How New Individuals Behave in a Heterogeneous Community: A Computational Approach to Norm Assimilation Using Agent-Based Systems

Heterogeneous community entails a number of social groups that adopt similar/different social *** such community,new individuals who join a new social group should be able to decide with which group they could assimilate based on their capabilities/values/***,they would be penalized by other members in the group for violating some norms which they cannot *** this approach,software agents would have better reasoning in simulating human *** this paper,the authors propose a norms assimilation theory,in which a new agent attempts to assimilate with a social group’s *** theory builds an approach to norm assimilation,analyzes the cases for an agent to decide to assimilate with a social group and develops a mathematical model to measure the assimilation cost and the agent’s *** approach is developed based on the agent’s internal belief about its ability and desire,and its external belief about the cost of assimilating with a number of social *** significance of this research is ***,the study paves the way to future design of intelligent systems,i.e.,software agents or robots,to closely mimic human social ***,the norm assimilation using agent-based system could be potentially utilized to simulate some social issues such as immigrants,new students,expatriate *** experiments that have been conducted demonstrate that an agent in the domain is able to calculate the assimilation cost and decide which social group to join.

Security and safety remain paramount concerns for both governments and individuals *** today’s context,the frequency of crimes and terrorist attacks is alarmingly increasing,becoming increasingly intolerable to ***,there is a pressing need for swift identification of potential threats to preemptively alert law enforcement and security forces,thereby preventing potential attacks or violent *** advancements in big data analytics and deep learning have significantly enhanced the capabilities of computer vision in object detection,particularly in identifying *** paper introduces a novel automatic firearm detection surveillance system,utilizing a one-stage detection approach named MARIE(Mechanism for Realtime Identification of Firearms).MARIE incorporates the Single Shot Multibox Detector(SSD)model,which has been specifically optimized to balance the speed-accuracy trade-off critical in firearm detection *** SSD model was further refined by integrating MobileNetV2 and InceptionV2 architectures for superior feature extraction *** experimental results demonstrate that this modified SSD configuration provides highly satisfactory performance,surpassing existing methods trained on the same dataset in terms of the critical speedaccuracy *** these innovations,MARIE sets a new standard in surveillance technology,offering a robust solution to enhance public safety effectively.

Transient elastography compared to liver biopsy and morphometry for predicting fibrosis in pediatric chronic liver disease: Does etiology matter?

AIM: To evaluate transient elastography (TE) as a noninvasive tool in staging liver fibrosis compared with liver biopsy and morphometry in children with different chronic liver ***: A total of 90 children [50 with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV), 20 with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and 20 with Wilson disease] were included in the study and underwent liver stiffness measurement (LSM) using TE. Liver biopsies were evaluated for fibrosis, qualitatively, by Ishak score and quantitatively by fibrosis area fraction (FAF) using digital image analysis (morphometry). LSM was correlated with fibrosis and other studied variables using spearman correlation. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was also performed to examine independent factors associated with LSM. Different cut-off values of LSM were calculated for predicting individual fibrosis stages using receiver-operating characteristic curve. Cut-off values with optimal clinical performance (optimal sensitivity and specificity simultaneously) were ***: The majority of HCV group had minimal activity (80%) and no/mild fibrosis (72%). On the other hand, the majority of AIH group had mild to moderate activity (70%) and moderate to severe fibrosis (95%) and all Wilson disease group had mild to moderate activity (100%) and moderate to severe fibrosis (100%). LSM correlated significantly with both FAF and Ishak scores and the correlation appeared better with the latter (r = 0.839 vs 0.879, P < 0.0001 for both). LSM discriminated individual stages of fibrosis with high performance. Sensitivity ranged from 81.4% to 100% and specificity ranged from 75.0% to 97.2%. When we compared LSM values for the same stage of fibrosis, they varied according to the different etiologies. Higher values were in AIH (16.15 ± 7.23 kPa) compared to Wilson disease (8.30 ± 0.84 kPa) and HCV groups (7.43 ± 1.73 kPa). Catalytic behaviors of Co-Mn/TiO_2 catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of some gold mine tailings in the Eastern Desert of Egypt

The adverse environmental effects of mine tailings disposal on the surrounding ecosystems are world-wide environmental *** to environmental issues related to tailings discharged on land surface,detailed tailings characterization is a prerequisite for a long-term management *** tailings from four gold mines in Egypt,namely Fatira,El Sid,Barramiya,and Atud were investigated for their geochemical-mineralogical features and the effect of weathering behavior on the release of their heavy *** tailings samples were investigated by mineralogical(XRD and ESEM-EDS),physical(grain-size distribution)and geochemical(XRF)*** of the tailings have uniform silt-size with fine to very finesand and *** tailings have coarse to fine *** carbonate,predominantly calcite was found for the samples from Fatira and Atud,calcite-ankerite from El Sid and dolomite from Barramiya with little ***-mean of Cr(569287 mg/kg),Ni(89191 mg/kg)and Co(4221 mg/kg)values are coinciding with the ultramafic nature in Atud and Barramiya *** Sid tailings have a high-mean concentration of Zn(1357 mg/kg)and Pb(1349 mg/kg).Barramiya tailings have a high-mean As concentration(2635 mg/kg).The Fatira tailings are characterized by high-mean values of Sr(444 mg/kg)and Cu(280 mg/kg)arising from auriferous *** Sr concentrations in Fatira tailings are mainly due to its adsorption to iron *** oxidation is conceded along the cracks and/or the edges of the crystals in the El Sid,Barramiya and Atud *** Threshold Effect Level(TEL)values indicated high contamination from heavy elements to the neighboring *** tailings were deposited downstream into the small *** and water erosion can dissolve efflorescent materials enriched in toxic elements like As,Zn,and Pb at tailings *** release of contaminants could be catastrophic for the environment without mine site rehabilitation strategies.
