Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases have multifaceted nature because of the different factors contributing to their progression. the complex nature of neurodegenerative diseases has developed a pressing need to design multitarget-directed ligands to address the complementary pathways involved in these diseases. the major enzyme targets for development of therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease are cholinesterase and β-secretase enzymes. In this review, we discuss recent advances in profiling single target inhibitors based on these enzymes to multitarget-directed ligands as potential therapeutics for this devastating disease. In addition, therapeutics based on iron chelation strategy are discussed as well.

A new series of benzothiazole Schiff bases 3–29 was synthesized and screened for antitumor activity against cervical cancer（Hela） and kidney fibroblast cancer（COS-7） cell lines. Results indicated that compounds 3, 14, 19, 27 and 28 have promising activity against Hela cell line with IC50 values of 2.41,3.06, 6.46, 2.22 and 6.25 mmol/L, respectively, in comparison to doxorubicin as a reference antitumor agent（IC50 2.05 mmol/L）. In addition, compound 3 displayed excellent activity against COS-7 cell line with IC50 value of 4.31 mmol/L in comparison to doxorubicin（IC50 3.04 mmol/L）. In the present work,structure based pharmacophore mapping, molecular docking, protein-ligand interaction, fingerprints and binding energy calculations were employed in a virtual screening strategy to identify the interaction between the compounds and the active site of the putative target, EGFR tyrosine kinase. Molecular properties, toxicity, drug-likeness, and drug score profiles of compounds 3, 14, 19, 27, 28 and 29 were also assessed.

New series of benzothiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized. the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. Compounds 6j and 6o showed the highest activity against E. coli and S. aureus. the antifungal activity of these compounds was also tested against Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus293. Compounds 4c, 4g and 6j exhibited the highest activity against C. albicans. In addition, compounds4 a and 6j displayed promising activity against A. fumigatus 293. the same compounds were examined for their antiquorum-sensing activity against Chromobacterium violaceum AtCC 12472, whereas compounds4 a, 6j and 6p showed moderate activity. the in vitro cytotoxicity testing of the synthesized compounds was performed against cervical cancer（Hela） and kidney fibroblast cancer（COS-7） cell lines. Results indicated that all tested compounds have IC50 values 〉50 mmol/L against both cell lines. Molecular properties, toxicities, drug-likeness, and drug score profiles of compounds 4a–c, 5a, 6g,h, 6j, 6l, 6o and7 c,d were also assessed.

Photodynamic therapy(PDt)is a non-invasive tumor ablation modality that can be enhanced in combination with concurrent ***,we demonstrated that liposomes containing a bilayer-anchored photosensitizer(porphyrin-phospholipid;PoP)can be loaded with drugs in their aqueous core to improve drug delivery and tumor ablation upon target tissue irradiation with *** the present work,we demonstrate that this concept can be extended to drugs loaded within the hydrophobic bilayer of ***(CtX)is a potent second generation taxane anti-cancer drug that was loaded in the bilayer of liposomes also containing 0.1 molar%PoP,generating CtX-loaded PoP liposomes(CtX-PoP-Lip).CtX-PoP-Lip showed unilamellar vesicle morphology,and exhibited integrity in storage and serum,while maintaining drug stability under laser *** vitro cell killing evaluation showed that red-light laser irradiation induced cytotoxicity in cells incubated with CtX-PoP-Lip,compared to control *** vivo pharmacokinetic analysis revealed that following intravenous administration to mice,CtX and PoP exhibited somewhat altered circulation profiles,suggesting that the CtX may have exchanged with serum factors in ***,when a single treatment of CtX-PoP-Lip with laser irradiation was administered to mice bearing human MIA Paca-2 tumors,tumors were effectively ablated whereas the equivalent chemotherapy and PDt monotherapies were *** results demonstrate the versatility of liposome delivery systems for achieving tumor ablation with chemophototherapy.

Genesis and tectonic Implications of the Kabr El-Bonaya Ultramafic Rocks,Sinai Peninsula,Egypt:Constraints from Mineralogical and Geochemical Characteristics

