The diffusion coefficient of the minority charge carriers in the base of a silicon solar cell under temperature and subjected to a magnetic field, passes in reso-nance at temperature (Topt). For this same magnetic field, the diffusion coeffi-cient of the photogenerated carriers by a monochromatic light in frequency modulation enters into resonance, at the frequency (ωc). Under this double resonance in temperature and frequency, the diffusion coefficient is used in the expression of the recombination velocity of the minority charge carriers on the back side of the base of the solar cell (n+/p/p+), to obtain, by a graphical method, the optimum thickness. A modeling of the results obtained shows a material saving (Si), in the development of the solar cell.

Introduction: Glomerular filtration is an important elimination pathway for many types of chemotherapy. Accurate estimation of glomerular filtration is essential in the management of children with cancer. Methodology: This was a prospective cross-sectional study of the descriptive type extending over a period of 6 months from July 01 to December 31, 2021 on all children with cancer followed in the pediatric hemato-oncology unit of the HND with a renal, blood and urinary assessment associated with the GFR calculated by the SCHWARTZ formula during the study period. Results: During the study period, we registered 41 new cases of cancer in the pediatric oncology unit. The age group of 0 - 5 years was the most represented, i.e. 65.85% and the average age was 5.6 ± 4 years. The most cited clinical signs were fever ie 56.10% followed by abdominal pain 34.15% and anemia 26.83%. The most represented diagnosis was Burkitt’s Lymphoma, i.e. 26.83% followed by Retinoblastoma 24.39%. Mean serum creatinine was 70.65 ± 68.93 μmol/L. In our series, patients whose normal glomerular filtration rate were more represented, i.e. 70.73% and 29.27% had an abnormal GFR with an average of 87.28 ± 70 mL/min/1.73m2. Proteinuria and leukocyturia were observed in 31.71% and 19.51% respectively. Glycosuria and hematuria with common frequencies of 2.44% of patients. Conclusion: The prevention of renal toxicity of anticancer drugs always involves the precise evaluation of renal function using the Schwartz formula in children. .

The bifacial silicon solar cell, placed at temperature (T) and illuminated from the back side by monochromatic light in frequency modulation (ω), is studied from the frequency dynamic diffusion equation, relative to the density of excess minority carriers in the base. The expressions of the dynamic recombination velocities of the minority carriers on the rear side of the base Sb1(D(ω, T);H) and Sb2(α, D(ω, T);H), are analyzed as a function of the dynamic diffusion coefficient (D(ω, T)), the absorption coefficient (α(λ)) and the thickness of the base (H). Thus their graphic representation makes it possible to go up, to the base optimum thickness (Hopt(ω, T)), for different temperature values and frequency ranges of modulation of monochromatic light, of strong penetration. The base optimum thickness (Hopt(ω, T)) decreases with temperature, regardless of the frequency range and allows the realization of the solar cell with few material (Si).

Background: Although hyperglycaemia is one of the known side effects of L-asparaginase, its contribution to the development of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is less well known in the literature. Asparaginase is an essential component of treatment protocols for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs. On further evaluation, she was found to have high anion gap metabolic acidosis, hyperglycaemia and ketonuria. In recent decades, the use of these chemotherapeutic agents has led to a decrease in mortality and disease-free survival in ALL. L-asparaginase is one of the chemotherapy protocols used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and can induce hyperglycaemia which is aggravated by the concomitant use of corticosteroids. We report the observation of a 14-year-old girl treated with chemotherapy (GFA LAL protocol) who developed transient diabetes following the use of L-asparaginase. She was treated at the Donka paediatric haemato-oncology unit by a multidisciplinary team including a paediatric oncologist, a psychologist and a diabetologist. The aim of this study was to highlight blood glucose monitoring before and after the use of asparaginase in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Conclusion: We conclude that the occurrence of ketoacidosis following the use of asparaginase is a rare event. We recommend close monitoring of blood glucose levels for hyperglycaemia in patients with ALL receiving L-asparaginase.

