Risks of suicidality in adult patients with epilepsy

AIm: To determine the prevalence and risks of suicidality in a group of patients with epilepsy. mETHODS: Included were 200 adult patients and 100 matched healthy subjects. The clinical interview using The Diagnostic and Statistical manual of mental Disorders(4th edition), Beck Depression Inventory(2nd edition)(BDI-Ⅱ), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAm-A), Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale(Y-BOCS) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Rating Scale testings were used for diagnosis and assessment of severity of psychiatric symptoms. Blood concentrations of serotonin, catecholamines and dopamine were also ***: Suicidality was reported in 35%(compared to 9% for controls), of them 80%, 72.86%, 55.71% and 52.9% had depression, anxiety, obsession and aggression respectively. Patients with suicidality had higher scores of BDI-Ⅱ(P = 0.0001), HAm-A(P = 0.0001), and Y-BOCS(P = 0.037) and lower scores of psychotic(P = 0.0001) and extroversion(P = 0.025) personality traits. Regardless the presence or absence of suicidality, patients with epilepsy had low serotonin(P = 0.006), noradrenaline(P = 0.019) and adrenaline(P = 0.0001) levels. With suicidality, significant correlations were identified between:(1) age and scores of BDI-Ⅱ(r = 0.235, P = 0.0001) and HAm-A(r = 0.241, P = 0.046);(2) age at onset and concentrations of noradrenaline(r =-0.502, P = 0.024);(3) duration of illness and scores of BDI-Ⅱ(r = 0.247, P = 0.041), Y-BOCS(r = 0.270, P = 0.025) and neurotic personality trait(r =-0.284, P = 0.018); and(4) doses of antiepileptic drugs and scores of psychotic personality traits(r =-0.495, P = 0.006 for carbamazepine; r =-0.508, P = 0.0001 for valproate).CONCLUSION: This is the first study which systematically estimated the prevalence and risks of suicidality in a homogenous group of patients with epilepsy. This study emphasizes the importance of epilepsy itself as a risk for suicidality and not its treatment.

Surgical outcomes of complicated cataract with pediatric trematode granulomatous uveitis

AIm:To describe the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of complicated cataract with pediatric trematodal granulomatous uveitis(TGU).mETHODS:Patients of cataract with TGU in the membranous(inactive) stage underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens(IOL) *** history and ophthalmic examination were conducted for all cases,whereas Schimphlug imaging and corneal topography were done for some *** follow up was done on the 1st,2nd,and 5th postoperative days after ***,it was done at least at one,three,and six months *** and postoperative complications and the methods of their management were ***:Twelve eyes of 12 male children were included in this study ranging from 8 to *** mean best corrected Snellen visual acuity(BCVA) was significantly improved from 0.09±0.06 preoperatively to 0.37±0.11 at the final visit 6mo postoperatively(Pmphlug imaging and corneal topography showed flattening of the anterior surface of the inferior *** difficulties and complications included the poor dilatability of the drown down pupil,strong posterior synechia between the anterior lens capsule and the iris at the site of the inferior retrocorneal vascularized membrane and *** cases underwent primary hydrophobic IOL ***:Surgery for this type of cataract is relatively safe and *** is associated with some specific difficulties and complications that should be considered during surgery and follow up.

Imputing missing values using cumulative linear regression

The concept of missing data is important to apply statistical methods on the dataset. Statisticians and researchers may end up to an inaccurate illation about the data if the missing data are not handled properly. Of late, Python and R provide diverse packages for handling missing data. In this study, an imputation algorithm, cumulative linear regression, is proposed. The proposed algorithm depends on the linear regression technique. It differs from the existing methods, in that it cumulates the imputed variables;those variables will be incorporated in the linear regression equation to filling in the missing values in the next incomplete variable. The author performed a comparative study of the proposed method and those packages. The performance was measured in terms of imputation time, root-mean-square error, mean absolute error, and coefficient of determination (R^2). On analysing on five datasets with different missing values generated from different mechanisms, it was observed that the performances vary depending on the size, missing percentage, and the missingness mechanism. The results showed that the performance of the proposed method is slightly better.

An Integrated Framework for Cloud Service Selection Based on BOm and TOPSIS

many businesses have experienced difficulties in selecting a cloud service provider(CSP)due to the rapid advancement of cloud computing services and the proliferation of *** independent criteria should be considered when evaluating the services provided by different *** is a case of multi-criteria decision-making(mCDm).This paper presents an integrated mCDm cloud service selection framework for determining the most appropriate service provider based on the best only method(BOm)and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS).To obtain the weights of criteria and the relative importance of CSPs based on each criterion,BOm performs pairwise comparisons of criteria and also for alternatives on each criterion,and TOPSIS uses these weights to rank cloud *** evaluation and validation of the proposed framework have been carried out through a use-case model to prove its efficiency and ***,the developed framework was compared with the analytical hierarchical process(AHP),a popular mCDm approach,based on two perspectives:efficiency and *** to the research results,the proposed framework only requires 25%of the comparisons needed for the AHP ***,the proposed framework has a CR of 0%,whereas AHP has 38%.Thus,the proposed framework performs better than AHPwhen it comes to computation complexity and consistency,implying that it is more efficient and trustworthy.

In this paper, we consider the static output feedback （SOF） H∞-synthesis problem posed as a nonlinear semi-definite programming （NSDP） problem. Two numerical algorithms are developed to tackle the NSDP problem by solving the corresponding Karush- Kuhn-Tucker first-order necessary optimality conditions iteratively. Numerical results for various benchmark problems illustrating the performance of the proposed methods are given.

Coupled hydroelastic vibrations of an elliptical cylindrical tank with an elastic bottom

An exact three-dimensional analysis based on the linear potential theory and the elaborated method of eigenfunction expansion in elliptic coordinates are presented to study the free coupled elasto-hyrodynamic characteristics of an upright non-deformable cylindrical container of elliptical planform with a flexible bottom plate, filled to an arbitrary depth with an inviscid incompressible liquid. Extensive numerical data are presented in an orderly fashion for the first few symmetric/anti-symmetric coupled hydroelastic natural frequencies as a function of fluid depth parameter for two plate aspect ratios. Also, selected hydrodynamic and structural deformation modes shapes are presented in graphical form. The effects of liquid level, bottom plate elasticity, and cross sectional aspect ratio on the sloshing frequencies and hydrodynamic pressure modes are examined. The validity of the results is examined through computations using a commercial finite element package as well as by comparison with the data available in literature.

CPU scheduling is the basic task within any time-shared operating *** of the main goals of the researchers interested in CPU scheduling is minimizing time *** between CPU scheduling algorithms is subject to some scheduling criteria(e.g.,turnaround time,waiting time and number of context switches(NCS)).Scheduling policy is divided into preemptive and *** Robin(RR)algorithm is the most common preemptive scheduling algorithm used in the time-shared operating *** this paper,the authors proposed a modified version of the RR algorithm,called dynamic time slice(DTS),to combine the advantageous of the low scheduling overhead of the RR and favor short process for the sake of minimizing time *** process has a weight proportional to the weights of all *** process’s weight determines its time slice within the current *** authors benefit from the clustering technique in grouping the processes that are similar in their attributes(e.g.,CPU service time,weight,allowed time slice(ATS),proportional burst time(PBT)and NCS).Each process in a cluster is assigned the average of the processes’time slices in this cluster.A comparative study of six popular scheduling algorithms and the proposed approach on nine groups of processes vary in their attributes was performed and the evaluation was measured in terms of waiting and turnaround times,and *** experiments showed that the proposed algorithm gives better results.