the Kabr El-Bonaya mafic–ultramafic intrusion is exposed along the southeastern border of the Sinai Peninsula and the northernmost segment of the Arabian-Nubian Shield(ANS).It occurs as an elliptical intrusive body that is located along the major NE–SW trending fracture zones that prevail in the Kid metamorphic *** ultramafic rocks in the complex comprise ultramafic cumulates of peridotites(dunite,harzburgite and wehrlite)and *** rocks are generally unmetamorphosed and have intrusive contacts with the country *** chemistry and whole-rock chemical compositions of these ultramafic rocks are mostly consistent with those of residual mantle peridotites from refractory suprasubduction tectonic *** on the variations of the major elements,the studied ultramafic rocks are consistent with those of a supra-subduction zone mantle,as it seems to have melted at 1–2 GPa and 1300–1450℃.Linear variations of Al2O3,Ca O,V and Ni with Mg O,coupled with incompatible and rare-earth-element depletion and mineral compositions,suggest prior events of partial melting in both wehrlites and *** LREE enrichment in the harzburgite,as well as the development of Cr-rich spinel,is consistent with a history of melt–peridotite *** calculated(Sm/Yb)N variations for the studied peridotites indicate a general increase in the addition of fluids with an increasing degree of melting from the wehrlite(~13–15 wt%of fluid)in the source,after initial spinel peridotite melting to the harzburgite(~20–25 wt%of fluid)in the same source,which is contrary to normal abyssal *** estimated equilibration temperature ranges from 1214 to 1321℃for the studied wehrlites and from 1297 to 1374℃for *** Mg-rich nature of the analysed olivines from the studied ultramafic rocks(Fo=81.41 to 91.77)reflect their primary composition and are similar to olivines in Alaskan-type ultramafic *** Fo content of the analyzed olivines decrease sli

False color Landsat EtM＋（bands 7, 4, 2 in RGB） and SRtM images of the EI-Faiyum depression, Egypt, highlights major NE-SW faults and other lineaments trending NW-SE and N-S. Airborne magnetic data reveal some E-W subsurface faults which are not recognized on Landsat EtM＋ and SRtM images. Ratio images （5/7, 3/1, 4/3） and （5/7, 5/1, 4） were used for lithological discrimination of different rock types. the EI-Faiyum area is occupied by sedimentary rocks of Middle Eocene, Upper Eocene, Oligocene, Lower Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and Holocene. Understanding the structural regime of EI-Faiyum depression in the Western Desert of Egypt is significant in relation to the neotectonics of the Nile Delta and to the development of new communities west of the delta. the area is covered by Late Cretaceous, Middle to Late Eocene deposits, Oligocene deposits （comprising fluviatile sediments and basalt sheets） and Pliocene and Quaternary alluvium and sand deposits. New geological and structural maps were prepared at a scale of 1 ： 100 000 using Landsat EtM＋ and SRtM images coupled with extensive field work. the major structural trends are E-W, ENE, NS and NW--the same trends observed elsewhere in North Africa from NW Sudan to NE Egypt including north and central Sinai. EI-Faiyum depression is a structurally-controlled tectonic basin, marked by northeast-striking faults along its northern margin. these faults are parallel to similar faults of the Syrian arc fold belt, which includes a group of related faults, folds, push-up structures, and basins. Qarun Lake is located in the northern part of EI-Faiyum depression, at a right-step between two strands of the NE striking fault system. We have suggested elsewhere that EI-Faiyum depression is a pull-apart basin related to extension between these mismatched strands of strike-slip faults. the E-W structures are probably related to the relative motion between south Europe and north Egypt and closure of the Neotethys. the continuation of t

High-throughput computational screening for twodimensional magnetic materials based on experimental databases of three-dimensional compounds

We perform a computational screening for two-dimensional(2D)magnetic materials based on experimental bulk compounds present in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database and Crystallography Open Database.A recently proposed geometric descriptor is used to extract materials that are exfoliable into 2D derivatives and we find 85 ferromagnetic and 61 antiferromagnetic materials for which we obtain magnetic exchange and anisotropy parameters using density functional *** the easy-axis ferromagnetic insulators we calculate the Curie temperature based on a fit to classical Monte Carlo simulations of anisotropic Heisenberg *** find good agreement with the experimentally reported Curie temperatures of known 2D ferromagnets and identify 10 potentially exfoliable 2D ferromagnets that have not been reported *** addition,we find 18 easy-axis antiferromagnetic insulators with several compounds exhibiting very strong exchange coupling and magnetic anisotropy.

the present investigation demonstrates the synergistic action of using a sedimentation unit together with Cyperus papyrus(L.)wetland enriched with zeolite mineral in one-year round experiment for treating *** system was designed to support a horizontal surface flow pattern and showed satisfactory removal efficiencies for both physicochemical and bacteriological contaminants within 3 days of residence *** removal efficiencies ranged between 76.3%and 98.8%for total suspended solids,turbidity,iron,biological oxygen demand,and *** bacterial indicators(total and fecal coliforms,as well as fecal streptococci)and the potential pathogens(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)showed removal efficiencies ranged between 96.9%and 99.8%.We expect the system to offer a smart management for every component according to zero waste *** treated effluent was reused to irrigate the landscape of pilot area,and the excess sludge was recycled as fertilizer and soil *** zeolite mineral did not require regeneration for almost 36 weeks of operation,and enhanced the density of shoots(14.11%)and the height of shoots(15.88%).the harvested plant biomass could be a profitable resource for potent antibacterial and antioxidant bioactive *** could certainly offset part of the operation and maintenance costs and optimize the system implementation *** the experiment was designed under local conditions,its results could provide insights to upgrade and optimize the performance of other analogous large-scale constructed wetlands.
