This paper reports on the development of a novel electrochemical assay for cadmium (II) in natural water, which involves the use of disposable hydroxyapatite modified platinum electrode (HAP/Pt). Cadmium (II) was preconcentrated on the surface of the modified electrode and adsorbed onto HAP and oxidized at E = –680 mV. The HAP-modified platinum electrode exhibited superior performance in comparison to the plati- num electrode and surprisingly, yielded a higher electrochemical response. The best defined anodic peak was obtained with 0.2 mol L-1 KNO3 pH 5.0 after 25 min of accumulation time. Using these conditions, the cali- bration plot was linear over the range 1 × 10?8 to 5 × 10?6 mol L-1 Cd2+. The precision was examined by car- rying out eight replicate measurements at a concentration of 2.5 ×10?5 mol L-1;the coefficient of variation was 2.9%. The method was applied to the determination of the analyte in river water samples. The interfere- ence of other metal ions on the voltammetric response of Cd(II) was studied. The HAP films was clearly ob- served in the SEM images and characterized by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and chemical analysis.

With the growing need for renewable energy,wind farms are playing an important role in generating clean power from wind *** best wind turbine architecture in a wind farm has a major influence on the energy extraction *** paper describes a unique strategy for optimizing wind turbine locations on a wind farm that combines the capabilities of particle swarm optimization(PSO)and artificial neural networks(ANNs).The PSO method was used to explore the solution space and develop preliminary turbine layouts,and the ANN model was used to fine-tune the placements based on the predicted energy *** proposed hybrid technique seeks to increase energy output while considering site-specific wind patterns and topographical *** efficacy and superiority of the hybrid PSO-ANN methodology are proved through comprehensive simulations and comparisons with existing approaches,giving exciting prospects for developing more efficient and sustainable wind *** integration of ANNs and PSO in our methodology is of paramount importance because it leverages the complementary strengths of both ***,this novel methodology harnesses historical data through ANNs to identify optimal turbine positions that align with the wind speed and direction and enhance energy extraction efficiency.A notable increase in power generation is observed across various *** percentage increase in the power generation ranged from approximately 7.7%to 11.1%.Owing to its versatility and adaptability to site-specific conditions,the hybrid model offers promising prospects for advancing the field of wind farm layout optimization and contributing to a greener and more sustainable energy future.

Kostmann syndrome, or severe congenital neutropenia, is a rare condition in children marked by a neutrophil count of less than 500/mm3. This congenital agranulocytosis, an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, is often first identified by a neonatal infectious syndrome. The deficiency in neutrophils increases susceptibility to bacterial and fungal infections. Prior to the availability of hematopoietic growth factors, the disease was associated with significant morbidity and early mortality. We present the case of a 17-month-old boy who was admitted to the pediatric emergency department at Hassan II University Hospital in Fes with skin abscesses.

Unraveling the Impact of Direct-Acting Antivirals on Hepatitis-Linked Cirrhosis: A Comprehensive Analysis of Fibrosis, Child Score, and Disease Progression

The treatment of hepatitis C has undergone a significant boom since the advent of direct acting antivirals (DAA). Indeed, the interferon-ribavirin combination that has been used to treat hepatitis C has a virological response in only 45% of cases with significant side effects. The advent of direct-acting antivirals has changed the prognosis of cirrhotic patients with hepatitis C. DAAs have ensured a sustained viral response in the majority of patients. Our work aims to see the evolution of hepatitis C patients at the cirrhosis stage under DAA. We conducted a retrospective study over 15 years (January 2009, January 2024) including all patients with post-viral cirrhosis C, whom we divided into two groups: group A, cirrhotic patients who received ribavirin and interferon, and group B, patients on DAA. From January 2009 to January 2024, we conducted a study of 182 patients with viral hepatitis C, including 102 cirrhotic patients. The mean age was 55 years. 66% of patients were initially treated with the ribavirin interferon combination, while 34% received direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Since the introduction of DAAs, the most commonly used regimens have been sofosbuvir/daclatasvir with or without ribavirin and sofosbuvir/ledipasvir with or without ribavirin. Group A achieved sustained virological response (SVR) in 60% of cases, with notable side effects. In Group B, SVR was 98.18%, with improved tolerability and fewer side effects than previous treatments. Fifteen patients developed hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with a significantly lower mortality rate in those treated with DAAs compared with pegylated dual therapy (p: 0.001).

