Arecoline causes cognitive impairment and potential addiction via disturbing Kenyon cells in bumblebee brain

Areca nut is the basic ingredient of betel quid， which is chewed by hundreds of millions of people in south-eastern Asia. Chewing of areca nut has been associated with oral cancers potentially due to its specific alkaloids， among which arecoline constitutes about 90% of total fraction. Being the world’s fourth most commonly used psychoactive substance， arecoline evokes stimulation， addiction， and other direct neurological effects， while its misuse correlates to neurotoxic effects. However， what might underlie its neurotoxic mechanisms has been poorly documented. The brain is encoded by a complex network of neuronal and glial cell types， and neurotoxicity of hazardous compounds present transcriptional heterogeneity. Recently， the eusocial bumblebee has been used as a model for studying brain effects， with sophisticated cognitive capability and precisely measured brain architecture. Here， we decipher cell-type-specific mental risks to arecoline using bumblebees. Arecoline induced locomotor hyperactivity and cognitive impairment. Single nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) unearthed arecoline-induced cell-specific responses， primarily targeted on Kenyon cells (KC). Moreover， high-dose arecoline induced distinctive cell responses among KC subtypes， particularly class I large Kenyon cell (lKC)， leading to DNA damage， excitatory/inhibitory (E/I) imbalance， and calcium dyshomeostasis， which potentially resulted in cognitive impairment. Given arecoline’s popularity and growing exposure risks to humans， neurological health risks of areca nut warrant serious consideration.

为了刻画网上拍卖中的投标者到达过程中存在的末尾抢标机制,本文引入时间变量,建立了基于投标者到达的非齐次泊松过程的持久型一口价拍卖模型。通过令投标人与拍卖商的收益最大化,本文分析了投标人的均衡策略,拍卖商的最优一口价以及拍卖平台的最优佣金率,得到拍卖平台为了获取更多的佣金,一口价拍卖中佣金率的设定应小于普通拍卖中的佣金率。通过数值分析得到,投标人应在持续时间较短的一口价拍卖中积极选择一口价,在持续时间较长的一口价拍卖中更倾向于选择进行竞价,而拍卖商应尽可能地设置更长的拍卖持续时间以此获得更大的期望收益。

A microgravity environment has been shown to cause ocular damage and affect visual acuity,but the underlying mechanisms remain ***,we established an animal model of weightlessness via tail suspension to examine the pathological changes and molecular mechanisms of retinal damage under *** 4 weeks of tail suspension,there were no notable alterations in retinal function and morphology,while after 8 weeks of tail suspension,significant reductions in retinal function were observed,and the outer nuclear layer was thinner,with abundant apoptotic *** investigate the mechanism underlying the degenerative changes that occurred in the outer nuclear layer of the retina,proteomics was used to analyze differentially expressed proteins in rat retinas after 8 weeks of tail *** results showed that the expression levels of fibroblast growth factor 2(also known as basic fibroblast growth factor)and glial fibrillary acidic protein,which are closely related to Müller cell activation,were significantly *** addition,Müller cell regeneration and Müller cell gliosis were observed after 4 and 8 weeks,respectively,of simulated *** findings indicate that Müller cells play an important regulatory role in retinal outer nuclear layer degeneration during weightlessness.

A fiber-based,self-aligned dual-beam laser direct writing system with a polarization-engineered depletion beam is designed,constructed,and *** system employs a vortex fiber to generate a donut-shaped,cylindrically polarized depletion beam while simultaneously allowing the fundamental mode excitation beam to pass *** results in a co-axially self-aligned dual-beam source,enhancing stability and mitigating assembly *** size of the central dark spot of the focused cylindrical vector depletion beam can be easily adjusted using a simple polarization rotation *** a depletion wavelength of 532 nm and an excitation wavelength of 800 nm,the dual-beam laser direct writing system has demonstrated a single linewidth of 63 nm and a minimum line spacing of 173 *** optimization of this system may pave the way for practical superresolution photolithography that surpasses the diffraction limit.

