Roles of MEM1 in safeguarding Arabidopsis genome against DNA damage, inhibiting ATM/SOG1-mediated DNA damage response,and antagonizing global DNA hypermethylation

Arabidopsis methylation elevated mutant 1(mem1)mutants have elevated levels of global DNA methylation. In this study, such mutant alleles showed increased sensitivity to methyl methanesulfonate(MMS). In mem1 mutants, an assortment of genes engaged in DNA damage response(DDR), especially DNA-repair-associated genes, were largely upregulated without MMS treatment, suggestive of activation of the DDR pathway in them. Following MMS treatment, expression levels of multiple DNArepair-associated genes in mem1 mutants were generally lower than in Col-0 plants, whichaccounted for the MMS-sensitive phenotype of the mem1 mutants. A group of DNA methylation pathway genes were upregulated in mem1 mutants under non-MMS-treated conditions, causing elevated global DNA methylation, especially in RNAdirected DNA methylation(Rd DM)-targeted ***, MEM1 seemed to help ATAXIATElaNGIECTASIA MUTATED(ATM) and/or SUPPRESSOR OF GAMMA RESPONSE 1(SOG1) to fully activate/suppress transcription of a subset of genes regulated simultaneously by MEM1 and ATM and/or SOG1, because expression of such genes decreased/increased consistently in mem1 and atm and/or sog1 mutants, but the decreases/increases in the mem1 mutants were not as dramatic as in the atm and/or sog1 mutants. Thus, our studies reveals roles of MEM1 in safeguarding genome, and interrelationships among DNA damage, activation of DDR, DNA methylation/demethylation, and DNA repair.

Flexible on-chip microsupercapacitors(MSCs)are highly desired for integrated wearable or portable elec-tromics due to their advantages of small size,high power density,easy integration,long lifespan,high security,and *** output voltage of MSCs can be improved by designing MSC arrays,which could further expand their application *** this work,we proposed a facile laser direct cutting method to prepare an on-chip flexible MSC array using TiC,T,MXene as both current collector and electrode *** designed MSC in PVAh2SO4 all-solid-state gel electrolvte exhibits a large volume/areal capacitance of 770.72 F/cm^3(46.24 mF/cm^2)at a scan rate of 20 mV/s,a high energy density of 68.51 mWh/cm^3 at a power density of 6.16 W/cm^3,excellent cveling stability with capacitance retention of 98.50%after 10000 charge/discharge *** MSC also shows superior flexibility and stabilitv even after repetition of charge/discharge cvcles under the convex and concave bending *** *** assembled MSC array(4 in series)provides a high voltage of 3.2 V,which could easily power a purple light-emitting diode more than 10 min,demonstrating its potential application in integrated portable/wearable devices.

The effect of oxidation pretreatment temperature(500 ~ 1 000 ℃) on the catalytic activity of Kovar applied on hydrocarbon CO2reforming was examined. Catalytic performance evaluation using tetradecane at 800 ℃ with 70 μmol/s CO2revealed 700 and 1 000 ℃ as the best pre-oxidation temperature in producing CO and h2,respectively. XRD and SEM-EDX analyses showed that a separate metal oxide layer composed of iron oxide(Fe2O3and F3O4),nickel,cobalt,and possibly their respective oxides started to form when oxidation was conducted at 700 ℃ or *** presence of iron enhanced the stability of nickel in the structure while the compact structure of Fe3O4resulted into the formation of a thick and rigid metal oxide layer on the surface of the Kovar tube. The strong physical bond between the metal oxide layer and Kovar tube provided the catalyst good mechanical strength and consequently good catalytic activity.

The hot corrosion behavior of yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ)powder specimens exposed to Na_(2)SO_(4)/V_(2)O_(5) salts mixtures at high temperature was *** tests were carried out at 1000℃ for 10 h,the salt concentrations varied from 0.1 wt%to 1.00 wt%,and the Na_(2)SO_(4)/V_(2)O_(5) mass ratios were between 0.20 and 0.44 following a factorial design 22.X-ray diffraction(XRD)analyses of the tested samples showed with a confidence of95%that the mixture composed of 32 wt%Na_(2)SO_(4)+68 wt%V_(2)O_(5),and 1.00 wt% salt concentration led to high destabilization of the t’-YSZ phase and formation of YVO_(4) products.A second set of experiments were conducted to assess the influence of temperature on the hot corrosion response of the YSZ in the range between 490 and 1100℃.Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)experiments and Rietveld adjustments of XRD patterns showed that the mass loss of the samples varied with testing temperature and also that the major destabilization of tetragonal phase occurred at 900℃.