Background: Over the past two decades, blood transfusion safety has made significant advances in the fight against infectious diseases. However, hepatitis B is still a problem in blood banks due to its high endemicity in Senegal. In this context, we proposed to first determine the prevalence of HBs antigen (HBsAg) in regular and new blood donors. Second, to determine the influence of the number of blood donations on the prevalence of hepatitis B. Materials and Method: We conducted a retrospective transversal study using data from all blood donations received at the Principal Hospital of Dakar Blood bank from July 2007 to December 31, 2021. Hepatitis B testing was carried out with Automaton E411 (Roche Diagnostics). For all donors, information on age, sex, hepatitis B serology, and the number of donations was collected through the lab’s computer system. Data entry and statistical analysis were performed with Epi-info version 7. Results: HBsAg carriers were identified in 4311 primary donors, corresponding to a prevalence of 12.39% (IC 95% = 12.04 - 12.74). The prevalence of the HBsAg antigen was higher in men (12.9%) than in women (6.85%). Men are twice as likely to be infected with HBV as women (OR = 2.00 (IC 95% = 1.85 - 2.17)). The highest prevalence (12.4%) was found in young adults (23 - 29) years old. After 10 donations, the prevalence of the HBs antigen was stable at around 1%. Individuals with a single blood donation and individuals with 2 to 5 blood donations are 9 and 7 times more likely to carry the HBs antigen than regular donors (more than 10 blood donations), respectively. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate the endemic nature of hepatitis B in Senegal. On the other hand, the non-negligible prevalence of the virus in first-time donors reminds us of the need for continuous improvement in donor selection. Background: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of the largest public health problems with nearly 350 million chronic carriers and 500,000 deaths each year. These deaths are most often associated with disease progression to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, which some studies have shown is associated with long-term viral replication in chronic carriers. Viral load quantification, a key element of disease management, is expensive and difficult to access. Viral load plays a crucial role in patient classification and treatment initiation. Four years after the implementation of viral load platform, the objective of this study was to assess viral load profile in HBs chronic carriers in a sub-Saharan Hospital and to determine the potential impact of this distribution on preventive and therapeutic strategies against hepatitis B infection. Materials and Method: The study was carried out between April 2016 and October 2020 in the laboratory of the PRINCIPAL Hospital in Dakar. All patients referred for HBV DNA viral load testing following a positive AgHBs test were included. Incomplete medical records were excluded from the study. Only the first quantification test performed on each patient is recorded. DNA extraction was performed with COBAS AmpliPrep (Roche Molecular Systems, Inc., Branchburg, NJ, USA). Amplification was performed using COBAS TaqMan48 (Roche Molecular Systems, Inc., Branchburg, NJ, USA). Data were collected from the laboratory’s computer system and entered into Microsoft Excel (2007). Statistical analyzes were performed using Epi-Info 7 software. Results: A total of 3002 patients, 76.1% (2285/3002) men and 33.9% (717/3002) women, were included in the study. Young adults were most represented among the subjects (23.2%) and (20.1%) in the age groups 25 - 30 and 30 - 35. The majority (52.7%) of patients had viral loads between 20 and 2000 IU. Introduction: The incidence of acute renal failure (ARF) increases with age. In Senegal, few studies have described the epidemiology of ARF in the elderly. The aim of our study is to establish the epidemiological profile of elderly patients with ARF, identify the causes of ARF in the elderly and assess treatment and prognosis. Methods: We conducted a descriptive and retrospective study over a five-year period from 2011 to 2015 involving patients aged 60 and over, treated for ARI during the study period. Data entry and analysis were done on Epi info 7.3. Results: We included a total of 45 patients. The prevalence of ARF was 3.34%. The mean age was 70.31 years (60 - 83) and the sex ratio was 3.5. Phytotherapy was found in 68.9%, hypertension was found in 68.9%, and diabetes was found in 31.1%. Prostate hypertrophy was found in 53.4% of patients. Pre-renal ARF was the most common (46.6%). Most of the cases, 66.67%, were at Stage 3 of KDIGO. The most common etiologies were respectively tumor (35.5%) and infection (20%). The most common complications were respectively hyperkalemia (33.3%) and hyponatremia (33.3%). Recovery was complete in 62.6% of cases, partial in 37.8% of patients and 13.3% of patients ended up on chronic hemodialysis. Mortality was 4.4%. Conclusion: Herbal medicine, hypertension and diabetes are frequently associated with ARF in the elderly. This justifies increased monitoring of the elderly subject with these conditions in order to subject him to early and appropriate care.

Indications and Results of Lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in a Regional Hospital Center in Senegal

Introduction: Gastrointestinal endoscopy plays a crucial role in the management of gastrointestinal diseases. The aim of this study was to report the indications and results of lower digestive endoscopy in a hospital center in Senegal. Patients and Methods: We conducted a descriptive retrospective study from September 1st, 2017, to September 30, 2018 at the gastrointestinal endoscopy unit of the regional hospital center of Thiès. All patients received for lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and whose reports were usable, were included. In the reports, we collected and analyzed sociodemographic data, indication and results of the endoscopic examination. Results: We included 250 patients. There were 140 men (sex ratio 1.27). The average age was 42 years [range 1 - 92 years]. There were 37 colonoscopies (14.8%), 51 rectosigmoidoscopies (20.4%) and 162 anorectoscopies (64.8%). The patients were from the region of Thiès in 82% of cases. In most cases, they were most often referred by general practitioners (22.8%) and surgeons (20.8%). The main indications were rectal bleeding (36.8%), hemorrhoidal disease (23.2%) and proctalgia (11.6%). Hemorrhoidal disease (63.6%), anal fistula (14%) and tumors (8.8%) were the most common pathologies. Conclusion: Admitted patients at the gastrointestinal endoscopy unit of the regional hospital center of Thiès have many indications as well as pathologies. Anal pathology is dominated by hemorrhoidal disease.

Study of the Variation in Total and Reducing Sugars Contents According to the Variety and According to the Position Where the Fruit (Mango) Was Harvested from Five Mango Varieties Exploited in Senegal

In this study, the results show that total sugar contents depend on the variety and the position where the fruit (mango) has been harvested. This variation in total sugar contents is observed according to the following varieties: the Bk (Boukodiekhal) variety (bottom position 45 mg/100 mL) then Bk (intermediate and bottom position 40 mg/100 mL) and with the Dr (Diourou) variety the content according to the intermediate position is 63 mg/100 mL while the content according to its bottom position is 56 mg/100 mL. The same is observed for variety Knt (Kent). For the variety factor, we see that the Dr and Sl (Sierra Leone) varieties are the richest in total sugars. Compared to the variation in reducing sugar content, the effect of position is less pronounced. Nevertheless, the statistical results show that the contents vary according to the varieties. There is a very significant variation in reducing sugar content between certain varieties. The variety Kt (Keitt) (45 mg/100 mL) is the richest in reducing sugars but compared to the lower position of the variety Bk, they are statistically identical. Variety Knt remains the poorest in reducing sugars 20 mg/ 100 mL.