An improved interval model updating method via adaptive Kriging models

Interval model updating(Imu)methods have been widely used in uncertain model updating due to their low requirements for sample ***,the surrogate model in Imu methods mostly adopts the one-time construction *** makes the accuracy of the surrogate model highly dependent on the experience of users and affects the accuracy of Imu ***,an improved Imu method via the adaptive Kriging models is *** method transforms the objective function of the Imu problem into two deterministic global optimization problems about the upper bound and the interval diameter through universal grey *** optimization problems are addressed through the adaptive Kriging models and the particle swarm optimization(PSO)method to quantify the uncertain parameters,and the Imu is *** the construction of these adaptive Kriging models,the sample space is gridded according to sensitivity *** sampling is then performed in key subspaces based on the maximum mean square error(MMSE)*** interval division coefficient and random sampling coefficient are adaptively adjusted without human interference until the model meets accuracy *** effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by a numerical example of a three-degree-of-freedom mass-spring system and an experimental example of a butted cylindrical *** results show that the updated results of the interval model are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Photodegradation of xylene isomers:Kinetics,mechanism,secondary pollutant formation potential and health risk evaluation

Photodegradation technology has been widely applied in the purification of industrial aromatic ***,whether this technology efficiently removes the pollutants to prevent secondary pollution and health risk is still ***,the photodegradation processes of three xylenes were compared under designed reaction atmospheres and light *** lamp showed poor photodegradation ability toward xylenes,no matter in N_(2) or N_(2)+O_(2)system,while much higher photodegradation performance of xylenes were obtained under ultraviolet(UV)and vacuum ultraviolet(VUV)irradiation,especially in N_(2)+O_(2)+VUV system,where 97.9%of m-xylene,99.0%of o-xylene or 87.5%of p-xylene with the initial concentration of 860 mg/m^(3) was removed within 240 *** xylenes underwent three processes of photo-isomerization,photodecomposition and photo-oxidation to produce intermediates of aromatics,alkanes and *** them,the photo-isomerization products showed the highest concentration percentage(e.g.,≥50%in o-xylene system),confirming that photo-isomerization reaction was the dominated photodegradation process of ***,these isomerized products not only contributed about 97%and91%to the formation potential of O3(OFP)and secondary organic aerosols(SOAFP),but also displayed obvious non-carcinogenic risk,although one of photodecomposition product—benzene showed the highest occupational exposure ***,the secondary pollution and health risks of photodegradation products of xylenes were non-ignorable,although the OFP,SOAFP and health risks of the generated products reduced at least 4.5 times in comparison with that of the degraded *** findings are helpful for the appropriate application of this technology in the purification of industrial organic waste gas.

An ionic liquid-assisted strategy for enhanced anticorrosion of low-energy PEO coatings on magnesium–lithium alloy

A low-energy plasma electrolytic oxidation(LePEO)technique is developed to simultaneously improve energy efficiency and *** liquids(1-butyl-3-methylimidazole tetrafluoroborate(BmimBF_(4)))as sustainable corrosion inhibitors are chosen to investigate the corrosion inhibition behavior of ionic liquid(ILs)during the LePEO process for LA91 magnesium-lithium(Mg-Li)*** show that the ionic liquid BmimBF_(4)participates in the LePEO coating formation process,causing an increment in coating thickness and surface *** low conductivity of the ionic liquid is responsible for the voltage and breakdown voltage increases during the LePEO with IL process(LePEO-IL).After adding BmimBF_(4),corrosion current density decreases from 1.159×10^(−4)A·cm^(−2)to 8.143×10^(−6)A·cm^(−2).The impedance modulus increases to 1.048×10^(4)·cm^(−2)and neutral salt spray remains intact for 24 *** superior corrosion resistance of the LePEO coating assisted by ionic liquid could be mainly attributed to its compact and thick barrier layer and physical absorption of ionic *** ionic liquid-assisted LePEO technique provides a promising approach to reducing energy consumption and improving film performance.

Mn-doped LiFePO_(4)@C as a high-performance cathode material for lithium-ion batteries

In this work,LiFe_(1-x)MnxPO_(4)@C(x=0,0.01,0.02,0.03)cathode materials were obtained by a simple co-precipitation method and heat treatment,and the influence of Mn-doped modification on the electrochemical performance of LiFePO_(4)@C cathode materials was *** show that by doping an appropriate amount of Mn,the cell volume became larger,and the electronic conductivity increased,which improved the Li+diffusion rate and thus its rate capability and cycle performance of Li-ion *** them,LiFe_(0.98)Mn_(0.02)PO_(4)@C showed superior lithium storage capability;the discharge capacity can reach 150.7 mAh g^(−1)at 0.1 *** cell could discharge up to 155.9 mAh g^(−1)at 1 C under high temperature at 45°C,which was higher than LiFePO_(4)@C(142 mAh g^(−1))under the same test *** discharge capacity of 1 C at room temperature was 139.9 mAh g^(−1),and the cycle stability was 95.9%after 200 *** showed that it had good rate capability and excellent cycle *** results indicate that Mn-doped LFP is a simple and effective strategy for developing high-performance cathode materials.