The aim of this study is to investigate mechanical and microstructural variations of Ti-6 Al-4 V acquired through various equal channel angular pressing(ECAP)*** ECAP of Ti-6 Al-4 V alloy with the first equiaxed micros tructure was carried out by an isothermal warm and isothermal die *** A pressing carried out on cylindrical samples at 650℃.Mechanical and microstructural investigations were performed concerning Ti-6 Al-4 V in the first state after 2,4,and 8 *** microscopy(OM)investigation shows that alpha grain size increases and beta grain size decreases with the pass numbers *** phase content initially decreases in the first two ECAP *** results show that more equiaxed alpha grains are achieved after four ECAP *** of X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis show that crystallite size decreases with the number of passes *** two ECAP passes,a vivid increase in mechanical strength is observed;however,the increment dramatically slows down by the increasing number of passes.

The aim of this study undertaken at lake Muhazi in Rwanda was to determine and analyze the major elements present in water. The presence of many major elements （Al, As, Ba, C, Ca, Cu, Fe, h^＋, K, Mg, Mn, N, P, S, Si, and Zn） was determined by spectroscopic technique. The concentrations of the elements were measured in water samples taken from three different locations of the lake from May to August 2008. The lake is polluted by water flow from mountain sides surrounding the lake. Other causes of pollution could be the use of agrochemicals in the sugar land, which surrounds the lake, and human activities near the lake. Finally, we proposed the strategies that can be applied in order to ensure good conservation of the environment and to prevent augmentation of heavy materials into the lake.

The 15%(Co-Mn)/TiO2,(Co/Mn=1/6) catalyst was prepared using fusion procedure and studied for the conversion of synthesis gas to C2 ～ 4 *** effects of calcination conditions and operation conditions such as the h 2 / CO molar feed ratio at different temperatures,gas hourly space velocity(GhSV) and total reaction pressure on the catalytic performance of catalyst were *** stability of the catalyst during 150 h at optimal operation conditions(t = 250℃ h2 /CO= 2/1,GhSV=1 500 h-1 and p =0.3 MPa) has been *** is found that this catalyst is high stable for production C2 ～ 4 *** of both precursors and calcined catalysts by powder X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) specific surface area measurement and thermal analysis methods such as thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) show that the different preparation method influences the catalyst precursor structure and morphology.

Can harvest outsourcing services reduce field harvest losses of rice in China?

The purpose of this study is to quantify the rice harvest losses in China and to evaluate the impacts of machinery and harvest outsourcing services on these losses,given the background of high-speed mechanization and outsourcing *** were collected from a national survey conducted in 2016 by the research team in conjunction with the Research Center for the Rural Economy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.A non-parametric method was used to test whether combine harvesting and outsourcing services could significantly reduce harvest ***,quantile regression was used to estimate the real effects of machinery and outsourcing services on harvest *** analysis yielded four main study ***,the harvest loss rate of rice in China was 3.65%.Second,mechanical reaping and winnowing caused greater losses than manual methods,while the opposite was true of field ***,combine harvesting increased the ***,the effects of an outsourcing service on losses differed among the different harvesting *** services increased losses in segmented harvesting but they reduced losses in combine harvesting.

ndividuals that inhabit broad elevational ranges may experience unique environmental *** temperature decreases with increased elevation,the ectotherms living at high elevations have to manage limited activity time and high thermoregulatory *** resting metabolic rate(RMR)of a postabsorptive animal is related to its total energy requirements as well as many other fitness *** lizards(Sceloporus grammicus)living on la Malinche Volcano,Mexico,inhabit a wide elevational range with some populations apparently thriving above the tree *** measured the RMR of lizards from different elevations(i.e.,2,600,3,200,and 4,100 m)at four ecologically relevant temperatures(i.e.,15,25,30,and 35°C)and found that RMR of mesquite lizards increased with temperature and body *** importantly,lizards from the high-elevation population had mass specific RMR that was higher at all *** the higher RMRs of high-elevation populations imply higher metabolic costs at a given temperature these lizards were also *** of these traits may allow these high elevation populations to thrive in the face of the thermal challenges imposed by their environment.
