and steel frame foundation and with velocity feedback of the machine feet vibrations is ***,a generalized mathematical formulation is derived based on a state-space description which can be used for different kinds of models(1D,2D,and 3D models).It is shown that under special boundary conditions,the control parameters can be directly implemented into the stiffness and damping matrices of the *** on the generalized mathematical formulation,an example of a rotating machine—described by a 2D model—with journal bearings,flexible rotor,current-controlled electrodynamic actuators,steel frame foundation,and velocity feedback of the machine feet vibrations is presented where the effectiveness of the described active vibration control system is demonstrated.

Valorization of Ubiquitous Plant Species Used as Food Packaging in Benin: A Sustainable Solution to Improve Quality of Life and Protect the Environment

Vegetal leaves play a significant role in the daily lives of populations in developing countries. This study aimed to highlight the plant species used as food packaging in southern Benin. A survey questionnaire was administered in local markets, and informed consent was obtained from native guides. Data were processed using Google Forms, and a phytochemical screening was conducted on the sampled species. A total of 311 individuals, including elders, vendors, and consumers, participated in the survey. The most commonly used plant species identified were Tectona grandis, Thalia geniculata, Musa sapientum, Gmelina arborea, Manihot esculenta, and Terminalia catappa. Several reasons, primarily cultural, explain the preference for these species. Notably, Tectona grandis and Musa sapientum demonstrated superior morphological, physical, and organoleptic qualities, measuring 79 cm by 53.5 cm and over 2 m by 50 cm, respectively. They accounted for 33.33% and 32.35% of usage. Additionally, fermented corn paste, making up over 53% of offerings, was the most popular food item. The mechanical properties of these leaves, such as flexibility, toughness, and relative impermeability, along with identified phytochemicals like terpenes, alkaloids, gallic acid, flavonoids, and coumarins, enhance food preservation and limit microbial activity. Promoting the use of these natural packaging materials over plastic alternatives could significantly reduce environmental pollution and mitigate the risks associated with toxic microorganisms in food, contributing to both ecological health and food safety.

Experimental Interactions Between Clay Minerals and Bacteria: A Review

Interactions between microbes and minerals have the potential to contribute significantly to global cycles of various processes and serve as a link between the geosphere and life. Clays and clay minerals occur commonly in agriculturally utilized soils, are naturally grown underground （soil and rock） and are used in construction material. Clay minerals serve as natural, geological and technical barriers in geotechnics and environmental geotechnics. Bacteria in turn are ubiquitous in natural soils, subsoils and rocks and are in permanent contact with clay minerals. There are numerous ways in which bacteria can interact with clay minerals and alter them： dissolution, refinement and transformation, reduction of trace elements incorporated in the clay minerals and uptake of trace elements from these minerals, e.g., by the production of siderophores and chelators and enhancement or reduction of azisorbance of trace elements on clay minerals. In addition, bacteria can influence layer charge, cation exchange capacity （CEC）, exchangeable cations, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface, swelling and the rheological properties of clay minerals. The field of clay mineral-microorganism interaction is still wide open because of the large potential that the interactions of bacteria with clay minerals in soils and sediments may result in changes in clay mineral properties and behaviors. Fhrther detailed studies on all these tentative changes and underlying mechanisms as well as broad surveys of quantifications of extents and rates of clay mineral-microorganism interactions, especially in mimicking natural systems, are highly required. This review summarizes the influences of various bacteria on the properties of different clay minerals as determined experimentally using viable bacteria.

For a double array of blockwise M-dependent random variables {Xmn,m ≥ 1,n ≥ 1}, ∑i^m=1 ∑^nj=1 strong laws of large numbers are established for double sums ∑m i=1 ∑j^n=1 ij, m≥ 1, n 〉 1. The main results are obtained for （i） random variables {Xmn, m≥ 1, n ≥ 1} being non-identically distributed but satisfy a condition on the summability condition for the moments and （ii） random variables {Xmn, m ≥ 1, n ≥ 1} being stochastically dominated. The result in Case （i） generalizes the main result of M6ricz et al. [J. Theoret. Probab., 21, 660-671 （2008）] from dyadic to arbitrary blocks, whereas the result in Case （ii） extends a result of Gut [Ann. Probab., 6, 469-482 （1978）] to the bockwise M-dependent setting. The sharpness of the results is illustrated by some examples.

Yield Improvement and Advanced Defect Control——Driving Forces for Modeling of Bulk Crystal Growth

Yield improvement and advanced defect control can be identified as the driving forces for modeling of industrial bulk crystal growth. Yield improvement is mainly achieved by upscaling of the whole crystal growth apparatus and increased processing windows with more tolerances for parameter variations. Advanced defect control means on one hand a reduction of the number of deficient crystal defects and on the other hand the formation of beneficial crystal defects with a uniform distribution and well defined concentrations in the whole crystal. This "defect engineering" relates to the whole crystal growth process as well as the following cooling and optional annealing processes, respectively. These topics were illustrated in the paper by examples of modeling and experimental results of bulk growth of silicon (Si), gallium arsenide (GaAs), indium phosphide (InP) and calcium fluoride (CaF2). These examples also involve the state of the art of modeling of the most important melt growth techniques, crystal pulling (Czochralski methods) and vertical gradient freeze (Bridgman-type methods).

Objective of this work was to develop a novel method for characterizing real 3D shapes of particles smaller than 20μm by X-ray microtomography(X-RMT).Multidimensional separation of heterogenous solids through agglomeration in suspension will improve recycling processes as the particle shape and the agglomerate size are used for shape-selective *** the present paper we discuss the fundamentals of X-ray tomography and the experimental setup for selective spherical agglomeration in suspension.A specific preparation method of the particulate sample for X-RMT followed by 3D image processing,are essential for the shape analysis expressed as *** also discuss the limitation of this method due to the so-called Partial Volume Effect and particle clusters in the order of magnitude of X-RMT *** proof of concept,we used a mixture of graphite platelets and spheronized graphite particles for a shape selective-agglomeration in *** remaining fines were analyzed and showed more platelets than in the *** indicates that spheronized particles are preferably bound in the *** findings show that,based on the discussed sample preparation and a 3D image analysis in connection with X-RMT,particle shapes of micronized particles can be discriminated.

Glacial Lakes in the Andes under a Changing Climate:A Review

In this article, we review the current knowledge of the glacial recession and related glacial lake development in the Andes of South America. Since the mid-1980 s, hundreds of glacial lakes either expanded or formed, and predictions show that additional hundreds of lakes will form throughout the 21 st century. However, studies on glacial lakes in the Andes are still relatively rare. Many glacial lakes pose a potential hazard to local communities, but glacial lake outburst floods(GLOFs) are understudied. We provide an overview on hazards from glacial lakes such as GLOFs and water pollution, and their monitoring approaches. In real-time monitoring, the use of unmanned aerial systems(UASs) and early warning systems(EWSs) is still extremely rare in the Andes, but increasingly authorities plan to install mitigation systems to reduce glacial lake risk and protect local communities. In support, we propose an international remote sensing-based observation initiative following the model of, for example, the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space(GLIMS) one, with the headquarters in one of the Andean nations.