Dunbar Syndrome and Hypoxic Hepatitis: An Unusual Presentation

Hypoxic hepatitis, also known as ischemic hepatitis, is characterized by acute hepatocellular injury due to inadequate oxygen delivery to the liver. Celiac trunk stenosis can lead to hepatic ischemia and subsequent liver damage. We present the case of an 81-year-old patient with a history of hypertension, ischemic heart disease, hypothyroidism, and biliary lithiasis, who developed hypoxic hepatitis secondary to Dunbar syndrome and a stenosis of the superior mesenteric artery. The patient improved symptoms and liver function tests with conservative management, including intravenous fluids and supportive care. Long-term management involved continued antiplatelet therapy and statins, with consideration of further interventions for celiac trunk stenosis. This case underscores the importance of recognizing Dunbar syndrome as well as superior mesentery trunk stenosis as a potential cause of hypoxic hepatitis. It highlights the need for multidisciplinary management in such cases.

Characterisation of sediments polluted by acid mine drainage in the northeast of Algeria

The present study investigates the composition and the mineralogy of sediments in the Essouk River, located in the Northeast of Algeria in Sidi Kamber mining zone at approximately 2km upstream Guenitra *** mine is abandoned since 1976,but acidic drainage water is still a source of river *** X-Ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) with energy dispersive analyses(EDX),X -Fluorescence analyses and infrared spectroscopy analyses were used to characterize surface sediments sampled at various sites in the area near the mining effluents. The obtained results show that the composition of the sediments is mainly dominated by iron and *** the vicinity of the mine,jarosite and schwertmannite are the essential precipitates. Downstream,sediments are formed by various phases of iron oxyhydroxydes with the presence of adsorbed sulphate.

Genome-wide association studies （GWAS） have successfully identified a substantial number of risk variants for prostate cancer [1-10]. In total, more than 20 single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） that predispose to prostate malignancy have been found scattered throughout the genome in coding and non-coding regions. The 8q24 chromosomal region is an intriguing locus as it harbors five independent susceptibility variants （rs10086908; rs16901979; rs620861; rs6983267; rs1447295） that span a 440-kb genomic interval devoid of genes or protein-coding transcripts.

Amiodarone chlorhydrate is a diiodated benzofuran derivative used to treat cardiac rhythm abnormalities. Hepatotoxicity is a relatively uncommon side effect of amiodarone and symptomatic hepatic dysfunction occurs in less than 1% to 3% of patients taking amiodarone. We report here on an unusual case of amiodarone-induced hepatotoxicity. A 29 year old woman with normal liver function was given amiodarone intravenously to treat her atrial fibrillation. She developed acute toxic hepatitis after 24 h. The intravenous form of amiodarone was immediately avoided and replaced by the oral form, using conventional loading doses as soon as the deranged liver function tests had normalized, without recurrence of the hepatitis. These observations show that the occurrence of acute hepatic impairment with intravenous amiodarone does not necessarily preclude the use of this drug by mouth and the necessity of monitoring the hepatic function of patients treated with amiodarone.

Always fashionable, certification is becoming more and more of a momentum in view of the continuing evolution of the culture of quality in various fields. It has become a safe way for the organization to position itself in the market, meeting the earliest possible customer requirements. Regarding training, certification is a key flagship which enables managers to benefit upstream and downstream of its expected results and planned objectives. More importantly, it is an essential investment for job holding because it permits the evaluation of training and well positioning of the organizers into the market. Moreover, it presents the strengths and weaknesses in order to take corrective and remedial actions. The present project is a throw certification according to the ISO 9001-2000, which may in fact be adopted for all types of training.
